  • Recconnecting with my childhood pastime of sculpting animals, & this time I'm sculpting an Okapi from Milliput epoxy putty and painting it in acrylics and oil paint. I really love how this Milliput sculpture turned out and I hope you enjoy watching the process and hearing the story of teaching myself to create an original Okapi model!
    ✨IN THIS VIDEO I SHARE:
    ○ Making a sculpture from scratch, starting with a wire armature
    ○ How I work with turqouise Milliput epoxy putty for miniature animals
    ○ My struggles with animal sculpture & the helpful tips I've learned
    ○ How I balance realism sculpture & perfectionism
    ○ Acrylic painting with only a brush & how I paint oils on a miniature model
    ○ And a little bit about my journey as a life-long artist!
    I publish videos once a month sharing my adventures in creating horse and animal art in my free time for my own enjoyment, like sculpture, painting, printmaking and more. If you enjoy watching the adventures of an artist making things by hand, and sometimes learning something new, I’d love to show you what I make next!

    This was awesome with the easy to understand steps. Even as a beginner I was able to follow along. Great video.

    I usually sculpt in a much smaller scale for miniatures, but there are lots of great tips here that transfer to that medium! You captured one of my favorite animals so well but more importantly made the process look fun and approachable

      It’s surprisingly swappable! I’ve learned a lot from watching miniature sculptors and painters for different game pieces that work pretty well for animal sculptures too. So I’m happy to hear I was able to give back! 😊 And yay for more Okapi lovers!!!

    Oh I love okapi! ❤ I was once able to pet one and their fur is by far the softest thing I have ever touched! It's insane... And this sculpture is amazing! Thank you so much for taking us along the journey! 🙏

    You're using white milliput i see. Have you ever used the standard one?

    • @CreativeKristenTaylor
      @CreativeKristenTaylor  Рік тому

      I have! I like standard as it has a nice all-around consistency. It has some of the softness and tack of Milliput white making it nice for details like fine hair, and has enough body to it that it works a little nicer for muscles and blends a little easier into plastic models. I used standard Milliput to customize a plastic model in this video: ua-cam.com/video/AVFJp4cR1Kc/v-deo.html

    Is the miliput super tacky like apoxie when wet?

    • @CreativeKristenTaylor
      @CreativeKristenTaylor  Рік тому

      It really depends on the colors. I found Aves white and Milliput white comparably tacky. Milliput standard and terracotta less so. Aves in natural color even less tacky. I’ve found freshness is also a factor (the older they get, the firmer and less tacky they get).
