- Liver fluke continues to be a problem for many sheep and cattle farmers across the UK. Livestock become infected by eating grass contaminated with fluke cysts shed from mud snails found in damp, marshy areas of pasture. Infection is very common and even low levels can lead to serious losses in production.

Does this infect other animals besides beef and lamb?
Is this pasted on if you eat an animal infected with fluke?
Liver fluke specifically affects the liver in ruminants. Due to the strict meat inspection requirements at the abattoir, a flukey liver would be noticed at the time of slaughter, it would be removed and condemned. It would not be present in the meat.
@@AHDBBeefandLamb Would they still process the meat for other animals like cat and dog food and if so can it be passed on to them?
@@ForTheSakeOfAnimal If there is evidence of fluke then the liver is condemned to category 3 material which is suitable for pet food - the fluke would most likely die without the host liver being alive and a lot of pet food is treated (cooked, preserved) and so would kill any potential.
@@AHDBBeefandLamb One time I vomited up a sink full of these things as well as a whole slew of other strange looking creatures after a cycle of praziquantel.I intentionally put a screen in the sink so i could see what was coming out , sounds gross but I wanted to know.
