Most demos on this amp just show the stock 4 voicings ( fender, park, vox, and mesa ) which are great, but with the DT Customiser app and midi link you can change this amp to any 8 voicings you like with or without cab voicings. I'm really surprised this info isn't advertised better, and most line 6 retailers arent even aware, because I can get an incredible array of quality guitar tones with this head. For quality and flexibility this amp is amazingly good. Better than this demo shows.
I suspect that Line6 would rather you buy the POD HD X models to do this function and not free software. That was the only time I have seen them advertise this features was when combined with the HD500X/Dream Rig.
The DT Editor app is not made by line 6 (and also it's only available for windows). Line 6 SHOULD have done such an app when they put out firmware 2.0, but as said, they want you to buy the whole rig.
I own 2 DY 50s one is a head ano one is a boat anchor about 90 pounds or moew , Im 70 years old and habe had every kubd if amo you can play through, I have no idea why the DT series lost irs oioularity. I picked up a second hand Line6 HD100 and run a Pod HD500 straight into the power amp. Same set of amp models in the DT as the HD. Sounds pretty good. The modelling on the HD is a bit crappy (2009 technology) but the HD500 is much improved.
Sorry I haven't got the DT25 anymore as I have moved over to a Kemper. It was an annoying process to bios the tubes due to the placement of the measurement points and the pots as you state. I think if I remember rightly I had to unscrew the main unit from the wood chassis and pull it out a bit and then try and hold the multi-meter on the points with great difficulty. Sorry, I can't be much more help.
Wow thanks for the reply man. Thia is the first I have heard about being able to use more than the 4 voicings that is comes with. So, correct me if im wrong, but it's basically like having the pod hd built in, minus all of the effects right? I like to use stompbox effects anyways, so this is great news. Although the amps sound great in your video, how would ypu rate them in person? I realize theyre not the real thing, but I just play for my own enjoyment, so I imagine theyll suffice. Ive never owned a tube amp before, and I really want one. It has that real tube amp feel right? Its gonna take me a long time to save up enough money for this, so I want to make a good decision, you know? Im gonna build my own speaker cabinet to aave money, as I am a finish Carpenter by trade. Which speaker configuration would you suggest? 1x12? 2x12? 4x12? And which speakers? Ive been plating for almost 20 years, and have had struggles with addiction, but I just made one year clean from drugs and alcohol, and playing guitar helps keep me busy in my down time. Anyways, thanks again for your reply and any help you can give
I have this amp and didn't know about this. I love my amp it has tubes and a bit of modeling. U can't tell the difference between this and my all tube amps. Btw on some settings when u lower it to ten watts it's all modeling it actually feels more springy and spongey which I like. Get the 25 watts though the other post is right the 50 I returned I'm a home guitarist it was way too loud. And didn't distort as much as this one. It's got lots of things on there to tweak. It's great if it breaks I would get another. I use a lot of distortion pedals thru the fender setting and the vox setting. I also have the hd300.
Yeah man, (grin), but seriously, it was never really marketed correctly, this is NOT a DIGITAL PRE or POWER AMP, it is analog capable of numerous possibilities its only when you addd the POD floor Model HD 500( or 500X), that you into any digital and it’s one of the best, and it won’t be long until we can get the sample rate so small that it will nearly be like Analog. Speaking of which, the UAD systems plug ins REALLY ARE SOME OF THE BEST. I also Groove tube solo 150, you could change 12x’s, and you could change from 6L6 to El34 and with American 1950 coke bottles, the amp was so precise, you could get many sounds just with knobs, pick ups (position), but this was a steal. Aspen Pittman also asked if I would like a JOB as HEAD of Q.A., as I called and told him, I loss a glassy sound, he told me to come by on a Saturday (Sylmar?), and he and another employee opened the warehouse/factory for me, they went through 7 or so VERY HEAVY 150 watt amps and could not hear anything different. I said, ok, well, if I reLLLY FEEL LIKE ITS NOT WORKING OUT, I’LL LET YOU KNOW, ASPEN SAID, “WAIT, YOU KNOW Murphy’s Law, so they got one more, the second I hit a few power chords, they both heard it, a .10 cent capacitor blew on all of them, was offered a job on the spot, should have taken it, we would have GROOVE TUBES and LICENSE to FENDER so basically, it was a $2500 amp and have great ears, and knew this was something great but it was never pushed nor promoted the correct way, So that said, the 25 is loud, it even has a cit off switch! But the 25 uses EL84, what a VOX uses so you can really dial in that tone and its much easier to get a Marshall/Fender/VOX (for sure), than the 50, the 50 is rally for the Marshall only, so get a Marshall, You want a LOT OF VARIETY, the 25 and some stage mics and your set. Also, FWIW (again), first job, pushing carriages at a large grocery store in Boston to scoring trailer on a MAUDIO 2496, got paid $15,000, so it is all about ears and knowing your tools well, now I am past that point, have several CD out, score trailers, working on a project that when I saw Ringo Starr at the Hollywood Bowl, I was going to by this set of drum sticks, the medallion Ringo wore, the CD and his signature all enclosed in a really nice case. The woman assured me it would be there as it was there all week. After the show, I get a few things, then ask, how can I pay for...someone else was picking it up and missed it by 00:05. Was super bummed, then this guy comes over and says, are you the dude that works at Capitol, well, here is my card, call me, I’ll have Ringo make something special for you, a one of a kind. Then I told him about this concept I was working on, he then said, WOW, REALLY NOW, ok, well get me a few tracks when your done, if it what I think it is, Ringo might be interested! Thanks I said! (ON THE INSIDE, I WAS LIKE HOLY CRAP, WOW, WOW, I CAN’T BELIEVE IT, CAN YOU IMAGINE), I felt like 5 yrs. old Christmas/Beginning of Hanukkah. SO anything is possible, you have to NEVER EVER EVER EVER give up. EVER! On your grave stone if anyone reading this does not make it, your stone should read, “He Never Gave Up, He Never Gave In, He died still trying or something like that. Ladies, He also refers to you too. No, not even close and very surprised given the price that this amp was at hardly any guitar centers and the promotional campaign was horrible - never saw an ad or a thing for it when it is one of the best 4 channel amps (TUBE) around, this is not even close to a pod or even the old bogner /line 6 black face. I have exceptional ears, so much so that Aspen Pittman, inventor/creator of Groove Tubes offered me a job on the spot as Q.A. MANAGER as I had one of his $2500 tube guitar heads when I first moved to Hollywood and never should have sold but after getting it, a few weeks went by and to my ears, was missing a bell like shimmering sound. Aspen opened his shop for me (I was working at Capitol Records), gave me the tour and then had his associate grab a matching head, just like mine, same sound. Aspen did not hear the missing element. This went on for almost 45 minutes and I decided to let things be and he insisted, just one more AMPLIFIER, as now I thought (but knew I was correct deep down), I was the one losing my mind. Anyway, the 25DT head and combo is LOUD and can go 16/8 ohms (NEVER TURN ON A AMP HEAD WITHOUT IT BEING CONNECTED WITH CABINET AND CABINET WIRE, looks like a regular electric instrument plug, but is not. Anyway, the DT25 uses EL84 (ALSO USED IN VOX) and the DT50 head and combo use EL34's found in Marshall. (AGAIN, LINE 6, YOU HAVE a one year HIT ON YOUR HANDS and YOUR PROMOTIONAL TEAM SHOULD BE FIRED! Thanks, needed to get that off my chest. Go to the Line 6 forums and you will see many with the 50 asking, pleading, begging how to get the VOX sound, well you really can't, not as well as you can with the 25, whereas with the AB/A, pentode/Triode switches, get the Marhall, Park,Fender (America;s Vox if you will as Mesa is USA's Marshall), as the 25's are easier to drive, push, distort, There is no binary here guys and gals and the BEAUTY is, I got it for 33% off, (Pro Account), cost for combo for G.C. is ~$694, friends at G.C. One guy I was about to work with, training (Music Supervision), had just gotten here when in less than a month, was playing some Jack Blacks stuff, Jack walks in, he taunt his son for a few sessions, then got a gig in a band opening for Bon Jovi - but he''ll be back. Lastly, to get POD FX, I recommend the 500 Foot pedal or the new 500X, otherwise you have an amp that has 4 MAJOR sounds in it - all tube, Mesa Boogie, Marshall/Park, Fender and VOX, add one of their guitars and you can get a tele to LES PAUL sound plus acoustic, aren't tried yet but the amp, a good cab (also changes sound, greenbacks by celestion are great for early breaking up, whereas V30's are going to give you a Thunderous sound to clean as a bell. Greenbacks, think mid Rolling Stones distortion, but again, adding a HD 500/x you can get a lot more, how in their guitar (LINE 6) and you can get a RICKENBACKER, plus what is so great about the community is, say you want, the Beatles "IF YOUR BIRD CAN SING", someone will have that patch. You download and add it, simple as that, although I would rather have the Ricky 320, what Lennon played early, and eli was 100% different back then, quality was much higher. HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE - and again, I CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHY THEY DIDn'T PUSH THIS AMP as its a great studio amp (and live-the 25 is so loud it has a 50% cut off so you can et those great tones at low volume, like a plate. Cheers, must get going!!! Frankii
GET the 25, uses EL84 found in VOX and easy to push and over drive unlike the EL34's found in the 50 watt, you will never get a vox sound, if you don;t need Vox, then don't get but I would still get it as I have tried so many marshalls ((I KID THEE NOT )) where channel 2 is actually channel one turned all the way up, or a continuation of one, only the 3 channels heads are worth their salt but there is no MESA REC sound that youg et on this, and the 25 is so loud is has a cutoff switch, so you can crank and get the OD harmonics. Sill, the Marketing people really made a mess with this - hardly anyone knows about it, it blows the other Bogner/Line 6 (BLACK) out of the water and only becomes digital when you add the HD foot pedals, get their guitars and Its really close to a tele, Les Paul (on the heavier ones), acoustic, GIBSON SG and everything in between - -I think they call it the dream rig - plus there is an AB/A, a pentode/triode, 50% volume cuts, balance out to board out, loop FX chain and the reverb is really, really good. This is like having a FENDER TONEMASTER $1500-$2000, a GREAT 3 channel Marshall/Park amp, Mesa Boogies, and VOX all in one, only thing is it does make a bit of a noise when switching which you don't notice when playing live anyway. Will try and post mine later. GC cost is $624 or so, so they should give it to you at a good price, besides, they have to make up the commissions anyway - -really hard to do for some!
So, all of these sounds are available within the amp head? And you use the computer to dial them in? Are they adjustable once you unplug the computer? What is a midi controller? How easy is it to access these amp models? Sorry for all the questions, im just really interested in this amp and theres a lot I want to know. Thanks so much
I don't get it yet. How all tube is it? How digital is it?? I know it has 2 pre-tubes and 2 power-tubes, but the model amps is digital, right?? So is like put a POD into a tube power?? Thanks for the video, nice job
roberto moya Sorry I can't claim to know exactly how it works, but from my understanding of it is. It uses some digital pre-amp modelling which is then passed through a single pre-amp tube, it then goes through two power tubes. The pre-amp tube adds some warmth and colour to the sound while the power-amp tubes add more tube distortion and volume. If you place the amp in Low Power Mode then I believe it becomes almost totally digital but maybe with a little warmth from the tubes but no power. On top of this there is also switching between different classes and other features to do with the configuration of the Tubes and wiring. There is some better explanations on this site and maybe some of the other links they refer to. line6.com/support/page/kb/_/amplifiers/dt50dt25/dt50dt25-faq-r144 Trust me the tubes do have a big impact because swapping the tubes for different brands does make a difference to the sound and when a tube starts to go you will know it as the amp becomes useless. Unless of course you switch it to low power mode. It is like most tube amps though and they need to be driven to get the effect of the tubes. So if you are in a small space don't get the DT50 as the DT25 is still extremely loud for home use. Hope this helps a little.
That 12ax7 in there isnt a preamp tube, it's some kinda inverter thingy, that is part of the power amp. IOW, it's not a tube preamp, its a digital preamp.

There is some better explanations on this site and maybe some of the other links they refer to. line6.com/support/page/kb/_/amplifiers/dt50dt25/dt50dt25-faq-r144
Trust me the tubes do have a big impact because swapping the tubes for different brands does make a difference to the sound and when a tube starts to go you will know it as the amp becomes useless.
IOW, it's not a tube preamp, its a digital preamp.
i am between dt25 and the orange th30h what it your opinion??
*****
ok !! thanks !! ;)
Panos Gouse But in any case, try both!
Dt 25 of course, it is more versatile, sounds good enough and is fun to play.
Orange is good but is a matter of taste but for me Line 6 DT 25.
