For my money, this is *the* single best work on Thor to this day. Hard to believe that at first I didn't like Simonson's art when I bought and read the first issue he started with (#337), but I must say it grew on me, and quickly became one of my all-time favorites. Now I look at this beautiful art and wonder how I was not immediately keen on it. I think it was mainly because of how much it contrasted with the previous work on the character which had created a certain impression of the character in my mind. In hindsight, Simonson's version is just more powerful, more epic, and more regal in the end. My all-time favorite for sure. Thanks for the review.
I read metal men comics as kid... so many that even though I was too young to care about the artist, by 1985 when I 1st encountered Simonsons Thor I immediately recognized his art from Metal Men.. Phenomenal!❤
The best Thor run of all. I remember i would look forward to Simonson's Thor every month back in the 1980's. I normaly re-read this run after every few years, that's how good it is.
I'm comparing the original colours with the colours I see in this review, and being someone that has been into comics since 2010s and not really read anything much earlier than late 90s, these colours look tonnes better than the original.
I'm divided on the re-coloring of Walt Simonson's run. It's good, but I still prefer the original. What I really don't like is how the cover pages are missing the logo. I mean, c'mon, part of what makes the cover of #337 so memorable is Beta Ray Bill *smashing* the old logo.
I do like the colours in this book, I think it all suits the artwork well but it's still strange in a way that it was recoloured at all. I agree about the 337 cover though, I do like a good 'series title logo being broken by a character' cover!
If u do a giveaway of this pls consider me 🥺 ! Such comics are impossible to find in Mumbai, India :( . I just wish Marvel printed & distributed these epic runs in India coz I know there is a huge demand for this !

@@Wildjason888 I never knew Simonson even worked on a comic called "Metal Men". Now I need to go find those! Thanks for your message.

Yeah great news about that, as far as I'm concerned this book should barely ever be out of print
Lovely book 😮

I always liked the colours in this one but I do get why people prefer the original look
Amusingly, you turned the page on Clark Kent’s appearance just before you mentioned that he appeared “somewhere”.

I hate that they recolored the art. Definitely an adjustment. But the story is still amazing.

That's really unfortunate, sorry to hear it's so hard to find these books over there, hopefully that changes at some point
