Finally it's here! All we need now is a reprint of Iron Man by David Michelinie and I/we will have some of the most iconic runs of all the major Marvel characters (patiently waiting for Mark Gruenwald's Captain America omnibus.) I cannot wait! Also I must say Omar, I LOVE when I see the video length on an overview and it breaks the 25 minute mark because that means we're getting passionate Omar and he's the best! If I wasn't already planning to buy this book then you absolutely would have sold it to me! Wow that was an amazing overview! And please Omar, please please do more of the "post-credit" spoiler sections. I've been wanting you to do that for a long time! But excellent work here my dude. You did a great job explaining and selling the brilliance of this run!👏🏾👏🏾
Can't believe the Iron Man Omnibus hasn't been reprinted...probably my most wanted reprint because I was broke as hell when that came out and love what I've read of that run.

@@nivekleveb8872 Same. I haven't read either of those runs in full. I've read some of Michelinie's run (Demon in a Bottle) but none of Denny O' Neil's. I'd very much like to though and hopefully will one day give the Ol' Shellhead (the various creators) his due.

I can hear the excitement so clearly through your voice in this video bro and I LOVE IT ! Makes me even more excited about the book watching you talk about it. This run is legendary. And I love the recoloring. Thor has definitely received alot love in the omnibus format world.
I will stick to the original coloring. Wish essentials made it this far, Simonson's Essential X-Factor in black and white is beautiful and Vol. 1 includes a couple these Thor's issues with art by Sal Buscema.
That has to be one of the hardest arguments we have in our community. It's at least in the worst 10. I like the new artwork. I don't mind if they change it, but I would be seriously mad if they changed something like that and I grew up with it. The other side of the coin, I might end up liking it a lil more. Or, possibly hating it. I guess i'll have to see what I think about it.

What a time to read Marvel comics. Frank Miller. John Byrne. Walt and Louise. Chris Clairmont. Roger Stern. Our Pal Sal from the Bronze Age was in there too!. This Omnibus is perfect for those readers of the new Thor runs (Aaron, Fraction, Jurgens et al) as they are going to love this volume.
I was lucky enough to grab a copy of the last printing, right around the time it was getting hard to find in late 2020, early 2021. I didn't even realize it had a direct market variant, let alone a different cover for the previous printing.
Believe it or not, before I discovered Jack Kirby 's Thor, I got into Walt Simonson's take on the character! Awesome stuff! Of course I still love The King's Thor, too!
I picked up #337 at my childhood LCS and was in shock when 11 year old me read it! Still my favorite single issue of all time. I have the 2nd printing of this omni so I'm good but I would highly recommend this omni for anyone who will give this run a shot. Simonson's run is my Thor and no one else has really come close.
My first copies of this and the original FM Daredevil still want to close over on me! Very tempted to double dip on this latest printing. I’ve always loved Walt Simonson’s artwork. Thanks Omar!
Best run ever for Marvel! Art, story all top notch. Read these as they came out every month. The issue with the midguard serpent hooked me on comics. Don't forget the Kermitesque issues lol. Genius!
Yeah... I'm taking that off my wishlist after seeing those computer colors. I already have the 4 paperback volumes with the older water colors. All this shading takes away from the art. Makes everything look too dark.

I've been holding out since 2011 for a version with the original colors 😂 I'm assuming this is what Walt wanted...for it to look like a 1992 Image Comic. I say that with all due respect and someone who ate that stuff up when I was a kid, but I think that type of coloring looks tacky and ugly now.
No offense Omar, I love the Waid, and Wieringo run on FF. But you’re telling me as I know you were old enough to read the Byrne FF run from the back issue bins a few decades ago, but really? Waid, Wieringo over Byrne? Wow! Those are almost fighting words! Okay maybe not. But I will go back and watch the last Video covering the Waid, Wieringo run, cause I’m curious as to your reasoning. Just yours. When you said that it surprised me. Also… our Pal Sal really did his career defining work in my eyes. People always complained about his work endlessly when I bought this off the rack. But I defied anyone at the time to really tell me how Sal’s artwork looked that much different. His artwork really surprised me how well it lent itself to a fantasy setting, something his brother rather excelled at…
It’s all subjective. It was a time I had lost interest in comics and this run gave me hope. At times I was a bigger fan of Defalco’s run over Byrne’s. But both are up there for me too.
Thank you for doing this review. This is my all time favorite comic book run and made Thor my all time favorite comic book character. I can’t wait to get the omnibus for this. I’ve been waiting for years to get my hands on it. I’ve must’ve reread my trades a thousand times to the point where you can tell they’ve been loved 😂
Want this because of how it's slimmer but I prefer every single thing about the OG printing. As far as the colours go, the new ones are better and not only that but it will get younger people into it because of that more realistic aesthetic it offers.
Not sure whether gradients everywhere equals more realistic. Especially with faces where flat shading helps imagine the rest. If I think what John Byrne and Terry Austin could do with flat shading...
I literally just preordered this omni as the video came out 😂. Also I second a Deluxe edition of Simonson's Ragnarok series, I am still waiting for the next trade.
How many printings does this make? It's a testament to Simonson's Thor era that it was, I think, the FIRST Marvel Omnibus of it's kind and it's been reprinted at least twice since.
so f**king unfair that if we want this in an omni we have to have this recolored version..yeah the mmw are coming but they arent oversized...and to get the og version in omni we gotta wait another 10 yrs til the mmw are released?? how many of us will still be around to purchase that in 10 yrs....they should have released an og colors omni along with this...give us the option
Personally I prefer original colors, but these new colors by Steve Oliff look real classy. He's a true master. I Imagine the new colors might be better for younger readers more used to modern books/coloring.
Great review! The new coloring grew on me. It certainly looks better on the glossy paper. I still have some of the floppies to look back on the old coloring which looks better in newsprint. Same! I get goosebumps reading THAT scene.
These comics are must own, but I collect physical comics for the nostalgia hit, so the recoloring makes this one a hard pass for me. I wish we had the option to buy the original colors. I guess I'll be sticking with my old trades.
The only reason I have this book is in honor of the legendary Jon Schneep. He praised this book over and over so I finally had to check it out and he was right.

That computer coloring is just as amazing as the CGI Enterprise of Startrek. Give me the original anyday. They didn't even keep the color choices. Clarks suit was blue... The problem with the "gradients everywhere"-style: gradients describe shapes. And usually not the shapes suggested by the line art. Flat shading lets the mind fill in the blanks. Gradients, done hastily, ruin the shape. Simonson's run is, as far as I can tell, pretty much impossible to beat. And as much as I like Buscema's Hulk, I really wish Simonson had stayed. Imagine if he had done Lord of the Rings...
I'm gonna be honest I feel like the recolor argument is so heavily based in nostalgia to the point of being unproductive. As someone who wasn't alive when this run was coming out, I still think this art looks amazing. I dont know what the original colors looked liked, but to me this still looks damn good.
I wish I would have watched this video 2 weeks ago - I would have cancelled my pre-order. I expected to normal high contrast omnibus coloring, but the re-coloring and excess highlight/shadows are just muddy and don’t work with the lines of the original art. So disappointed.
Im happy to have this coming. Im VERY behind on Thor. I only know him from Jason Aaron's run, so I think I will pick this up. Don't judge me, I promise I'll get there. Lol.

Often they shove garish digital colours and backgrounds over old art in a desperate attempt to make it look modern. This for the most part just feels like a wider spectrum being available to the colorist.
I debated getting this for months since it was announced, but Im passing on it simply because the material is just too old. I really only buy stuff with material from 1990-present day so this just makes no sense for me to buy. Happy for whoever decides to pick it up though!
both covers were also used from the previous printings. I'm glad they didn't change it (unlike Miller DD 1 reprint 3 standard var). I am annoyed that they changed the spine for this one though

I can understand some ppl like new coloring, but its always a deal breaker for me. The modern coloring always feels less stylized and enjoyable to me

Marvel ruined the original artwork by updating it like this. All current comics look like CGI trash. We don’t want the classics to look this way too.
Have to agree. It makes the art look so generic compared to how it looks in black and white or with the flat colors.
They are doing the first Simonson MMW soon.
