How to Make a Sand Scoop for Beach Hunting With a Metal Detector
Вставка

- I had the opportunity to hunt the beach in Daytona Florida. Since I only go to Florida every other year or so, I couldn't justify spending Fifty to Eighty dollars for a sand scoop. I had a piece of six inch PVC and I purchased a cap for just under seven dollars after tax. Here's the scoop I came up with.

+Günter Schöne Thabk you Günter.

Bob
I called that a mule shoe cut.Back when I worked offshore.
Cool, I never heard it called that before.
Sorry Bob,just catching up on all your older videos, have to say this was a funny build-couldnt stop laughing! Just what i needed 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
LOL,
I look back at this one and ask myself, Why????
I love your videos!! They are so user friendly and have such a warm and inviting atmosphere to them. Keep it up Bro!
Thank you, I really appreciate your comment.Regards,Bob
If you use a cutting disc in a grinder to cut with it gets a bit dusty but will cut in no tme
Thank you John.
Regards,
Bob
good job
Thank you Bobby.
Regards,
Bob
Nice job , hopefully we'll get to see some footage of it in action . Take care.
I only used it a couple of times then gave it to another detectorist on the beach. He taught me to feather the sand to work out the target and it worked much better for me.regards,Bob
Great video. I've done some too but not in a real long time. I like the scoop. Maybe I carry my metal detector when I go surf fishing in Charleston on Folly beach.
+Spencer Brown Didn't know you were a dirt fisherman.
Regards,
Bob
Great project Bob hope you struck gold with your sand scoop. I have been metal detecting for about 9 years now and have had some great finds.
My only gold find is a 1867 Queen Victoria half sovereign. would like to see a video of your days detecting.
All the best
Tony
Wow Tony, We share a lot of the same hobbies, I wish we lived a little closer. I haven't struck it rich yet but I'm still trying. I plan to film and post some future hunts. I did take a little footage on the beach and will post it soon.Regards,Bob
Nice, Bob. Hope your sand scavenging went well. I sent you a FB Message (probably while you were excavating Daytona Beach).
Hello John, I'm a little behind because I took my phone swimming in the hotel pool. I had to wait until I got home to my computer to answer comments. I'm working on replacing the phone today.Regards,Bob
I think a step bit may be easier to control than a paddle bit for the holes, next time. Did you run into another YT’er whose channel is entitled “I Dig Daytona”?
I didn’t run into him but I’ve seen his videos.
Regards,
Bob
the angle of your pipe it can be cut easily with a chop saw the handle can made of pipe as well use a heat gun to soften the pipe put into a vise while hot make the angle as you wish and the screw the two parts together and reheat the angle to suit your needs the end can drill as you like, sounds like fun hope you did good
I like your ideas Tom, I wish I had had more time to put this project together and I wish I had thought it out better.Regards,Bob
Hi bob, great video. I will say to cut the tube in the first place I would have just set my chop saw to 45 degress(or whatever the desired angle is) and just gone nice a slowly with that. Hope you don't mind me saying that just thought for next time
maybe be even easier on the band saw free hand cut
If I had the big band saw going it would have been a breeze.Regards,Bob
That is a great idea, I was going to use my band saw but it was to small, wish I had thought of the chop saw.Regards,Bob
Sa-weet project. Hopefully be building me one soon, think I'm gonna pull the trigger on an garrett at pro or gold. Hope y'all had a great time at the beach.
That's awesome, I had the chance to for to Kelloco Detectors while in Florida. They sell almost every brand and have a test bed out front. I was in awe and could have spent a ton of cash. Check them out on line.Regards,Bob
I will , I live about 150 miles away. That would be a great day trip!!! Thanks
You are going to flip out when you see that place. The people are super helpful and use and know their detectors. Take tons of cash, you'll want to buy everything.Regards,Bob
I have both the atp and ctx3030....of course price dictates purchase, some hate the atp in wet salty water, I haven't found it too bad, drop the sensa down, ground balance then drop down two manually, make sure your seals are good and remember your MD is waterproof to 10 ft but your headphones are not waterproof at all....if your dog dry sand then get a nice solid scoop, if water then more like the t rex large scoop...the atp of dry sand is a killer machine, I found it won't fine any nuggets small the 1.5gms so don't hit the hills, get your test garden made and learn the sound, then dig sound and finally learn pro mode first, the STD mode just delays the eventual move up and will cost you small finds.
+RJBWoodTurner bought my ctx from kellyco, my atp from metaldetector.com....mostly the best deal on the ctx, the md.comwas because at the time they were like 20 miles from me.
being an md'er I'd say this might be a very basic one day scoop but we look at SS scoops and braced with a 90 degree handle to make it easier to push into wet or dry sand and pull back...mine is a cylinder scoop but the same 90 degree handle with extra brace as the pulling back will loosen it and eve tally snap off.
+BusyBeeCompany Thank you for the info.
Regards,
Bob
You could have just put it in your miter saw and cut it at 45 deg
+Andre Regimbal Thank you Andre,
In my haste to complete this project, I neglected the obvious.
Regards,
Bob
Great to know i am not the only pen turner and metal detectorist around. I just bought a Minelab E-trac last year and hope to take it to the beach this year. I hope to make some videos of me doing both soon. What kind of metal detector are you using? Great videos by the way.
Thank you Greg,
My detector is an older model Garrett GTI 1500. It’s still runs true I only wish I had more time to get out and use it.
Regards,
Bob
FYI Folks, if Bob hits paysand in Daytona, this may be the last video we see of him......well, as RJBWoodTurner. lol
Sorry about your luck Ron, I struck out this year. More videos to come,Regards,Bob
Are you a beachcomber? Good luck! Cheers. Mauro
+Mauro il tornitore Hello Mauro,
Only when I go on a vacation to the beach.
Regards,
Bob
Did this work ok while you were at the beach?
It worked great in the dry sand. The wet stuff required dipping it in the ocean. I ended up using the sieve I made with the 1/4” wire mesh. That worked great and I gave this to a kid I saw on the beach who was interested in the detector.
Regards,
Bob
I bet that lasted all of 10 minutes!
It actually worked. It did need some improvements but it worked.
What was that block you used to clean the sandpaper on the spindle sander? Just curious. Thanks.
+BEdmonson85 Hello,
It's just a block of rubber, kind of like a pencil eraser. You can get them at the big box stores.
Regards,
Bob
have you heart of pi (3.1415) and the way simply ,to calculate the values in head ? hm.
I have heard of pi, but I'm not sure what you mean by calculate the values in head. Can you explain more?Thank you,Bob
how did your sand scoop work on the beach?
It worked well in the dry sand. Wet sand didn’t filter through as well. I gifted it to a little kid on the beach before heading home. Planning an upgraded model next time I go to the beach.
Regards,
Bob
Did you get rich?
I wish....Regards,Bob
Neat idea. Did you do any good?
~Scott
Not as good as I would have liked, Sand, Salt, and Water give some tricky signals.Regards,Bob
Oh man you went right by my place I could of hooded up witch ya
Sorry Dave, My wife didn't want me announcing the trip until after.Regards,Bob
That I understand and don't blame her
That's 4" PVC
Thank you.
this is too much work just buy a scoop
I enjoyed making it. Scoops are expensive.

It’s a block of rubber. Got it at the big box store.
