UPDATE: They've addressed some of the issues I've brought up in a later quality improvement release, Details here: ua-cam.com/video/o9ohhmkTXB8/v-deo.html
I just bought a Tactile Maverick with black milled micarta covers and the magnacut blade. Incredible knife; not a single issue with it. Dare I say modern folder masterpiece? Worthy of a Nick Shabazz review for sure!
We need more EDC knives like this in the 3” range, simple and functional while still fidget friendly and aesthetically pleasing. I wish they would make this in a more “budget”version maybe a micarta and 14c28n or s35VN.
We have started to import the Tactile knives into Australia and they are very popular. Tactile had some problems with shipping to Australia and removed Australia from their ship to list but we found a way around that.. Both the Rockwall and the Bexar have extremely good fit and finish. They company is a pleasure to do business with as well.
Thanks for the great (as always) review! Decided to finally pull the trigger after seeing your update vid about the finish change. Can’t wait to compare it to my knurled waypoint.
This looks like a great design but as some others have mentioned, the Magnacut option is a big point of interest for this model and I'll personally wait to see if they'll offer it with a higher HRC in the future before making a final decision. I'm glad you compared it to the Waypoint however, as they are indeed similar in ways. I have had a Waypoint as my EDC for nearly 2 years and it's been great overall (Vanax performs well and is relatively easy to work with). I too like this is a hair under 3" which means it can legally go more places than a Waypoint, and the fit and finish likely is one step above. There are more finish options on the QCs, so I hope to see that with the Tactile offerings at some point. Cheers!
I love my rockwall thumb stud. I can't think of another fully USA made other than the ball bearings and detent, titanium, linerlock, semi custom knife for under $300.. Fantastic!!
Nice to see they started making the backspacer out of titanium now I've got one of the first Magnacut versions that were still using stainless But love it just the same! Great little knife with great action!
I had all sorts of QC issues with my OG Rockwall. Lock rock, lock stick, gritty action. Their customer service was pretty fantastic but after I got it back from them they didn’t really fix the problems I had. I ended up having to fix the lock rock thing myself. And I still can’t get the blade perfectly centered. And I’ve tried multiple methods, multiple times. After carrying and flipping it for a day it goes right back to favoring the show side again. But… I can’t deny I still love the knife despite all its shortcomings lol.
@@landscapingspecialist maybe it’s the 300 bucks I spent that’s preventing me from complaining too much. I just want it to be as good as it should be so badly. Granted, blade centering is the only issue I have now.
I really like how this looks, but I went through 3 bexars due to QC issues before just returning the last one and being done. I'm glad that seems to be getting better, and I'd love to try the company out again, but...we'll see.
@@MrRide2Live2Day To be fair I would have actually been really happy with mine if it wasn't for the QC issues. I'd have even been happy if after the first trip back to the factory everything got fixed, because things happen. The fact that I had to go through 3 though really left me with some feelings though. I really, really want to like these. USA made, decently priced, nice design, but as things are right now, I just don't think they're ready. It's kind of a shame because in my mind it dilutes the brand a little bit. For example I know they are working on a fixed blade, which would be appealing to me but I'm not confident enough to buy one now (The restock fee they have for returns doesn't help). I really do wish them the best though, and hope they get their feet under them.
@@taracor2000 I too do not have the confidence to try another one for a while. The only thing positive thing they did for me was not charging a restocking fee.
I'd take issue with a couple of points here. First, the small, low-profile thumb studs aren't great for my hands, and particularly so because they're sharp at top. To thumb-flip it I have to jam my thumb into that cutout, into the sharp edge of the stud, which is literally irritating and leads to failures. It also makes it very difficult to reverse flick the blade, which is my preferred opening method. If the studs were just 1/8" longer (like the Drift) this would be a non-issue. Second, while the blade stock is relatively thin, it's not AS thin as I'd like (and not as thin as, e.g., the Bugout or TRM Atom), and--at least with my copy--it is definitely not ground thin behind the edge. After putting on my preferred 15° per bevel, I get a reading of .026" behind the edge. Granted, that's inevitable to an extent due to the small blade, but I'd have loved to see a nice hollow grind to compensate for that. That said, I still like the knife because of the looks, quality of construction, ergonomics, materials, and USA manufacture.
I actually purchased the flipper Rockwall last year, and tbh, I wasn’t that impressed with the quality. Initially, there was an issue with positioning of the logo on the blade (wasn’t properly centered in the finger groove when closed like it was on the other side). I told them, and they sent me another one, which had poor symmetry of the blade grinding in general as if it was done by hand. I still hold a grudge against Tactile for charging me a restocking fee when I returned it for a refund.
They did me dirty when attempting to procure replacement parts for a titanium side click pen. I gravitated riiiight on back to Machine Era and I won't look back.
Oh yeah! I love this knife. I have been carrying it for a week and had to check to make sure it was still in my pocket. I agree that there are not many others in it’s class. @@user-dv8dj1yt6o yes, boring tools are often the best kind. I may have picked that attitude up from Nick on a previous video. I like the smallish, deep carry, unbranded pocket clip for the same reason you stated.

Hah, you did review this latest Rockwall with the MagnaCut. I'm slightly disappointed to see that clip, as the one of the nits I have with the CF Bugout is that it's hard to get on/off my carhartt jeans. This looks to have the same problems potentially. The Hogue DR you reviewed had a better looking clip with a longer ramp to it. In regard to $300, this is a much better knife than my CF Bugout by the looks of it, but it is smaller. Still this is a much classier gentleman EDC that has bearings. I'm not sure if I will find the button lock safe or not, I do like the axis lock and think the Hogue DR lock is similar. Thanks for another great review. Still would like something a bit more personal.
Do like the looks of this thumb stud Rockwall. I might buy one. I had one in my cart 2 weeks ago and decided not to. But I still might pull the trigger.
I honestly felt that the Rockwall flipper that I bought had a finish closer to the thumb stud version you are showing. So I think they maybe made a better version for the review samples. Whiiiich doesn’t leave a great taste in my mouth
G'day Nick, yep nice alright, but yeah that cut out especially when open draws the eye, if it actually helped the ergos I could ignore it. The flipper version is more my go, no issues with pecking, there's noth'n else in that pocket, lol. Cheers Duke.
I literally can't get one of the body screws out. It's locked up. Iv tried heating it with a lighter and everything and it's in there. So no taking it apart. Not good tactile. Not good.
Yep, it's a sad thing that the pocket clip isn't reversable to accommodate lefty pocket carry. The Safety First seasonal release is coming soon... I wanted to get a matching knife but it's not gonna be worth $400 to hate it sitting in my pocket backwards. 🤷 Too much money for realistic inconvenience.
I have the flipper version. I like the looks and size, but it misses a snappy detent, the action is generally terrible (not even shake-shut and gritty without grit as well) and the clip wouldn’t fit my pockets until i bended the clip so far outward that it doesn’t touch the scale anymore and now tics when I hold the knife. That’s too much frustration for a 300 usd knife. I also have the Waypoint that doesn’t have any of those issues and therefor finds my pockets way more often.
It sucks, I want to love flippers but I can’t. My first knife was a kershaw leek so I’m used to just touching the flipper tab and having it shoot out and now I hate how much effort I have to put in to deploy a manual flipper. If I was going to buy this knife I would probably end up with the thumb stud version.
I used to laugh at the "pocket pecker" comments about flipper tabs.. until the flipper tab on one of my ZT knives cracked my phone's screen one day lol 😅🤷🍻
