T'Pol REFUSING to believe that time travel is real for 2 and a half seasons

special thanks to Xindi on ex-astris-scientia for compiling a list of Enterprise's time travel episodes and summaries
"The Science Vulcan Directorate has determined that time travel is.... Not fair."
"The Bible says..."
Einstein: “You can time travel by either wormhole or probably exceeding the speed of light.”
T’pol: “But, The science vulcan directorate say it’s impossible to time travel…”
Will is Not
If The Vulcan Science Directorate has made a determination that time travel is impossible, how come Spock did it, when they had to rescue 2 Whales from 1980's earth and get back the same way, by sling shotting around the sun ! Yes, I know Enterprise is before Kirk and Spock, and as someone has pointed out in their answer here, Vulcans are into some shady crap, and I know that would also mean Time Travel. Way too secretive and dismissive.
@@bravobr9725 simple logic, if they openly admitted it was possible then scientists would attempt to do it and possibly cause irrepairable damage to the time line. To prevent that from happening they must state that time travel is impossible
T'Pol and the Vulcans: "time travel isn't possible and it never will be"
Spock: "allow me to introduce myself"
The Kelvin Timeline: "allow me to introduce yourself... again... and Jim too- it's a bit confusing, there's a lot of lens flares here"
*Remembers that they ended up in the same time period as both Gene Roddenberry and Star Trek*
“I’m William Bell.”
🤣🤣🤣
Spock: ''greetings, my name is Selek, and I am your uncle...''
"You've hardly changed, mother"
"I will end you in a manner consistent with the Vulcan Science Directorate's Ethics Panel"
T'Pol: *literally time travels*
Also T'Pol: “The Vulcan Science Directorate has determined that time travel is impossible”
Archer "We literally just time travelled!"
T'Pol "Yeah, well I'm a drug addict, so who knows what I really just experienced..."
She said it so many times that I'm really surprised she didn't do the standard fingers in ears and "la la la la" bit as well when Archer spoke about it.
Archer could have really made a good quip there though.
"it shows how advanced Vulcans are, they are how many centuries ahead of Earth? Yet it's Humans who are time travelling while Vulcans are still denying it can be done."
Man, she and Einstein can argue all day..
The Spiral Power guide to the universe says to do the impossible, see the invisible, and row row, fight the powa!
Determining that something is impossible, does not make it so ! A determination of anything is as simple as saying, we don't actually know. they are pissed, because they have not yet done it. So if they can't prove it, it can't happen !!!! That's so wrong and illogical on way too many levels. It also implies a certain level of ignorance and arrogance.
I love how T’Pol continues to say that the vulcan science directorate says time travel isn’t possible. Its like if she continues to say it, then maybe it will eventually become true.
Technically, the fact that the Vulcan Science Directorate says time travel is impossible *is* true. Though that doesn't mean that their belief it itself justified.
@@casey6556 then explain all the time travel incidents.
@@jarrodskufcagaming5203 Whether the Vulcan Science Directorate *believes* time travel is impossible is distinct from whether it *is* possible.
In the Trek universe, clearly they believe it isn’t but it in fact is.
It IS true!
Only me sees a disguised joke on religionist blind faith here? Vulcans had lost their roots at this time and became quite fundamentalist. Anything established became a dogma. And dogmas are not scientific. We should keep that in mind since Einstein at least. We just have this for a while now. But things change. All the time.
"He should have all the time in the world" - sick burn
Behind the scenes, even Jolene Blalock was known to adlib a line or two. There's a particular scene that aired that was filmed in sickbay where her character quipped and the other actors nearly broke character suppressing their urge to laugh. I believe it was the episode where Tripp got knocked up and alien-prego and she played T'Pol as both amused and not amused.
T'Pol: Time travel isn't real
Crewman Daniels: I guess you folks aren't ready for that yet, but your kids are gonna love it.
Human be fuckin everything on other planets that are alien🤣🤣🤣
Vulcans: "Time travel is not possible!"
Humans: "Haha clock go brrrrrr!"
It's kind of amazing that really up until that point all the smartest races in the galaxey didn't have any evidence that timetravel exists. Than humans take to the stars and they have time travel adventures like every third adventure. The Vulcans must be up here like "we have been exploring this area of space for over 1000 years than these Humans come along and in 5 years they find 3 different God like beings, and have gone back in time 82 different times and One of them even found an altenate universe"
This boils down to what I like to call 'The Irwin Effect', whereas other intelligent species will see a big scary dangerous thing and rightly avoid it, humans have a tendency to quite literally thump it with a stick.....thus shenanigans through time and space!
@@Veklim Humans used to hunt bears for sport with .. spears.
Then you have those crazies that chase after venomous snakes to catch with their bare hands.
Don't forget those over size Russians that have contests in face slapping to knock the spit out of each other's mouths.
@@Veklim that makes sense. There's an episode where ambassador s'val is talking with Admiral Forrest about how the Vulcans can't define Humans. I feel that humans would be defined as "Curious"
And now Picard and the Borg are doing it again..

Archer "We literally just time travelled!"
T'Pol "Yeah, well I'm a drug addict, so who knows what I really just experienced..."
T'Pol:"I still don't believe in time travel"
Archer: "T'POL, STOP PISSING ME OFF!" 😬😬😬😬😬😬
Captain Archer has more emotional control than any Vulcan to not flip out.

@@virginiaconnor8350 So where is he?
Jolene Blalock is so underrated as an actress, it's not even funny. She could convey the entire deepness and texture of her character with only slight facial gestures, the emotion in her eyes, and very subtle voice inflections.
Amazing.
Quite possibly the best acting for any Vulcan in the franchise. Definitely some of the best writing for one.
@ she pretty much stated she retired from acting.
@@chrisloesch1870 Sad. So did Robin Curtis.
She's ... ok. And so was Jeri Ryan as 7 of 9. But if you want true genius watch, or re-watch, V for Vendetta. Weaving conveys the entire wealth of human emotion and expression all while wearing a fixed, full face mask.
@@amberscion1513 The hottest woman I watched was V. she had a body and was sexy (bad sexy at that). Diane Baldrock - was the sexiest woman for a great while.
The way Vulcans use the word 'logic' in Star Trek reminds me of that one line from the Princess Bride:
"You keep using that word.
I do not think it means what you think it means."
The best line in her whole time travel isnt possible was with archer while she was feeling delirious or half awake.
"Time travel isnt....not fair"
Good one. 👏🏻

I love how Phlox is so open minded and even pokes fun at the Vulcan Science Directorate.
A trip to Detroit wasn't totally enough to convince her that she and Archer had left the 22nd. century?
The Vulcan science directorate says time travel isn’t possible
@@eugenetimberlake5648
Hahahahaha
They already encountered holodeck technology at this point.
As well as aliens capable of mental illusions.
Both are as valid a explanation as time travel.
Could be a holodeck, mind altering aliens, Q playing games. The real evidence is when they return. after spending so many hours in the past, they return to just moments after they left where Trip is still holding the duty roster.
T'pol's skepticism is helpful. It forces the case to be made stronger and stronger. Increaseing confidence in the validity of the claim and determining its limitations.
Without the mathmatics to prove or understand the full nature of time travel. One has to make deductions based on the evidence presented.
Not to mention the possibility that it all might be an illusion.
Everything might be an illusion, if the illusions are changing our mental states for better or worse, then we have to concern ourselves with those illusions (and the rules of those illusions). Also she is constantly making arguments from authority here (Vulcan science directorate) and calling it logical.
@@thesystem5980 had Daniel's chosen T'Pol to interact with and shared the science backing his time travel then her skepticism might have been avoided. As a Vulcan, T'Pol wouldn't have shared any information pertaining to time travel with Starfleet or the High Command for the same reasons Vulcans avoid cultural contamination. It is strange that Daniel's limited his interactions primarily to Archer.
@@joeclaridy there are whole story arcs about vulcans doing shady shit. Temporal prime directive would definitely forbid teaching anyone in the past how time travel works. That would be like going to earth in the 1940s and teaching humans how warp drive works cause someone was skeptical you were an alien.
The Vulcan Science Directorate would like you to take your antipsychotic medication today.
Here is a funny thought:
Some time traveler went back time and "conditioned" the Vulcan Science Directorate to brain washed every single Vulcan who studied there, so every time someone ask a Vulcan who studied there about time travel their brain triggered an automated response: "The Vulcan science Directorate has concluded that time travel is impossible." So you see T'Pol isn't skeptical she's being conditioned and that is also why even being tortured she kept repeating it like a mantra.🤯 And it also opens another plot as to why someone from the future wants to actively block the Vulcans to even think about time travel.
Much like the conditioning many schoolkids today have to beleive the crap the government is telling them without question.
@@Tryst46 Sad but true!

Enterprise Vulcans were full on fascists. Dictating what humans could and couldnt do, trying to slow the warp engine project. Even Soval tells Forest "The council is concerned what humans have achieved, and what humans could achieve in the next 100 years." They give off that smug, egotistical, arrogant, dick energy. At least, try. What do you think all those fans did in the '60s when "Star Trek" was going to be cancelled after 3 seasons? I was one of them and I was barely 13 and only 1 more season was added. "Enterprise" deserves 3 more seasons to wrap up the Romulan War, begin the Federation, and end with the characters' future lives. Trip is not dead; the new story could tell what happened to him as he started on his new mission of infiltrating the Romulans. If the writers could follow the books-from "The Good That Men Do" and "Kobayashi Maru", the 2 Romulan War" series, and the 5 "The Federation" books, they could get some material for writing more episodes. I was hoping to see Archer come back and do the Woody Woodpecker laugh-just to get T'Pol in a good mood, then I remembered it was an out-take with Scott and Jolene.
The captions were mostly too tiny and/or too fast to read.
3:37 If she had watched TNG, T'pol would know that "alien with godlike abilities" is always a valid explanation

Guy uses a hand-mounted device, enabling him to walk through a solid wall. T'Pol "So, that doesn't mean time travel is real!"

Both she and Archer are instantly sent 90 lightyears to Earth and 150 years in the past. T'Pol "Yea....well I'm still not sure time travel is real"
She met her son From ultimate timeline Who is old enough to be her own father
I mean, in all fairness, they could have been transported to some holodeck that simulated 2004 Earth, so it's not 100% proof that time travel is real. Although their return to the ship moments after leaving even though they spent hours in the past should be convincing enough, unless she believes everyone is on it and faking it.
And she is correct in 2/3 of those cases.
1. Device could have any origin, like from more advanced species of the same time.
3. Holodeck technology can be very persuading.
If the case number 2 is Lorian - she is not as sceptical, as she previously vas.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Time travel is an extraordinary event.
@@netfan7117 The fact that her own ancestry is involved should be enough evidence to lend major credence to the other 2 points. Also holodeck technology wasn't nearly as prominent or widespread in that time period as it was in TNG. Only a very few alien species had advanced holodeck tech at that point.
@@Astraeus.. On it's own it gives credence to the idea of the other two points being EXPLAINABLE by time travel, as one of the possible versions. But it does not prove them actually being RELATED to the time travel. T'Pol's (and Trip's) own ancestry provides proof only to that particular point. Even then, we are talking about Trek. For example, are you absolutely sure that something capable of performing the remote hack of the scanning equipment in the Medbay (relatively unsophisticated by that era) and force it to display false readings can't be technobabbled into local reality, and together with cosmetic alteration, create convincing fake?
T'Pol: “The Vulcan Science Directorate has determined that time travel is impossible”
Daniels sitting there with a drill set to reverse hooked to a clock: "I'm about to do what's called a pro gamer move."
I think people tend to overlook the fact that Enterprise, having tried to create the origin story for loads of Trek stuff like Photon Torpedoes, the Klingon foreheads issue, etc, also did it for time travel. Clearly people (like Kirk and crew) were aware of time travel by the 23nd century, though likely avoided it due to an early version of the Temporal Prime Directive. And sometime early enough in the 23rd to 24th centuries, the Department of Temporal Investigations existed to have put Kirk's time escapades on file. I've noticed fans tend to take the whole time travel awareness thing by the 23rd century for granted...clearly it was made known to Humans and other Federation members because of Archer's experiences.
"Impossible we have standards" lmao
T'Poll is BEAUTIFUL and ADORABLE when she cannot explain something she is peplexed about, especially when her crew is stiring her up 😂
Yeah she plays it like a stubborn little girl, even gets pouty.
Logic is based on premises.
When new data is uncovered that proves or disproves a premise, the entire chain of logic changes.
T'Pol continually referencing logic ignores that fact - the Vulcan equivalent of being stubborn.
When she was battling her addiction from trellium D. I could feel her pain. She’s a really good actress and a massively gorgeous one as well. I have all 4 seasons. Must watch them again. Thank you.
Yeah, she did a couple of episodes of SG-1 and freakin' vanished. I always wanted to see more of her.
her actual experience time traveling could've been accomplished by the tng crew. transporter + recreated environment, add a cloaked ship and they could totally fool Archer.
Sisko had legit timetravel: he remembers a Gabriel Bell that wasn't him, evidence that he changed time.
many explanations could've applied for the other times she was asked to explain, but they'd be wild speculation that hinged on the existence of "advanced" beings, of unknown intentions, manipulating events. time travel seems like the easiest explanation, but it creates many new problems.
Transports on TNG have a limited rang and can't transport people light years away.
Also, holographic environments and people don't give off life sign readings.
And 8ts hard to set up holoemitters on another persons ship without them noticing.
And TNG still doesn't have the tech to phase threw wall using only a device that can fut on your hand.
Not to mention, the knowledge of future events Archer knew was going to happen with specific details.

@@BradyPostma While Vulcans themselves do not have premonitions (Tuvok says this in the Voyager episode Fury) they may very well have seen it in other species. Certainly by the time of the original series, it's well known to Federation science that premonitions exist, even among some humans, as evidenced in this dialogue from the episode Where No Man Has Gone Before:
KIRK: Extrasensory perception. Doctor Dehner, how are you on ESP?
DEHNER: In tests I've taken, my ESP rated rather high.
KIRK: I'm asking what you know about ESP.
DEHNER: It is a fact that some people can sense future happenings, read the backs of playing cards and so on, but the esper capacity is always quite limited.
I think it's reasonable to conclude that Vulcans would also have observed the phenomena prior to Enterprise.

Love the thumbnail.
For those of you who don't get it, it's an illustration of the fact that faster-than-light travel implies time travel. If you can go faster than light, you can travel through time.
EDIT: It should be noted, as is frequently misunderstood, ANY ability to reach some point in space before light normally can, NO MATTER THE METHOD, ALWAYS implies the ability to travel through time. This is because there is no such thing as one agreed-upon “now”. You can just change what “now” means by accelerating to a sufficient fraction of the speed of light in the right direction, use your ftl signalling method, and receive a signal before you send it.
But, that is exactly what you are doing ! At it's most basic, time travel is taking one step at a time, except with a starship, it's at warp speed, by bending space and time in front of your ship you are time travelling, you are getting from one point to another in a fraction of the time it would take in todays level of space travel. I don't need to be a scientist to grasp that concept.
Yea but in Star Trek they don't go faster than light, warp drive specifically exists to get around that technicality
T'Pol can be very surprising sometimes.
Would be interesting to compare just how many scientific breakthroughs and discoveries Vulcan scientists made prior to Surak's teachings on the logical life being embraced across the entirety of Vulcan society, for scientific phenomena that doesn't work entirely on purely logical principles (quantum mechanics for instance), with those made post fully logic-driven Vulcan Science Directorate. ;-)
actually technically speaking, quantum and temporal mechanics is logical, but only if you understand it fully and know how it all works in the first place, otherwise, even to the average vulcan, its horribly illogical and really really stupid.
They should bring back
this show, or make a movie about this time travel 900 year, into the future storyline what a great story and show, thanks for sharing, thanks!!🎉🎉

So if time travel never existed, how do you explain the original series episode "Tomorrow is Yesterday"? An episode written by D.C.Fontana, an alma mater of my high school, "Passaic Valley Regional High School" in Little Falls N.J.? D.C. Fontana was "Dorothy Fontana" a resident of Totowa N.J. and a graduate of my alma mater, the Passaic Valley Regional High School. Dorothy was graduated about ten years before me. I was graduated in the year 1970, so she was an early resident of Totowa, New Jersey, a member of the Passaic Valley Regional High School which also consisted of towns of Little Falls, and West Paterson, New Jersey. Dorothy C. Fontana was a Totowa resident and I'm proud to say I grew up in the same little "Borough" that she grew up in.
Dorothy Fontana died a few years ago, but she was Gene Roddenberry's secretary who was able to write better scripts than he. Dorothy came up with the very first "Time Paradox" episode of the Star Trek progeny, "Tomorrow is Yesterday" which Gene Roddenberry claimed he wrote, but that was a lie. Dorothy wrote the script. Back in the day women were not supposed to take credit for anything creative. They were considered too dumb. Dorothy proved them all wrong. Dorothy was also credited with many other Star Trek episodes like "Charlie X" and others on the series "Star Trek the Next Generation". I'm proud to have grown up in the same borough as Dorothy. However, I never knew her because she was ten years ahead of my time. God bless her soul, D.C.Fontana (Dorothy C. Fontana). You wrote some of the best early scripts of Star Trek fame. You are a genius in my mind. Please say hello to God for me while you are up there.

Southern Confusion is a great subtitle
Not a Discovery fan but, you made that fun 😊
Keep going back and pausing on your comments...then cracking up!
Thanks for a moment of smiles 😁
And there you have it. "Logic destroys curiosity"
A culture would really be scientifically stunted if it embraced pure logic.
Nope. Absolutely not. I sense a confusion in the force ... Oops ! I mean in your reasoning. Logic is not "science". Science is logico-factual aka rationality, principle of rationality. And it's a work in progress.
Logic isn't the real world, it is an abstract world, logic does not mean credible, we must distinguish between logical truth and semantic truth.
You can say a lot of things perfectly logical but utterly wrong if your premises are false, not facts or incomplete.
Each time a Vulcan says "logic", you should hear/understand "rational". Gene Roddenberry was just a little bit too ignorant, like any of us, that's all.
Lack of curiosity comes from conformisme, conservatisme, excess of gregarious 'instinct'. Fear sums it all up ...
This is why she didn't believe in love either, and refused to marry Trip.
Imagine if T'pol watched Voyager 😂
"Sceptical" that’s the first crack from the hard line of “impossible”
Maybe the Vulcans were right. Time travel was not possible. But then the pesky humans come along with all their stories of time travel and paradoxes and such. As Wesley stated "That space and time and thought aren't the separate things they appear to be". Hence it only becomes possible to travel in time to beings whose thoughts even allow for it. And their thoughts cause time and space to change enough to make such travel possible where it should be impossible without that third force (Thought). And of course TPol's interaction with the humans infected her with this belief, she took it back to the Science Institute and the learned to accept it and the belief spread .. and then you have Spock doing Temporal Slingshot calculations in his head in the future. LOL.
so sad to see Jolene Blalock retired from acting, would have loved to see her as T'Pol again in future ST Discovery or ST Stange New Worlds, or star trek section 31 with michelle yeoh. And even in Picard season 3 with an assist from Q.
Bring this show back , I would watch it
It's actually very unscientific to claim something doesn't exist just because you haven't discovered it yet. A core principal in science is that we keep revising our theories and laws to incorporate new discoveries.
Logically, distortions of the spacetime around large gravity wells are not a useful method of time-travel.
They merely accelerate the rate at which radiation and gravity shear destroys life.
Such distortions create insurmountable problems. Therefor, time travel does not and can not exist.
Until something new comes along that does fit with what is known, this remains true.
Logical, but does not deny the future.
- and we all travel in time: one second per second, futureward only.
T'Pol, "I see you've brought your stinky beast." Archer, "Yes, and I've also brought my dog!"
She is the best Star Trek Actress
Good production, thank you.
7:18: You're on the ceiling, why aren't you on a monitor? - There's no technology where I am - Thought you said you were in the future 😒
