YESSSS
Really love your channel been watching since day one and learn a lot thank you!!
Yay!!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Yassssss 🙌🏾🙌🏾🤸🏾♀️🤸🏾♀️🤸🏾♀️🤸🏾♀️
Yay! I can't wait. The 2010s are my childhood! :)
The fact that kids will never have anything like 106&Park ever again really upsets me
Or Trl. It upsetting cause both of these shows were my childhood 😢
Yeah it's sad cause I wouldn't have got into 106 if it weren't for my older siblings but we gotta move forward. We all gotta deal with change rather we like it or not.
It so super sad.
It’s upsetting me and my homegirls (y’all) 😪
Agreed
AJ learned a valuable lesson: don't ever think of the company you work for as family. They are a business and they would be more than willing to let you go if they needed or wanted to. Be loyal to yourself, not your employer.
Sadly I learned that lesson also with the company I was previously at!
So right I find it's a valuable lesson in life in general. Enjoy the moment, do your best and give your all, but when due season is up leave knowing you did your part, thank God for the opportunity, and look forward to your next assignment.

Real Talk
To be frank, WE stopped watching when AJ and Free left. Loved how AJ and Free were natural and let's not forget Frees boots. Her shoe game was viscous
Those were the Golden Years of the show
Free shoe game was everything
@@albumU7184 Free wore boots winter, spring summer and fall and was fly asf
I agree with this 100% All the hosts after them were boring, and I loved Free's shoes!
106 & Park was never the same after AJ and Free ...that's why its gone .
The show was about so much more than the music. We had a place to come together and celebrate ourselves, see ourselves in a positive light, and learn. They talked about health, dating, voting etc. We needed that daily reminder that we are ONE, are beautifully made, we have a voice.
🎯 perfectly said ❤️
I wish there was a space like that for us now.
Yes. I remember they used to have segments where the spoke about safe sex and brought awareness to HIV/AIDS on World AIDS day. This was important if you consider the fact that not a lot of public schools have sex education.
BET was a totally different network back then, you had Teen Summit, Caribbean Rhythms, The Black College Tour, Tavis Smiley, Rap City, and tons of other great platforms for us to express ourselves on.. news geared towards us..
Viacom bought it strictly to destroy it.
I would love to hear why Robert Johnson Jr sold it, because I doubt it was for money since he was a billionaire already.
@@missyd1215 Facts! We need it desperately nowadays.
Before social media, we were all brought together by television. I do miss those days. I'm in my early 30s and I'm soooooo happy to have been a big kid during those times and could understand this culture at the time. So much has changed. I'm blessed to have these memories even the generation 10 years under me can't even understand.
Same here
Yup
I say this all time. So glad I grew up in the era I did.
Yea
Me too! I’m 33 and it was an amazing time to be a teen. The music and content on tv was so much better. The generation born in the 2000’s and 2010’s would never understand unfortunately
When Free & AJ left is when BET as a whole fell off. All of our favorite daytime & night shows slowly started to dissolve like Rap City, Midnight Love, Comic View etc... Only to be replaced with Baby Boy everytime you turn the station on 😂😂.
Or set it off or a tyler perry movie
Factsssss both ways ⭕❌
Well since Viacom owns MTV and VH1, who are basically airing the same type of movies, they had to do the same for BET. Actually after they bought this station, you didn’t see shows like Video Soul, Teen Summit, BET Tonight, etc.; just those Tyler Perry movies like you mentioned.
Forgot all about comic view!!
Midnight love, Boy boy!!! Don't forget that!!! Bang Bang Bang 👏. REAL TALK...treypound Sacramento
When I was in grade school I would power walk home to watch 106 and park on my television set. Life was a million times better before social media existed. 🎈
So true! I always say social media is a blessing and a curse. Like having an abusive spouse who buys you anything you want.
*YES!*

True
You can say that again!
I remember Free and AJ were some of the biggest role models of my generation back then. They comforted the community when Aaliyah passed away, when 9/11 occurred, when Lefteye passed. They gave us kids something to look forward to after school each day not just to see the latest music videos, but to keep up with our culture and entertain ourselves in a positive manner.
Yes! Well said
Soon as I got off the bus I ran home 2 catch the rap city freestyle and then 106
@@dominiquejones3805 Yesss I LOVED Rap City!! The freestyle was my fav part! I remember I could barely get through my homework watching both shows

Beautifully crafted. I remember when aaliyahs rock the boat stayed at number 1 for almost three months.
I remembered Aaliyah’s last appearances was a few days after she went to the Bahamas. That was the episode Aaliyah gave away a SUV . Then she became an 👼.
i remember watching that episode when i was 12...i was so saddened by her death
“Getting Paid In The Escalade” was the theme. I was 13 and remember it like it was this morning
I miss the early 2000s😍 BET was the ish
Same..!! That was like my after school hip-hop show.
I miss the 1990's
I wish we could go back. I had rocsi and Terrance but I still remember sh and free although I was just a kid. I miss the early 00s too

Free always resembled Mary J Blige to me, and she could sing/rap...a natural beauty!!
Always thought she resembled MJB for real
I thought that they were related at one point because they look so much alike.
Totally agreed!!!! They could pass for sisters for sure.
Yes she is very beautiful
I thought I was the only one that seen the resemblance
AJ is one of the coolest celebrities I ever met . Me and a former coworker hung out with him at a bar in nyc , we were pretty tipsy that night he took care of us made sure we was good. He ended up giving me a diamond access pass to Rihanna’s event and gave advice to my coworker since she was in school for journalism . Big ups to him he’s really dope in real life

AJ looked "progressive" at the time

I remember my freshman year homecoming sewing it up close. It was a no bueno situation
Free natural hair was mainstream before Shea Moisture products. I look back and think about what it symbolized for her to have her natural hair out. This show just meant so much with them.

MTV TRL had nothing on 106.... AJ & Free was BET. Once they left I stop watching 106 I couldn't relate no more THE END
Me too. I remember when they did a casting looking for new host and I was done.
I agree but it was kinda dope that Big Tigger hosted for a year because he also left rap city in 2004

Free & AJ/ B2K Breakup and Aaliyah were some pretty big blows to us kids during 2000-2005.
They really were! You know certain people left a mark on you when you get emotional about their absences or in Aaliyah’s case, her passing 💔🕊
So True!
Damn, I remember the Aaliyah announcement. People grieved like they lost a family member.
& I wanna go back to that era in time , I lovvvved me some 106&park. The FREEstyle Fridays were so fun to watch 😞
@@msnewsenior same. The show was so somber and I even remember Free being so sad to the point of tears
AJ's words from 10:22 to 11:20 is the most important part of this video and he is correct about how blacks get so lost into music and it's negative lyrics and how it subconsciously and distracts blacks from paying attention to what's being done to them. He felt like he played a part in that.
People watched this video should be discussing that instead of talking about AJs hair and Free's clothing.
And nobody wants to talk about this! How murder rates have increased, violence as a whole has increased.
It's funny how he wasn't saying those things when he was working for BET. He only had these things to say after he was gone and no longer collecting a check, so his words mean little to nothing coming from him.
@@muvamiah1974 That's right. Let's blame the music instead of the lack of good parenting and role models in our community.
@@KKelly-ng1ni according to the numbers, the music has a higher impact on murder rates than bad parenting. Not dismissing your argument that parents are at fault but at the end of the day this music is hyping it
@@muvamiah1974 Not only parents, but relatives who are criminals are a big influence on young people around them. Then you have all of the violent movies, TV shows and video games. I think the music is the easiest thing to target in all of the equation.
With free and Aj it felt like a show for adults and younger people but after they left it was a show for teens. AJ is absolutely correct about how music has a effect on the community. That's why I fell out of love with hip-hop as I got older. I am over hearing songs about money, jewelry, cars, clothes and women. They narrative is played out. I wish it would step back into storytelling. It shouldn't be uncool or lame to try to uplift each other. I hate seeing young children trying to replicate what they see in music videos. It's not cute to see a 5 year old trying to twerk. 🙄
You said a mouthful 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
So true
Right! I said the same thing.
Spot on!!! I never understood why my mother took my sisqo and Mase cd away at 14 until I got older and read the lyrics of those songs and other popular songs such as Barbie Girl at the time even as recent as last yr. The fact that I was so naive....damn.
Speak That Truth
We won’t see a show like 106&Park again. Countdown shows weren’t able to sustain when everything went digital.
There was another Show as well that were great for the Teenagers. Called Teen Summit. I agree once everything went digital shows just weren't able to sustain. The 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and the earlier 2000s were the best time for Television.
Never even realized that was the end of an Era fr.
I remember when everything went digital like in 2013. All the shows died
The moment when B.E.T was Never the same. Not just 106 & Park, but the entire network. They’re vibrations transcended beyond the show, and as they stated they were indeed the faces of the network. I’m glad I had the chance to enjoy.
Anyone remember Cita's World?

AJ hit it right on the head. Looking back as an adult now, the 90’s was when Hip Hop went commercial, but when AJ & Free left 106&Park in 2005 it had turned into RAP and there was no longer any substance. The commercialized subject matters were negative.
AJ cried because he knew the positive impact he and Free had on us as teens. It hurt like hell to see my aunti and uncle in my head go. Hip Hop had officially died like Nas said and nothing was the same. 😩😭
I 💯 percent agree!
Hip hop never went commercial ever. That 2005 shit and up ain't hip hop

In my opinion 106& Park died the day Bow Wow was announced as a host. I quit watching after that, I don’t know why but I just lost interest.
@@msnewsenior cause it was Bow Wow.
@@919ENTERTAINMENTLLC Yeah I wasn’t going to there but exactly. He acted like Bow Wow the rapper instead of just trying to host the show. 🎯🎯🎯 facts!!!
This is reminding me of how BET virtually banned the rap group, Little Brother from promoting a lot of their tracks from the album 'The Minstrel Show' because it was "too intelligent". (More info should be on their Wikipedia and Google if you want it.) Completely fked up that a network for Black teens and adults was operating like a YT media network - keeping the masses dumb. Smh!
@@laylayofficial9001 definitely not lying but its hard to combat that truth with everyone saying its up to the parents to monitor what their kids listen to. Its really not that simple. You’d literally have to home school your kids with no access to TV/wifi or friends.
And once she left they didn't hire anymore black women, just mix and latin
😔
💯
True, unfortunately 🤦🏾♀️
That part!..........
I was SOOOOOO angry & COULD NOT get with nor understood having a non-blk woman as a host. It completely turned me off from 106 & Park & BET as a whole! It made no sense & I completely stopped watching 106 & Park. Hell, I stopped watching BET altogether. As a very young black women in the late 90s / early 2000s, it was extremely important & meant so much to me having Free; a natural, natural hair, beautiful, intelligent well dressed “darker” complexioned blk women representation on my TV screen everyday (especially since I grew up in a predominantly yt, suburban community) . I thought I was the only person that felt this way. BET completely dropped the ball & further doomed 106 & Park by replacing Free with a non-blk female host. Always wondered if they’re aware that played a MAJOR part in the demise of the show?
I live in Jamaica. I've never travelled before but i was a part of that show. Missing an episode was unthinkable.
Tr8
The episode they shot after Aaliyah died was the most memorable. They were genuinely distraught and so were the rest of us watching.
I remember that and it was completely heartbreaking

Yay 80's Baby 🥳
I’m 31 and I wanna CRYYYYY.
106 was my LIFE‼️
I use to record bow wow and b2k on the VHS 😩😩
MY favorite 106 And Park moments was when AJ and Free was just as excited when celebrities arrived as the audience was. They helped us make a connection.
And that’s why it no longer exists. They were trying to keep it fresh by replacing them with new faces, while we were very content and happy with them. That’s why it was never the same after they left.
The two ppl they replaced them w were WACK. The girl didn't even look blk 🙄
A bad move. One that wasn’t well thought out. The ratings should be what guides. If it were about “keeping it fresh” they had fresh. They didn’t want to increase their salary.
Yeah, the ratings were tops, so it wasn't the reason they didn't give them longer term contracts.
Man, we grew up in the golden era. So much programming that the teens of today won’t experience.
Thank you for this video.
Well I'd say we caught the tail end of it. I was 17 and 18 in 2005 birthday in the middle of year.

The OGs of 106 & Park! Free & AJ were truly the face of the show! It was sad when they were no longer hosts. It was never the same vibe after they left. Great episode! Thanks for continuing to bring nostalgia to my soul.
One of my favorite moments was during FreeStyle Friday. One of the competitors said something disparaging about A.J to the person he was battling. Early 2000's was lit! The music and the vibes was prime. We had 106&Park, Rap City: Tha Basement and Cita's World just to name a few. Back when BET was actually black owned it was unmatched!
Isn’t it funni that every time we touch something it’s turns into golden magic 🪄 EVERY 1 is trying to sneak a peak look 👀 at BLACK PANTHER 🐆
Midnight love, uncut, teen summit to name a few more....nostalgia!
@@misslovejoy Midnight love was EVERYTHING!!! You could catch ALL the new slow jam videos. Avant, jaheim ,Jagged Edge, Joe ,H-Town n 'em. Everybody!
it was lowkey ghetto af, but still unmatched
And Hits From the Street
Michelle Williams falling was iconic.
Stop!! Lol
Iconic indeed 😂😂😂
Poor baby! I hope she can laugh at it now too.
@@r.p.5903 lol me too!
🤣🤣🤣 Yo, you had to bring that up!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I watched it live, too. The look on Beyonce face was priceless! 🤣🤣🤣
The whole show is the moment. Who didn’t look forward to watching the show everyday at 6 o’clock after school. Free and AJ put permanent mark in culture that will never be forgotten
Omg!!!! AJ and Free.. My young teen years!!! I wondered what happened to them...
You don't miss, EVER! I used to rush home by 6 p.m. to see Free & AJ, I wanted to be a TV journalist thanks to them two **tears**
The shows I missed on (BET) Rap City, Video Soul, 106&Park, Teen Summit, Hell Date, Midnight Love, Comic View
Planet Groove too....
I remember tuning in one day in 06 or 07. I forgot but I was in College by then (Graduated high school in 2005). When I watched I saw all these new people and had no clue who anybody was. The vibe wasn't the same and I never watched again. To any younger folks, this show was huge because in the early 2000s there was no UA-cam so watching shows like 106 was one of the only ways to see your favorite music videos.
Hey!! I graduated high school in 2005 too!!
@@Awillii *fist bumps my fella sista from another Mr*
Same, I also graduated c/o '05!!
Class of 05!!!!
*same exact story I was like who tf is Terrence & Rocsi* 🥴
Free had the best outfits, I tuned in to see what she was going to be wearing. She was unapologetic with her natural hair!!!
I really miss 106 and park and I love you all so much ❤ and you all are in our hearts 💕 God bless you all and their family and their friends 🙏❤ and also all of the people who watch 106 and park God bless you all also ❤ and their family and their friends 🙏❤
See Terrance & Rocsi they were aiight, but there will never be a duo as great as AJ & Free I remember those days rushing to get home just to watch them & Rap City with Big Tigger 😤😭😭
Terrance & Rocsi sucked too lol
It came on twice....10am CST 6PM
I miss Rap City so much... That booth was legendary
@@alphacharm they sucked HARD. They were God awful 😣
@@chevezloyd2083 I miss Midnight Love 😭. When you could get all the new slow RnB videos. HTown, Silk, Jagged Edge, Joe, Avant, Jaheim, etc
AJ spoke alot of real shit about setting a leading positive example for our kids and our culture. 106 & Park was definitely a staple to my Jr. High & High School years.
That’s why BET ain’t watched as much today..This was an attack on HipHop culture..50cent brought the image they wanted for HipHop knowing the negative energy this would bring to HipHop..They gave him the biggest platform to tear down his own ppl..Ppl wonder why 50 still relevant..He was used to destroy HipHop..But they forgot our culture had spread further than they thought..Southern HipHop took over and these rappers came in with more independence and creative control over there music..But noticeably they were a lot more reckless with their lives doing the drugs and spending money ridiculously so they gave these guys the platform knowing this type music was bad for the culture because our culture reached the youth early in its years and the youth was who was mostly affected by HipHop and if you can reach the youth you could run the culture..
I loved when they had a cameo in Drumline
Me too I watched that movie over and over in 2002.
Great movie
The only man who can wear locs and braids at the same time ❤️

It can be done
Was not no dang wig...
@@lawilliams4002 that was not a wig 💀
@@yesitsher5888 it actually was a wig..theres a video of it
the show was never the same once they left. They left a huge impact on the culture and we appreciate them 🙏
Troycetv also talks about the fall of 106 & Park. I recommend it if you're more interested!
Yes his video was dope!
Do you have the UA-cam link

@@roderickwilliams67 There you go!
AJ grew up spiritually that made him conscious of the filth in our music and the music industry.
He revealed something but our people on here talking about shoe game. Distractions...
The fact that the deeper message is going over everyone's heads in the comments because they cant get over on her shoe game and his looks and hair is next level WTF smh.
That part!
