Wow, this is a wonderful invention! I like the coated metal instead of the netting material. Horses can't rip it, and coated probably makes it easier on their teeth. Very little waste as they cannot walk/poop in their hay, and it's all covered from rain and snow. I agree it gives them something to do and keeps them busy so they aren't off getting into trouble hurting themselves somewhere or breaking down fence lines haha. Slow, small and continuous feeding is how they are designed to eat. Dumping grain and hay too quickly into their system is how we get problems. Seriously genius. I can't believe there are any neutral or negative comments here. Sharing this with everyone I know, and going to check out your webpage now. :)

    Hi Bonnie,
Good question! The hay in the middle is storage for 2 bales. This saves you from having to lug 2 more bales to the feeder the next time. Convenient when someone else is feeding you horses. It is an added option to the feeder. We thought it a clever way to use up the space. See our website for more details.
    Thanks,

Wild horses work harder for food. This hay feeder is a luxury! There are better ones out there for the short term, but for a few days, it's a time saver, especially if you have someone looking after your ranch while you're out of town.

As owner and inventor, it is my pleasure to respond to your thoughts on our Feeders. Horses don't get mad, actually the opposite. The feeders give them a job to do & working hard is the idea. It keeps them occupied & keeps hay in their stomach at all times. We are not comparing your horse to a wild horse although the feeding process is based on the same theory.See our website for indepth information on our feeders, horse nutrition & slow feeding.
Thank you kindly for all your comments.

    Hello Elwood,
Thanks for your question and sorry for the late reply, I'm still new to this technology! Our 100 hr feeder typically feeds 1 horse for 100 hrs or 4 days. The horse gets as much hay as he requires within that time. The concept of continuous slow feeding says horses should never go without. By topping it up after 3-4 days, they learn that hay is growing out of the feeder and soon relax when eating and graze as nature intended. See our website for more details.

Drury Healthy Horse Feeders , does using the coated metal grid eliminate issues with the horse's teeth that others have reported? I have begun looking into getting a slow feeder, but after hearing the bad reviews when using metal grids over a long period, I have been too scared to use one.

I have seen what a "slow feeder" with any metal grating or guards will do to horse's teeth. A horse will grind down their teeth to the gum line just to get to food.

I have to admit to being confused. How does the hay in the middle ever get used?
