Hey everyone! I'm back this week joined by a very special guest vocalist, the amazingly talented Mitch Grassi! You guys may know Mitch from his work in his acapella group, Pentatonix. Go look them up and have your mind blown, if not :) Mitch and I both absolutely love Zedd's music and his new song, "Find You." We couldn't wait to get into the studio to record it for you guys, and hope that you like the twist we've put on it here!

As much as I love Mitch's high notes and the beauty of the high registers, him singing low notes gives me just as much chills
That is exactly how I feel. I grew so used to hearing him and his high notes, which is impressive and I'm sure that's why they do it all the time. So when I watched this I was taken back. I was like, "okay four seconds in and I'm suddenly in love with him." lol I think his voice is so interesting. I always think about how him and Justin Bieber are so close to the same age and WHY on earth Mitch can't be as popular when he can sing like THIS.

I feel like whenever Mitch is with Pentatonix, he's always either singing obscure harmonies or belting really high notes. It's nice to hear something more authentic from him. He nails everything he does though.
That's because Pentatonix doesn't know how to be low-key. They're pedal to the metal in every song. Even their slower tunes and ballads, they always amp it up like they're afraid no one will like their stuff unless there are belted high notes.
Just let singing be singing. It doesn't have to be a spectacle.

@@zachgray4767 while they love their dramatics for sure, they have many sweet and simple songs. Usually not their singles/videos though. Recent christmas album I think both "my heart with you" and "evergreen" would fall in to that category, just off the top of my head.

@@Lupin788 absolutely agreed, but they've definitely, for lack of a better word, 'overdone' quite a few songs in order to consistently ensure wows from first-time listeners and stuff, not to mention if they fail to be consistently very impressive, it can feel unlikable/self-centered to be a band that doesn't use intruments, ONLY their voice.

God, Mitch's voice does so many things to me
I'm a huge Mitch Grassi fan, but I want to take a moment to acknowledge Evan Duffy on piano. You are so skilled! I love watching your fingers fly, and hearing that beautiful music you're making on that piano! I was a pianist for my own pleasure before a connective tissue disorder made playing ever again an impossibility. I lost muscle memory, fine and large motor skills and cognitive skill as well. I also suffer from repetitive motion injury. It's terribly painful. So this heart that aches to play is full after listening to your playing! Such a skilled pianist! Thank you for having my favorite vocalist, Mitch Grassi, on your channel. Keep making music. It's food for so many souls. 😊♥️🎼

Mitch's voice is always amazing and I love the high notes he can hit and does hit so often in the stuff he does with PTX, but there is something so incredible about his lower register, I just get instant goose bumps and it's like a punch to the gut almost. I was rendered completely speechless by this video and I just... I'm not even sure. Just this was so incredible and talented and this cover was FREAKING PHENOMENIAL!!!

I kinda wish this were private...I am a professional singer/songwriter and I simply cannot listen to that amazing voice of yours enough. I even listen for your harmonies when Pentatonics sings because with your outstanding pitch and tone, I want to hear EVERYTHING I can, and I LOVE great harmonies. I become transfixed and blown away by what you can do with the instrument God gave you. I love your other-worldly range, your whistle tone but I think I love your lower range the best. But I also love your vocal control, your vocal flexibility, your miasma strength, your interpretations and your selling of every song you sing. I have very good relative pitch and nothing is more distracting to me as when singers are out of tune. I become almost frantic when I hear something pitchy live, and I have a reputation among people who know me of grabbing the thigh of whomever is next to me, man or woman, stranger or friend (ok, that sounds weird)! Okay, I’ve only grabbed people I know, but I think I’m fully capable of invading a stranger’s personal space if the pitch is off enough! I mean, I do this because I don’t want to hurt people’s feelings, who are singing, but I cannot bear the bad pitch. Anyway, when I hear Pentatonix, I’m truly blown away by the amazing vocal arrangements (am a vocal arranger, too) the creativity, the fact that EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU can knock it out of the park with solos, and the crystal clear pitch, which is so necessary for my own fulfillment as a musical person. I think my favorite Mitch solo is “Find You”, which as embarrassing and OCD as this is, I could listen to over and over again until I’m dead! I love the “90’s Dance Medley” too, because you get to sing lower than you usually do, and yet you also show how effortlessly you can flip from lows to highs just in that one medley. It’s very fulfilling to a singer to get to hear that kind of virtuosity in singing. I write Contemporary Christian music...I’ve been blessed to have 10 albums under my belt where I wrote most of the songs, did all the vocal arrangements, and sang most of the female solos, but perfection eludes me. I work with mostly amateur singers and have been found in empty rooms, banging my head against the wall in frustration over the bad notes I and I alone always seem to hear. Pentatonix takes me to a place I’ve never been but have always wanted to be: right in the center of compelling, musical harmonies and perfect pitch.
Can I mention that Evan Duffy is also REALLY good? His playing is PERFECT! I loved Mitch also by the way ;)
