Hey everyone,
So this track was by far the most requested in the history of my channel thus far. To me, it's a masterpiece of electronic music, and I truly wanted to do it justice. I hope I have. In this arrangement I tried to stay true to the original piece while also adding some of my own flair to it. I think the end result is a nice balance of transcription/arrangement. Also, the rhythmic content in this thing is ridiculous... such great writing. I hope you enjoy :)

Imagine time traveling back and playing it for Mozart
11 years now.
@slater2931 more like 15 years old. It came out in 2009 if I remember correctly.

Strobe is actually one of the most beautiful songs ever created, It's the perfect mix of warm and calm with a very slow build up.
My husband and I, on our first camping trip, sat up at night in front of embers and watching the stars in Algonquin park, we'd smoked a bowl. He introduced me to this song for the first time. I sat there for what felt like forever on the rollercoaster that is this song, one earphone in my ear and the other in his - staring at the brilliant, unclouded majesty of space. I still feel it in my stomach when I listen.
I’d say parts are very intense as well and just powerful
Bro I swear I have an emotional reaction every time I hear Strobe..
Check out Jon Gomm - Passion Flower
I agree. I can't say it starts sad but it feels that way. All is over ... Then, the hope comes back and makes you feel respect for what was lost because life moves on and we survive. I had a drink. Sorry.
Let’s be honest, Jesse Eisenberg absolutely killed it there
🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂
🤣
More like Andy Samberg lol
Oh noooo
You know sh*t is about to escalate quickly when a pianist hunches like that.
Well done
This version really shows the depth of Deadmau5's melodies, he is more than just a DJ. Great performance by Evan!
Calling the guy who produced the org track a dj, and calling a guy who plays it back the "talentful der guy" lol
Well to be fair, deadmau5 is a producer. As far as EDM production goes, there are many tools like arpeggiators, randomizers, delays, etc that can really aid in the creation of a track. So is deadmau5 more than just a DJ? Yes, but he's no composer either. He has an artistic mind and a great set of ears, but in this case that mainly aids in the mixing/mastering process, moreso than the creative process. He uses a chain of analog modular synthesis, as well as a chain of DAW tools to create.
+Electric Ocean Games yeah keep repeating that to yourself . Good luck. No matter what tools and DAWs you use, armony is armony. It cant be faked, and if you know how to use it, then my friend you are a composer.
+Electric Ocean Games lol stfu
+Electric Ocean Games You have no fucking clue.
Hey, Evan. I first saw your video back in 2013 whe I was obssessed with the original song. Those were such different times. So much has changed since then. My parents used to have a piano at home and I remember listening to your cover for hours straight and trying to reproduce it. I even recorded my own (very poor) version of it. I moved out, my parents and I don't see or speak in a long, long time, and I never had the chance to play the piano again untill this year when I'm finally buying my own. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that after all these years, here I am again. Somehow, you cover has inspired me in ways I can't even explain and whenever I want to remember happier days I listen to your version of Strobe and it helps me get better :)
Ooof sad story its great to know how to play an instrument, well done
@@aqw8981 I'm proud of you!
Way to go. Hope everything turns out great for you!
Nice story !! Love this tune and version
Lost my wife and daughter.. was alone in the home my world gone .. drunk crying .. this song came on .. think I was one of the first to view it . .. hard to talk about why this hit me so hard.. you hear about how a song can move you... only had my best friend left who had the same name as my daughter.. saved my life and helped my find a way to live.. and then he died of sudden leukemia on the anniversary of losing my family...
Life is hard and unfair.. dont know how I keep going..
Small things that give me hope is the beauty that lies within each of us if only we can be brave enough to choose.
Thank you Evan. Touched my heart and gave me some peace when all was lost . X
So sad bro, I can't imagine how you feel now. Is hard to believe that life is good when these things happen. I hope you get better. But don't give up, take care of yourself, you will find happiness and joy again 🥺✌️
omg man i'm gonna pray for you it's terrible what's happening to you hope you will find a way to enjoy life again
Your post made me tear up
Hello bro, i'm very sorry for your lost and i'm hopping that you being fine. Read your comment while listen the music just touch so hard my heart. Things can be very hard, but i expect thar you find happines and love again. You wife and daughter will be alwais with you. Be fine!
Stay strong brother. I hope you will find some peace soon. So sorry. Thanks for sharing. This puts everything in perspective.
amongst the other 10,703 comments I wanted to say how much this cover has meant to me in the last 7 or 8 years or thereabouts, I come back and listen to it all the time. I am so weirdly grateful, and I wish you all the best in 2023, Evan
After 14 long years on the internet, I've just decided that this is my absolute favourite video ever.
Bruh if this is your absolute favorite video I wouldn't wanna be in your shoes
Isn't it great to discover something that really moves you? Deadmau5 is amazing and Evan Duffy covers Strobe Brilliantly!
You must see dancing triangle that will change your mind
Cheers brother. These people must've never had the opportunity to see him live or know the passion in the song itself or feel the emotion evan is using to project it to us. I love this cover soooo much.
You haven't seen Creed Shreds then.
This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard in my life
Good, but Erik Satie, Maurice Ravel, Sergei Rachmaninoff ... have created much much more beautiful pieces.
Listen and raise your expectation of what is MOST beautiful.
(i didn't mention Mozart, Beethoven and the other Gods because it's too obvious)
Don't forget Chilly Gonzales and Ludovico Einaudi
I feel like what is "most" beautiful is incredibly subjective.
Good, but [name drop],[name drop],[name drop] ... have created much much more beautiful pieces.
Listen and raise you expectation of what is MOST beautiful (in order to have arbitrary 'good' taste in music like I do).
(can't mention too popular giants of the past as that would detract from my excellent and mature taste in music)
Ever hear of the word; "Preference"?
Coming back here after these eight long years. Saved this to my “old memories and things to feel” playlist. Thank you for painting a chapter to the soundtrack of my life, enabling me to drop right back into memories at the sound of your keys, and giving me more reason to be inspired when I feel stuck in a rut. Hope you’re doing well after all this time Evan.
Meaningful
Would you mind sharing that playlist?
Couldn't put it better myself!
Deadmau5 Strobe is lowkey one of the most beautiful pieces about love, how it provides you with undertones of joy and happiness as you progress, constantly wanting more than what is given but you must force a sense of appreciation, taking it for granted might choke the relationship ruining the journey that was paved for you, to pace and to appreciate and to love what is in front of you, allowing you to flourish into something more after teetering over the edge of an almost unbearable wait. The strobing rhythm of ones breathing and heartbeat, steady and consistent, with the one.
I feel as if the audience at a classical recital would believe this to be beautiful, not knowing it's origins. That puts a smile on my face.
IMO the sound is too "pop"-y and a bit repititive but it's still wonderful
That is actually so true :)
Zach Martin I love to show these videos to all my friends who say "Dubstep" (they classify all of EDM in that one genre) is shit and show them how much that music has taste, it's just expressed with different methods (different instruments, if you can call them that).
vinesthemonkey If he just played the first half of the song, it wouldn't sound too pop-y.
I true music enthusiast would find it's origins beautiful as well as any variation.
I love how the piano brings out the true beauty of this song and puts it in a way EVERY person of any age and culture can enjoy. Wow dude
Another year, I've returned, I've cried again. What an amazing morning to be alive. If you're reading this, stay safe and find the beauty in this world we currently live in.
❤️
Thank you ❤️
I honestly think that this “video” has had more impact on me than anything else ive ever seen, and i think that no one has been effected as much as me by this. Ive been listening to this consistently for 8years, I literally learned to play piano because of this video. Ive been through 8 states and now hawaii, 8 years, 4 jobs, highschool, college, 4 girlfriends, and a marriage with this song always in the front of my head. Evan Duffy, i want you to know that what you did here was not just make a few bucks or learn a cool song, but changed my life. @evanduffy

i always thought that electronic and classical music have much more things in common than most of the people may think
+federico giordano electronic music requires a very high skill level to actually communicate music. otherwise its just some mediocre beat leading to an easy to make "dope" beat drop. same goes to classical music, it requires a high skill level to make and it requires a high skill level of understanding to actually appreciate it!
+Randy Abbassi easy to make drop, haha yeah maybe if you use presets xD
+B. Tickles Compose a drop is easy. Compose good electronic music that just doesn't go for a drop is a challenge.
+federico giordano composition wise electronic music and classical music are nothing alike.....
Choruseffect it depends by the kind of electronic music and classical music of course but try to hear:
tycho - dye
or something by Ludovico Einaudi
I was here 11 years ago when Evan released this... And this still gives me chills like I was hearing for the 1st time
Bro still makes me cry. Not tears of sadness. But tears that all those times happened. Wouldn’t trade them for anytime. Miss you Brett.
Bravo to you sir. Strobe is my favorite Deadmau5 song and you just made it a classical masterpiece. This will go down history.
Your profile picture is like if Monokuma had a wolf son
Imagine if he had played this in front of an audience during the 1800s!
He would have been called crazy and probably murdered.
Well 50 percent chances are he'll just get rejected by the audience and the rest of the probability is he's gonna become the Mozart of their time
@@hecticbeatzz5628 nah, thats the middle ages. Not the renaissance or the industrial revolution
Arkelio Sepia Way too repetitve and simple to interest audiences back then
@Badger0fDeath Chill dude, it was a joke. I'm not historically illiterate.
Every couple years, the algorithm brings this masterpiece back to my homepage and I always greatly appreciate this wonderful masterpiece and it also reminds me that Deadmau5 is truly a marvelous composer.
dude this is so impressive how well he played this because he's playing in thirds that interlock so he has to constantly syncopate himself with uneven notes at 128bpm, huge props dude

first part - Something bad and sad happened in life.
second part - Everything starts again, another chance, its becoming a great life.

It's sad that most people only listen to the last half... The beginning is so beautifully played, and has just everything you need to know why you came for the whole song. Without it just sounds like a piano cover of the song, when it's *more* than a piano cover. If people have the time, I would advice you to listen to the whole piece, if you can.

This piece of music might actually be timeless. Imagine if someone 500 years ago played this, what would the towns reaction be? What would for example Mozart’s reaction be? This is just incredible
Might be? Strobe is absolutely timeless, which is unheard of for music theses days.
I imagine Mozart would be mesmerized hearing this :)
@@galex2000 hahahahaaaaa
I think Mozart might not have liked it that much because of the heavy use of pure fifths / power chords in the left hand and no modulation of the harmonic key, that wasn't seen as very desirable in that time (for us it's very standard). But he'd probably find it very interesting. I think later composers (maybe Bartok, Satie, Ravel, Debussy) would appreciate it though, they might have even written variations on it

The first time I heard Strobe was on the for lack of a better name album. I was in bed about 11pm at night, drifting off to sleep. Then the greatest dance song of all time kicked in. That drop, just dropped and I lost my shit. I listened to it like 10 times. What a song, a total masterpiece. And I absolutely love this version, found it ten years ago and I always come back.

I always feel strobe is matching my life story. The start is perfectly telling the sad, violent and abused time of my life. Then the raging addiction to every drug i could find and all the times i almost died of OD or suicide. Oh my god is this incredible. This couldn't have been better executed. I would argue that this cover stirs more emotion than the original.
I agree that it definitely is more emotional than the original song. Better? No, but more emotional. Piano resonates in a deep way, especially melodic and soulful playing whereas EDM has an artificiality to it.
Jake Peralta from brooklyn 99 plays piano really well, congrats jake. Big fan here.
