The Nirvana and Killing Joke both ripped off "The Damned" song 'Life Goes On'. Never a more clear line of Punk to Post-punk to Grunge. All 3 bands are excellent.
Most modern songs are ripoffs of better music from the past. It's either lazy writing or a sincere homage by fans turn musicians or the writers think modern fans don't know the original version and can pass it off as new. Sometimes nice to hear a modern take on an old sing. Sometimes it sounds better and sometimes it reminds you of a song you once forgot and brings you back to that song. Right or wrong when you copy old music the orginal artists deserves compensation and recognition.
If you listen to it from the beginning, the Australian song starts out very similarly, especially the rhythm guitar part. Axl’s vocal track also matches up fairly well in both tempo & tone. Not as bad as the Kinks rip-offs, or Avril Lavigne ripping off multiple bands on “Girlfriend,” but Axl was definitely “inspired” on SCOM.
I would add the Rolling Stones' hit "Emotional Rescue" to the Robin Thicke one. Rod Stewart sued a rap band in the 1980s for using one of his songs without paying royalties. Stewart, in turn, was sued for plagiarism for his hit "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy".
