That braided line is something else! I got a spinning reel for Christmas one year and it came with some light braided line, I think it is 17 lb, and I have pulled up clusters of oysters that would have humbled even heavier monofilament (from experience)
Been fishing since a kid back in the 60s & though we didn't have all we have these days you make valid points. One thing i learned & all anglers that do fish from the bank should always take your time when approaching the edges as bass like any fish can since your footsteps if you go clunking up to the bank which will only spook any fish near there. Seems silly but it is true plus if they see your shadow, it's about the same deal. Sneak up don't stomp up. I do Farm Pond fish a lot but i spend most of my time in my fishing kayak on the rivers & reservoirs. 🐟
Started fishing in late may. So I’m like 3.5 months in. While I’ve only caught 25 bass since then I’ve f’d up a shit ton lol and still got a lot to learn. Couple things I learned so far. Mono and floro definitely don’t cast as far, braid with a leader is definitely worth learning how to tie. I have two baitcasters 1 medium and one medium heavy. A lot of UA-camrs say get a MH to start but I’ve returned atleast 4 rods and the medium power rod became my all around rod. When going for the hook set sometimes the MH is too stiff in my opinion (could be drag or hook set timing)..And last I’ve if your starting out just getting a baitcaster reel the abu Garcia black max for the price point has been my go to reel. Oh and if your bank fishing around trees or under them or in between em, 6’6 rod has kinda been the sweet spot. Anyways Just subbed my dude great video 🫡
Thanks for subbing brother 💯👊🏾 Don’t sleep on the MH. I tend to use my mh way more than my medium. I tend to fish many reaction baits and use my rods to pop some lures out of grass to force a big bite. I throw many jigs, chatterbaits, traps, smaller multi jointed Swimbaits, and other shallow crankbaits. I use my medium or spinning combo for T-rigs, soft paddle tail Swimbaits, and weightless T-rigs but personally I stick to my jig rod because everybody in my area throw the same thing, which is a T-rig so I like to go with something different. When choosing a mh be sure to get one with a fast action tip. They have a parabolic bend, they have way better hookup ratios especially with trebles. I don’t think they’re going to be many bank fishing situations where you need a super stiff rod. You usually want a little bit of give in the rod tip to help with hooksets I use Duckett fishing rods and they all have a parabolic bend and most have micro guides, which help you get the furthest casting distance out of your baits with just flourocarbon. They’re also super sensitive with the halo sanded material they’re made from. I put a few guys on them and now they have a whole set of duckett rods because they like em. If you just so happen to decide to want to try one, feel free to use my code “BFV10” and save a few bucks and it’ll support the channel. Tight lines brother!💯🤝🏾🎣 P.S I was fishing with them long before I was sponsored by them. That’s actually how I ended up getting sponsored
Great video ,very informative . Braid on a spinning reel will change your life of you haven't tried it . And you can never go back . The thin diameter give you better control and sensitivity .
I always melt my tag line to make it as short as possible and also to lock in the knot because the melted end will be too large to slip through. especially using a mono leader
Pretty solid. One thing I’d add, on windy days it’s ok to go a lil heavier to cut the wind and combat the wind current in the water. Other than that 3/16 to a quarter is GOLDEN!
Born and raised in South Florida and I've always been of the mindset of as lightweight gear as possible. Hell, even snook fishing I rarely use anything heavier than 10lb braid (with 20lb flouro as the heaviest leader I'll use). For bass and freshwater I rarely use heavier than 5lb braid (my left arm is paralyzed so I only use spinning reels, I still have a couple good baitcasters, well they were good 20+ years ago before my arm was paralyzed hahaha everything has improved a lot since then, just in case I figure out a decent way to use a baitcaster with 1 hand that will work better and easier than a spinning reel). I'll even use tiny split shot weights just to help get swim baits a little lower in the water, but generally I don't use any weights. I fish like a cook, low and slow: low in weight, low in speed.
new fisherman here, I'm trying to make sure I got all my lure weights right since when I started buying I just went by size of the hooks on the lures to catch the right size fish (just some small fish in a local lake/pond) for catch and release and was wondering other than eventually wearing out your rod and snapping it or not getting the right cast distance, how crucial is it to use the right lure weight? also didn't even think about how tungsten weights would be smaller since the metal is denser than lead - glad you mentioned that, I wouldn't have even though of a reason to spend more money on tungsten but now that's a legit reason.
I was going to touch up on that in the next video to this series. Your rod tells you what weight you should be throwing on it. Lighter powered rods are usually for lighter lures and heavier powered rods are for heavier lures. It’s essential to stay within the range of weight specs to maximize casting distance. This also helps with the technique of the presentation as well. For example, a medium heavy, fast action rod, is generally made to throw 1/4oz- 3/8oz lures. Many jigs range from this weight range so I use medium heavy for my jigs, chatterbaits, and spinnerbaits. By using the medium heavy rod with these lures I get the maximum casting distance and I have backbone power to help me rip these lures through grass or to pull a bass from cover if needed. When fishing jigs I’m mostly throwing them around structure or grass so it’s crucial to have the extra backbone strength. Your lighter power rods such as your medium will help you throw light lures just as far as your heavier lures. You can throw a weightless senko just as far as someone with a 1/4oz jig as long as your using the appropriate rod I hope this helps. I tried to type it up the best way I could P.S.- tungsten is also more sensitive to bottom composition and makes a bit more noise on the bottom to help bass find it
Never thought about trimming the skirts on my jigs, you do the same for spinner/chatter baits ? I need to up my swim jig arsenal they sound killer for pond bass!
I will start adding that litre. Not gonna lie dont have my Ls been fishing same spot for past two years. But its ok very difficult pond to fish in and practice makes perfect. Braid Braid Braid!!!
@@BankFishVince awsome man thank you. I've been learning alot from you. Love that you provide advice for the bank angelor. It's hard to learn from people on boats because their water depths are different and they obviously have an advantage. Great work man!
Lots of great info but still fishing gear is meant to catch fishermen not fish the original rig was a stick a piece of string and a piece of wire fish done care when there hungry 😊
Definitely agree 💯 when they’re hungry enough they’ll bite anything. But there are times when we like to maximize effectiveness when the bass are Lethargic and not willing to bite as much to improve fish our fish catching rate
Bass aren’t always looking directly at your mainline. Depending on how they’re positioned on a piece of structure or cover sometimes all they can really see is the bait. Water clarity and cloud cover also plays a role in how visible your line is underwater
Appreciate that just got my hands on some nice braided line and was using mono and i can definitely feel the difference. Gotta try the fluorescent soon 🫡🫡🎣🎣
Heck yea bro. You won’t regret it. Don’t forget to use a flourocarbon leader if you want to maximize your fish catches 💯🤝🏾 I keep it simple with the double uni knot

One tip that helped me out a lot is being stealky when walking the bank. You don’t realize how many fish you scare right off the bank

That lighter weight or weightless where itrs rlly pressured works

Definitely gotta give the braid to leader a try! One of the best decisions I ever made
I have to use braid
I killed it with a black rooster tail today. I think i found my new lure of year. Im nominating the rooster tail.
Good ole classic 😎
What the heaviest size lure weight should a bank fisherman throw ?
How deep are your ponds?
@@BankFishVince 9ft
The heaviest I would go up to is a 3/8oz but will downsize to a 1/oz if needed
can you link the video you referenced about the weights underwater?
If was referring to the different lines and underwater visibility

Here's my tip when tying on . After cutting tag off , take a Bic lighter and melt the tip of the tag and not touch the not or lead line .
Cutters are cheap, accurate, and don't run out of fuel or fail in high winds.
