Agreed. At first I thought the interviewer was just full of crap and had never actually watched the show but he was just being patient and waited to correct Mr Key. It made me realize it's better to not interrupt when the interviewee is still delivering good material even when it's the wrong answer.
My son was dating a girl named Jacqueline last year. My wife and I always referred to her as Jay-Quellin when she wasn't around, and then couldn't keep a straight face when she was...
As a real Block-eh (Blake) I can remember the first day someone called me Block-eh, I was like WTF? Not a day goes by without someone calling me Block-eh. Love it.
As he was telling the story of the East-West All Star sketch, I just figured it would transition to “so then we decided to try the opposite and do a sketch where a guy used to teaching a bunch of kids with names like D’Brickashaw couldn’t pronounce names like Aaron and Blake.” 😊
My family loves it. I grew up in East Texas in the 90's, with all my black classmates calling me A-ruhn, so I was kinda thrown by the A-A-Ron. I embrace it now.
Very few things are exactly as funny every time you see them as they were the first time you saw them. Mr. Garvey and the East/West bowl are two of those. They will never get old.
@@bryansmith844 It's better than that. His name is Ladd McConky, which of course sounds just like McHonky. In the running for the whitest name of all time.
Props to Keegan for giving credit where it was due. Feels like a lot of guys have such an ego theyd try to take credit for writing most of it themselves, or at least saying they wrote half, but Keegan immediately gave Peele and the writers credit. He's got good character.
The Mr. Garvey sketch is brilliant: the script is brilliant, Keegan, as always, is brilliant! But, in all fairness, it's the STUDENTS and their totally believable reactions that MAKE this sketch what it is. With lesser actors, the piece would still be hilarious, but perhaps only conceptually.
In mid 1980s at my HS we had a substitute one day, intelligent thirty something black man that I'd never seen before (maybe a teacher or coach at some nearby school), and surprisingly he really bumbled over the exotic African American names of kids in the class...it was like some weird alternate universe version of the sketch...
Somebody should asked what happened to the Movie - Key & Peele had a full movie green lit of the substitute teacher and they talked about it a ton and said it was what they were working on after Keanu……….and then it was just never heard of again. 😂
I love that so much, "You want to go to War." 🤣 Imagine your substitute teacher jumping to that you offended them so profoundly by pronouncing your own name the way you prefer they challenge you to a duel lol
Thought for sure with mentioning Aaron Rodgers, Rich was going to ask about the hip thrust/football referee sketch that Rodgers actually did in a game.
It seems like the host didn't really get the joke of the sketch. It's not that the teacher is bad with names. It's that he's pronouncing all these traditionally WHITE kid names as if they were BLACK kid names. That's what gives it that extra depth of humor. It's poking fun at the cultural differences in naming. It's the same joke in the East v. West sketch when they cut to "Dan Smith" to contrast with all the other insane names.
Mr. Garvey urbanizing (LOL) the names of everyone and losing his temper was so hilarious! All the football players was also gold. - - Fudge - - Love the Camera guy with the Easy Rig walking in the BG.
Maybe Key is just talking about a different sketch because Rich asked such a awkward, rambling question. "A-a-ron. the teacher that has an interesting sense of names and pronouncing names. We, we, we created maltable drops of A-a-ron where are you and all of that. I, I, I would just love to know the genesis of that set."
At my university course we had a semester focused on indigenous history, and when the teachers were trying to explain to a bunch of white people why pronouncing indigenous names matters they showed the Mr. Garvey sketch. Seeing a Key and Peele sketch used for higher education continues to be one of the most surreal things i've ever experienced, I was dying laughing when I realized when I saw the thumbnail.
I heard the writer came up with the sketch from white teachers getting all the black students names wrong when they were in school. They just flipped it and made it funnier.
I am no an english native and I must admit that I did not understand a word we he answered the first question. Worst, I thought that I totally missed the substitute sketch !
Props to rich for riding with Keegan even tho he answered the wrong question
I was thinking the same thing
Exactly. He’s anticipating a different question, apparently.
Agreed. At first I thought the interviewer was just full of crap and had never actually watched the show but he was just being patient and waited to correct Mr Key. It made me realize it's better to not interrupt when the interviewee is still delivering good material even when it's the wrong answer.
And for Key bringing it around with the A-Aron Rod-gers story.
To Keegan's credit, the question was not properly asked. I was confused by it too.
The kid actors in the Substitute sketch put it over the top. They were all fantastic actors.
100% The deserve a TON of credit for how amazing that sketch is.
The “kid” actors were all 25+ 🤣
Denice
JayKwellin
B-lackay
So glad Keegan misunderstood it, so we can have two great stories instead of one.
The story he told was way more interesting. The real story ended up being, "oh, one of our writers wrote it." lol
As a former substitute teacher:
Best
Sketch
Evah
I think Keegan is just on auto-pilot now from getting asked about the East/West Bowl sketch all week.
I guessed shrooms once he started rambling about the wrong sketch
My son was dating a girl named Jacqueline last year. My wife and I always referred to her as Jay-Quellin when she wasn't around, and then couldn't keep a straight face when she was...
As a retired elementary school teacher, I have to tell you-this skit made me laugh so hard I cried!
As a real Block-eh (Blake) I can remember the first day someone called me Block-eh, I was like WTF? Not a day goes by without someone calling me Block-eh. Love it.
My coworker A-A-Ron would like you to know that he isn’t amused anymore. I would like you to know that I still am 😂
Always glad to meet another Block-eh. But I’ve also got A-A-Ron middle name.
I have a friend that I’ve called Buh-lah-kay for years even though his name is Kenny 🤣
As he was telling the story of the East-West All Star sketch, I just figured it would transition to “so then we decided to try the opposite and do a sketch where a guy used to teaching a bunch of kids with names like D’Brickashaw couldn’t pronounce names like Aaron and Blake.” 😊
Same here
This is so bizarre. I just watched the NBA all star game last night and wondered aloud why some parents named their kids these names.
I swear that's what I thought was happening.
The Mr. Garvey sketch is one of my all time favorites! 😂
My first and middle name is Blake Aaron. My family had way too much fun with this sketch
The substitute teacher skit is one of the best and every now and then I watch it on repeat. I'm just really sorry my name isn't Aaron.
My family loves it. I grew up in East Texas in the 90's, with all my black classmates calling me A-ruhn, so I was kinda thrown by the A-A-Ron. I embrace it now.
Key & Peele actually made me like my name...for once. 😆
One of the great 1970s NFL names was Fair Hooker. Especially when Don Meredith on MNF opined,"I never knew one"
Jordan Peele is so amazing with his writing and acting. Keegan is also so funny and great comic actor. All their sketches were so top-notch.
Very few things are exactly as funny every time you see them as they were the first time you saw them. Mr. Garvey and the East/West bowl are two of those. They will never get old.
Couch Hines will always be his best character.
Two hilarious sketches that will live on forever
Hingle McKringleberry is the GOAT
Thank you for asking him about that sketch! So funny!
I had a student named Aaron and always called him A-a-ron after seeing the substitute sketch!
That was so awkward for about two minutes… 😂😂😂
Cause I don’t play . Substitute Teacher one of my all time fave sketches
"Otis Sistrunk, University of Mars"
Good call! Now we're talking "old school!" That was hilarious when Alex Karras said that on MNF!
"Splendiferous Blarque Skittlefitz, Atlantis High."
Rode through Otis Sistrunk's family home area today...Society Hill (east Macon County), Alabama!😅😅😅
A A Ron and Hingle McKringleberry, all in one segment? Yes please!!
Fudge 😂
I love Jes sika!! That was my favorite name!!
He must love Kool-Aid McKinstry
Or Steele Chambers and Noah Knigga
Chop Robinson and Ladd Mckorky, some good ones in this draft
@@bryansmith844 It's better than that. His name is Ladd McConky, which of course sounds just like McHonky. In the running for the whitest name of all time.
He answered the question with the incorrect backstory, yet in the end it all circled around to make sense. Amazing!
Lmaoo he talking about the wrong sketch
I had a few classes with D’Brickashaw in college. He was probably the smartest guy in both classes. And the best left tackle.
Simply the funniest sketch ever. Great story.
Props to Keegan for giving credit where it was due. Feels like a lot of guys have such an ego theyd try to take credit for writing most of it themselves, or at least saying they wrote half, but Keegan immediately gave Peele and the writers credit. He's got good character.
The kids in the sketch were great

2 great stories for the price of 1
Of cousre I have to watch the sketch again immediately after this.
Keegan is a funny. Love his work.
Every kid with the name Blake should either have it pronounced as Balaky or "Blake?" with the question mark ending. 😄
They should do a basketball version with God Shammgod and Scientific Mapp.
The Coach Hines sketches are my favorites.
Love that character
I was hoping he’d mention the writer was Rich Talarico! I actually designed his website and such a talent obviously
Went to DC public schools and I swear I had this substitute
Key & peele are the Goats 💯
Keegan is Brilliant!!!!!
Oh Rich...if you have to ask about the premise of that sketch we aren't going to tell you😅
In mid 1980s at my HS we had a substitute one day, intelligent thirty something black man that I'd never seen before (maybe a teacher or coach at some nearby school), and surprisingly he really bumbled over the exotic African American names of kids in the class...it was like some weird alternate universe version of the sketch...
One of my fave sketches is Inner City Magic School 😂
And I still laugh at those skits. That's quality.
I’ve always believed that Mr. Garvey was a real person. Somebody had this dude as a substitute teacher and wrote comedy around it.
The East - West coast college sketch is great
Love Keegan. So funny
Somebody should asked what happened to the Movie - Key & Peele had a full movie green lit of the substitute teacher and they talked about it a ton and said it was what they were working on after Keanu……….and then it was just never heard of again. 😂
will never hear the name Aaron the same again after this skit..
I had a shop teacher in Jr. High in the '70s who was not far cry from Mr. Garvey.
He is for real!
And A-A ron is now busy exposing scientology!! Perfect!
I hear this reference all the time…
I worked with a guy named Blake when this sketch came out. A good time was had by all. 😆
But you’re an A-Ayron too aren’t you?
@@leecarney4373 Yes! 😁
Coach Hines is his Goat sketch!!!
That was the impetus fetus for that sketch.
IYKYK
Love this guy!!!
I call everyone “Ah ARON “ now 😂
People better know the East West sketch. So good.
My freshman high school basketball coach pointed like Mr. Garvey 🤣
When highschool football starts again in the fall on Friday night on ESPN watch some of the south Florida schools they all have names like that 😂😂
Shout out to Ms Cadney from Biloxi High School for basically being this teacher for me.
Dan Smith is a BYU legend
I love that so much, "You want to go to War." 🤣 Imagine your substitute teacher jumping to that you offended them so profoundly by pronouncing your own name the way you prefer they challenge you to a duel lol
solid sketch

Wish he'd actually mentioned the writers by name.
Butte Community College. That explains a lot.
The way he messed up the sketch and recovers is king shirt ngl
I honestly thought it was a different and legally distinct version his old Coach Hines bit from MadTV.
You know Anfernee (Penny) Hardaway’s mom was trying to say “Anthony” when the nurse asked her what name she wanted on his birth certificate. 😆
My name is Sean... I get called "Seen" all the time, We all do.
Maybe Key is just talking about a different sketch because Rich asked such a awkward, rambling question. "A-a-ron. the teacher that has an interesting sense of names and pronouncing names. Genius sketch
“You wanna go to war Balakay?…I’m for real,I’m for real!”
Dan Smith. F#@!ing gold.
Keegan is so funny
He’s brilliant lmao
My name will never be the same. 😂
Tee-moh-tee my personal fav
Remember he taught in the inner city!!
The Artist Formerly Known as Mousecop
I go to Butte College. Go Roadrunners!
I went there back in 2001-2002! Go Roadrunners!
I make my predictions on whether a prospect will be good or not based on nothing but their name.

Jackmerius Tacktheratrix!!
Didn't he tell the exact story of the East-West Bowls on the Rich Eisen Show years ago?
I thought it was close to Coach Hines on Mad Tv.
I am no an english native and I must admit that I did not understand a word we he answered the first question. Worst, I thought that I totally missed the substitute sketch !
I hate the teacher sketch so much. And I’m sure everyone knows why.
What's up a-a-ron? 😂
@@Jetsua02no stop. 😭
Settle down Beavis...
You might not like going to war, but going to war likes you, A A Ron.
I love it. And I got the double Balakay A-A-Ron (first name middle name).
For the first half of this clip I thought he had a stroke. Did you not hear him say "A-A-Ron" AND "teacher" in the question?
