It is true that whenever someone talks to us in a regional language that we are not familiar, we tend to respond in Tamil. It is a language that we love and admire ❤
Just to point out that not only Tamil, we watch other language movies too but we do have a soft corner for Tamil. I had a friend who was crazy abut the movie Kathalan and its hero when it came out, while I couldn't understand the appeal of the Prabhudeva, lol. My dad took me to watch Roja a few days before my SSLC exam.
It's quite common for Malayalis to have a basic understanding of Tamil due to the cultural and historical connections between Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Many Malayalis may pick up Tamil words and phrases through exposure to Tamil movies, music, or interactions with Tamil-speaking communities. However, the level of proficiency can vary greatly among individuals.
Malayalis always gave a 10-30 crore easy revenue for good tamil films even though the number of theatres are comparatively very less. This is the first time a Malayalam film got big revenue from tamilnadu, the top grosser before was premam (2.5 cr)

Growing up havent watched much, but once in college and work, there was always a gang of malayalam and telugu folks, so they used to recommend, but with OTT it has exploded like anything. Btw chennai crowd watches all regional movies, and at times the same versions dubbed in different languages too hindi, telugu, malayalam for that matter.
Its so true that we love tamil songs a lot. im a millennial and during my childhood and in the 2000s mostly we all drifted to Tamil cinema and most probably all our earlier crushes would be Danush, Surya and so on. Even if we are not familiar with the movies we knew all the songs. It is very much part of our childhood and identity as much as Malayalam cinema is. which is why when we travel outside of Kerala we feel closer to home with Tamil people away from our home.
Tamil is our Mother..It's a kiss to our Thai Tamil by a Malayali..❤❤❤.😂
1:45 music director sushin shyam predicted it. He is the one who hyped the film in one of his interview.
Happy that atleast now people are celebrating Kamal sir movies and those directors..
The 5 Jewels of the South of India is making waves in world Cinema😊
Malayalis always gave a 10-30 crore easy revenue for good tamil films even though the number of theatres are comparatively very less.
This is the first time a Malayalam film got big revenue from tamilnadu, the top grosser before was premam (2.5 cr)
Good research
Well made video essay
It’s very good to see the love between people of Kerala and tamilnadu.. also only states where Hindi imposition failed badly..
As a 90s kid and malayalee I have no reference to a time in their life when they didn’t watch Tamil movies. My dad who is a huge Rajni fan introduced me to him when I was just 4 years old. Since then I have fell in love with Tamil movies and music. Whether it’s political movies like Nayakan or fresh takes like Kadhal Kondein I have made sure to watch as many as I can. And many of them have had a deep impact in my life. When I look back at phases of my life - I tend to remember most of them through movies and of course many Tamil movies are era defining for me. However it’s refreshing to see Malayalam movies get some love Tamil Nadu. Hope they continues to be loved

I'm a Tamil in love with Malayalam movies, since 80s (Oru CBI dairy kurippu). It's still continuing. The appeal to me is their realistic stories, screenplay and acting.

THE MALAYALAM INDUSTRY💖
We Malayalees love Tamil movies. I love the smaller story based Tamil Movies. There have been some amazing realistic movies in Tamil. Overall Malayalees watch movies from every language. It is true what Chidambaram said.
After Annyan movie from Vikram, i started to watch tamil movie.
I wondered some movie like Virumandi , pithamahan etc
Tamil industry needs a lot of catching up to do,not just industry Audience too!!
I'm a Tamil and i see people wanting to appreciate and support only mass masala movies not small budget good ones,I see KL people not doing this partiality and appreciating good films

Firstly we need to break the sterotype that Tamils are flim crazy. Thats simply not true, many of us hardly go to the cinema, & if we do its mainly for big movies. Media has painted a very wrong pic of TN. There are many Tamils who dislike flim industry & are multilingual. So many of us speak some Telegu & learn Hindi.

No they just want old time to come back, they are criticising loopholes in their industry and want their industry to grow nothing more
Criticism is needed if you want better cinema
The problem now is, they're ignoring actually good low budget Tamil films while criticising the yet to release start films. Lover and J.Baby were recent Tamil films that deserved more attention. But they were ignored in favour of thrashing Tamil cinema compared to Malayalam cinema @@sr687

Tamil cinema is 70% masala garbage and 30% great stuff. In Malayalam it is the other way around. Telugu cinema is 100% garbage

We Malayalis have an evolved culture for Tamil movies, we would watch any Tamil movie for fun. In fact, any movie with original audio, so most of us talk decent Tamil because of Tamil movie influence. If the content is worth it, any movie will be a huge success in Kerala irrespective of language.
We never intend to get clap just by placing a vijay or ajith poster in a scene. Even in premam there is also kanmani anbodu but it was not intention to get claps from a particular audience , we malayalis love all tamil songs so that reference easily worked with malayali audience. But we can understand not a single malayalam song reference which is other than pistah never gonna work with tamil audience. But always and forever our love for tamil movies and tamil actors will continue as long as we love our own movies and our actors.❤
Also we are so grateful to tamil audience for the love showered for manjummel boys❤
I am a retired pensioner. Friends and relatives of my age group regularly watch Malayalam movies in Netflix or hotstar. We suggest good movies to others and thus many watch Malayalam movies. Popular movies amongst us Kala, Ayappanum koshiyum, Kumbalangi nights, Nanpagal nerathu mayakkam, Driving licence, retta, nayatta, Sudani from Nigeria and many others. I don't remember the title of some good movies I watched. Malayalam film industry is making many good films

The reality is Guna was written by a Seb John and also the cinematographer is Venugopal also from Kerala. The real topic should be the success of the movie when the states comes together
Malayalees are v open minded and believe in brotherhood irrespective of language, religion and caste. Tamils wouldn’t have watched this movie (even if it is great) without the tamil movie tribute. Unlike malayalees. Keralites also gave kanyakumari to TN, also water for TN at the cost of their own lives. This is the sad reality of the world.😢

The decline in Tamil films started when Tamil heros insist on playing larger than life characters. They should do down to earth roles.Directors should learn to make films which has direct connect with the audience.
Decline seriously 2023 belonged to Tamil cinema.

@@user-xs6ev5ff4zMany Tamil movies/actors lack pan indian appeal. They dont even market themselves. Telegu industry has smartened themselves up, read the market & sell with an all India focus. @@couchpotatolazybones8825 Agreed. To an extent our directors are politically motivated and that's why we don't get enough recognition in the north.
Another reason is Telugu commercial cinemas are identical to Bollywood masalas which is why they appeal to North Indian audiences.

Tbh the admiration is mutual. As a Tamilian I love Malayalam films, it started after I watched Premam and increased after I discovered Fahad Fazal. I've now discovered so many amazing Malayalam Actors. I didn't know about Malayalam films making derogatory remarks about Tamilians, probably because I didn't watch any earlier but I do remember Tamil films making insensitive remarks towards malayalies, especially women. This has certainly changed in the last 10 years. There is a lot of mutual respect, love and admiration between the 2 industries and state. Politically as well (in my opinion) the 2 states are quite similar when compared to the rest of India.. this may be correlated by the level of education / literacy in the 2 states.
Malayalam industry makes movie for the content and it has ife ....
After premam i have watched 100's of movies in Malayalam
A love from TN to Kerala
Pls ! Malayalam movies have mostly been on low budget, but the story, script, the brilliance of actors ( even that of background actors like rajamouli noted) , the technichians!
Honestly we don’t watch a lot of tamil movies unless its good ( no not interested in the star and happy to call out a bad movie) .
We also love lots of tamil movies for the content not the stars .
its an insult to the makers of those films tht you rubbing it up to the inspirations rather than giving the makers its due credit. btw malayalam film industry was known for quality films from olden days as well

It was mostly used in the 1980s and 1990s as a derogatory term in Kerala for a poor black labourer from Tamil Nadu but times have changed now you will not hear anyone speaking crap about Tamil people the Malaylees understood that Tamil Nadu is much more richer and Industrialised and their love for language, culture and land is much more than anything we are and were..
