Tovino's attempt to test himself as an actor is commendable. The answer to Tovino's last question is exactly what any Malayali would want to say. He states that English is another language and ultimately cinema speaks it. 'Minnal Murali' opens the way for cinema in Kerala to become an independent medium beyond time, country and language.

Tovino's answer on English shaming deserves an award.I love him more for his personality than acting and looks. Usually his interviews in malayalam are fun to watch he has an excellent humor sense and also is very clear and crisp in his words. Its unfortunate for people who don't know malayalam to be not able to watch and understand his malayalam interviews.
Also it takes a lot of guts to talk about insecurities specifically about english speaking since it is considered as a big deal in india and is made fun of

Who cares if some folks from Malayalam film industry don't speak fluent English.As a Tamilian living in Kerala I can vouch that they make the best films in India and that is what really matters.
Guru somasundaram and tovino thomas in one movie is a treat to watch. After watching Joker and Aaranya kandam, i fell in love with guru somasundaram. Tamil cinema hardly utilized this gem. Hope he will get a breakthru after this film. As usual, Tovino is dashing in his superhero outfit. Sensible interview. We are so blessed to be in this era to experience good movies transcending language and national barriers. Back then, indian films were tagged under one name "Bollywood". Now, it is slowing changing, thanks to these efficient technologies.

This would have been one of the best experiences Anupama probably had, as an interviewer. She has interviewed several stars as well as star kids, but not any small town but real super heroes like Tovino and Basil. Really loved the interview as well as the way Anupama took it forward elegantly as usual. Kudos
One thing I like about south actors is they are proud of speaking in their mother tongue. I wish Hindi film industry people could also speak Hindi in their interviews. All Hindi industry interviews are in English. People who act in Hindi movies themselves cannot speak good Hindi. I also wonder how many people lost the opportunity to act in films in Hindi cinema just because they couldn't speak English.
It goes to show how people like Nawazuddin Siqqiue and Pankaj Tripathi have emerged. All credits to Anurag Kashyap. We could get many such actors who are from the North but unfortunately they don't speak great English for Bollywood to approach them. It's so difficult for a person who doesn't know English to break into Hindi cinema.
It's fine to use any language they prefer! You and me are no one to judge them as a person, their life and emotions outside the screen should be respected!!

Both Tovinos and Basils English is perfect. No wrong grammar,right choice of words and clear communication of ideas . Yes they do have a mother tongue influence in the speech. (They don't roll their tongue and fake an accent and don't use Englidh fillers )Also, If written down, this would be more eloquent than most Bollywood and other woods..

@@cryptovlogger9142 He is not average bro, he is one of the most hardworking actor in the malayalam industry right now. You might be guessing how? . He always try to bring out his different faces. He usually do not use stunt doubles for his movies.
Have you watched Kala? Have you seen the effort he has put in for that character? He had to put up weight, The fight sequences were surreal. He was injured and was in ICU due to internal bleeding.
Have you watched Edakkadu batallion? He had minor burns in the finale scene, because he chose to do the fire scene without a stunt double.
Have you watched Godha? He did a 6 month gusthy (wrestling) training just for a 3 minute shot because he wanted it to be perfect and 1 year gym training for the final 10 minute scene.
Now just think about the effort needed for minnal murali. Basil has stated in an interview that there is a scene in MM where he hangs by the bridge with a small girl without any rope. They could have done it with VFX, but tovino said he will do it himself and put himself in danger. Basil in multiple interviews told that Tovino has almost saved 20 lakhs in scenes requiring VFX. He learned many skills by himself.
He is still new to the industry, give him time. I bet he will bring up a good reputation to himself and to the mollywood industry.
Now tell me, do you think he don't deserve a big fan base? People love him because he is genuine and has a big passion towards films, especially malayalam movies. In many interviews he said that he wanted malayalam industry to be known worldwide. He had a good stable job and could have lived happily but he chose not to. He quit the job, and wanted to follow his passion, How many actors are in our industry like that? A few.

Language is just another medium not the soul. Rightly placed with good examples! Good one for those who feel shy on the language they speak and fall back in there career.
I like how Anupama asks good questions. Even the very last one was a well-posed question without any derogatory tone. Tbh, many south Indians (including me) are not too fluent in speaking "charming English". So it kind of restricts the flow of ideas when we use English as the medium. However, Anupama's point is valid, and maybe with time, language barriers thin. Also, it is important to not sound rude when you use a 3rd language. So polishing the tone is important if you don't want to come across arrogant.
i think south indian english is way better than north indians which get mixed with hindi accent

Wow, so bowled over by the simplicity & honesty of both Tovino & Basil...They have their priorities right & that's filmmaking & 'not' fake image building....Malyalam industry is the best coz they 'Respect' their technicians,writers,actors & the entire team equally & know the value of team work
