    nice. however if u r not aware then..... bf goodrich rubbers are such, needs reasonably a good amount of kms on and off to use preferably a gravel terrain and when u drive on it, traction heats up the rubber and retain its softness so that in a long run the rubber doesnt become hard. this is how bfgr are maintained in jeeps by most of the jk enthusiasists. even in desert countries othen than dune drives, they take the jeeps with bfgr to water reservoirs where the gravel terrain is experienced. it may be too early to get a feel of it and my point is not as a thumb rule, but it has sense and impact when u drive a jeep with bfgr over a decade

    Hey Abhinav,really missed the informative videos you put out,and excited for what's ahead.
    That being said,I've got some doubts and questions regarding the ride quality as of now,the fuel economy and the throttle response. as you have installed the KO2s which weigh around 25 kilos per tire and add to it the weight of the steelies(25 per wheel;; overall weight around 200 kilos);compared to the stock wheel setup on the thar which weighs in at around 96 kilos(17 kilos for each tire and 7 kilos for each wheel) you have added around 104 kilos to the unsprung mass of your car. From the reading that I did online,the more unsprung mass a car has,the bumpier the ride is,and since because weight has been added,obviously more strain on the engine,hence I believe a weaker throttle response and poorer fuel economy. It'd be great if you'd shed some light on these factors in one of your future videos and what you'd be doing to counter these negatives.
    well that's a long comment,hope you respond,cheers!!

    • @abhinavbhatt
      @abhinavbhatt  3 роки тому +5

      I drove it today at 70-80 kmph to Gurgaon from Delhi on the nice expressway we have. The meter showed 18.1 kmpl average fuel economy. On my Patiala trip, I got 16ish. Again, meter reading. Now, the meter would be slightly off since the diameter of the tyre is bigger, but even if I get 12 in the city, it is fine.
      The tyre is not 25 kilos on its own. Maybe 16-17 kg. Yes, unsprung mass has gone up a lot, but I am running 26 PSI and there is night and day difference between the ride of the stock and this car. This is sure footed, planted, and a lot more confident to drive. The tyre has a very strong sidewall and so can run lower pressures with ease.
      I don't care about the throttle response (which has not been affected) - if I want a faster car, I have my petrol cars. And if I still want to go faster, I would be on my bikes.
      Cheers

    What is the reason behind using -30 offset wheels? My understanding is that wider track of a vehicle is better for center of gravity, which allows for more load(eg. tent) on top of the car. Is my understanding correct? Are there any other advantages of a wider track?

    7:47 correction: it gives you more stability on slanted terrains and better grip on rocky terrain as sides are equally important
    12:10 to calcuate diameter of the tyre always use this formula : 2 X (75% of 265 * 0.03937) + 16 = 31.65 inches, so your tyre height is 31.65 inches, rest is just air, don't depend on air, height of tyre can be changed depending on pressure, to use a constant, remember the formula, you actually never use the height as a parameter when talking about tyres though due to the variance and high number of external factors

      @@kotimoto yeah i think the thar can easily take that much additional weight. But it will surely take a toll on mileage.

    Awesome. What is the difference in weight of each tyre with steel rim between the original and the new? Will there be additional strain on the transmission and engine etc?

      No clue. Zero negative impact in the drive.

    What if one wants to retain the stock alloys with these tyres? Is the price going to be the same?

      You'll have to get 18 inch tyres then.

    There are still confusions about offsets . Positive. Zero. Negative... The rims you are running on now is not a negative rim.. it is a positive rim.. As the offset are calculated from the centre point of the rims width.. if the hub fitment comes at the centre which is at 4inch from both side it is Zero offset .... If it comes infront of the Centre it is positive and vice versa.... the rims you put on now have an offset of around 20mm from the centre point..... And it is a positive offset rims. If it was negative offset rims the wheel would've come out much more. Anyway nice video and good luck with the new setup....

    It really looks great. I am always inclined towards the wheels with greater offset. Quick question, are there any drawbacks of the wheels in long term with extreme offset.

      They do put additional stress on the suspension components, so wear and tear would be higher

    Great mods on the Thar, just wanted to know of there will be an issue with the heavier rim on the tailgate. Also if you change the front bumper it won't mess with these new tyres right.

    • @abhinavbhatt
      @abhinavbhatt  3 роки тому +1

      I may need a separate spare tyre carrier. Front metal bumper should have clearance.
