We lived in Ketchikan Alaska . We used rain water from our rough. We never got sick from yet. Also I loved how it made my hair feel. Loved it. We also drank rain water.
Build your own door, it will most likely (going on all you have built in the past) look better than anything you can buy! Tanks full??? that's awesome! You know that means you should go ahead nd add another tank, or... two more !!
Guys, just a heads up. I live in Hawaii, on the big Island. My family has collected and drank rain water for years. We have two catchment tanks with liners for a total of 17500 gallons. Our water is pumped through two cardon string filters and a UV sterilizer. No worries, of course we are 2500 miles from anybody with the cleanest air there is.
Glad to hear the results of the water testing. Just goes to show that in the build Spencer did well with his build. Love how the kids interact with each other and sorry to hear about the door. They say three is a charm and hope and pray that is what happens. Also the ceiling studs job looks nice and well thought out. Until the next time have a good week.
My husband & I have well water. We have a water softener & a tank to take out the high iron content. I won't drink any other water but ours. We have to watch what we consume now days!!

So sorry about the door situation. How frustrating! That is pretty interesting about the national average of drinking water quality. Makes you want to filter every faucet in your home.
Back in 1962 my dad and his two brothers built each others homes next door to each other. All 3 had dug an artesian well for each of the 3 houses. Now comes 2008 and our town built half million dollar mansions around us. To run pipes up to my house, the water department said my dad paid for the pipes years ago. Stupid me, I agreed to hook up to town water cap my artesian well and now in May 2023 I'm sorry I ever listened to the water department and should have kept my well. My well water was always crystal clear and tasted 100% better than the town water which gets bacteria almost every summer, sometimes cloudy and never as clean as my Artesian well water was.
I always look forward to your videos. Of all the couples building their dream homes, you two seem the happiest. When you both look at each other, your eyes smile. Never forget that feeling your children benefit greatly.
Since I live in NYC Manhattan, water quality is always a matter of concern. I did take notice of the continued rain during early to late spring on your property, so thanks for letting us know of your water status, usge, and quality. Love the nice little touch of flowers on the porch. I want to see more of your "little touches." It makes a world of difference. Thank you.
NYC has some of the best water in the US. It's an easy google. It's why their bagels and pizza are so good. I'm surprised you don't already know that. I lived in NYC for years and it was common knowledge.
So know what you mean regarding water quality. Growing up our water came from rain water and the freashwater river. We only had a charcoal filter on it. But the taste....OMG!!! It tastes so amazing, so fresh and clean.. Now living in suburbia, the taste of chlorine and flouride does my head in, and my skin is greatly affected too. I so miss the natural way we got our water. There will always be poolution, no matter where you live though. A lot will actually be in the rain itself, but you guys are doing everything correct, filtering and cleaning the water, so there is nothing to be concerned about. You should be so proud that your children are growing up with the cleanest water available to them, and they learn that water is a precious commodity when things like drought hit. I'm so sorry you've had so much trouble with your door for the cabin! Cross fingers when you order it this time they get it right! Peace and Love from Australia
My husband suffered with severe kidney stones for years. We started collecting rainwater from our metal roof. Its been 20 years now no kidney stones. You have to boil it and then pass through a Brita filter.
@@melaniebeaver2845 Thats a good point to note, that when youre boiling water your losing water so the metals increase in proportion, its not much though(depends how long you boil) and probably not even worth losing the benefits you get from a quick boil like sanitizing the water from bacteria and other chemicals that could boil off like chlorine.
To make the water safe,,, I found a survey done in the 1960s in Europe, They were asking why some wells were always good wells, and other wells were sometimes good, sometimes bad... Cholera being one of the bad... They found two things in all those 'always good' wells. At least one Roman Copper coin, and at least one Roman Silver coin. When I created my rain water capture, I added pieces of pure silver, and some copper rounds... 10 years ago... no problems...
I had my water tested 3 times. Two out of three tests showed that it was indeed water .... who knew 💧💧🙃🤪Take care you two .... your children are growing up fast! All the best🐎
I am on city water. I use a Berkey water purifier. My cost is 2 cents a gallon. It tests exactly what Berkey says it should. I use 2-3 gallons a day. I’m well pleased
Well I wasn't ready for this video to end. Cabin looks good. We want to hear the conversation with the door manufacturing company on Monday. Or Spencer becoming Plant Manager. Enjoy our wonderful weather.
I’m so glad you mentioned about regular city water because we have a water softener in south Florida and it’s the most wonderful thing. Your bathroom doesn’t get soap scum just like your skin doesn’t get that dry soap scum feel you’re just slippery and smooth and your hair is wonderful. I highly recommend a water softener system to everybody.

Just a side note, the kitchen in the opening scene is immaculate. That is a lot of work to prepare a lived in home for filming. How about an orange juice stain on the counter somewhere to make the fest of us feel better. The trace amounts of metal come with the rainwater. It is pollution absorbed into the clouds and returned with the rain. Not an uncommon occurrence especially with areas that burn coal for electricity. Not a real issue unless the start to rise in count.
I think the metals is mainly from the rain water since most the rain is polluted "acid rain" but I think you're going in the right direction with all those filters,God bless❤
We have a 20k gallon rainwater system and we did the same test you guys did. We also have most of the same filter components as you, spin down filter, 5 micron, pelican carbon filter and UV light. We have all pvc and pex A except for the pump, check valve etc but, we do have a 20k gallon tank with a liner in it. Our score was 56 which is 2 points below national average but 10 points above the Oklahoma average. We did our test 2 months after the system was setup and we are going to do another test in a year to see if it improves. The water is safe and tastes great, I just thought like you guys did that it would be more pristine. FYI we also have a new 300' well that we use for everything outside the house and it only came in at 37 which is below the Oklahoma average. I highly suggest viewers getting your water source tested no matter where you get water from.
I got my water tested once. After sticker shock of paying the bill, I decided that buying and maintaining a reverse osmosis filter was cheaper than getting annual water testing done. Also for stuff like coliform testing, you've got to transport your water to a lab within 24 hours for the test to be valid. It was still incredibly informative and I was relieved to know I didn't have any heavy metal contamination. But seriously, RO filters have gotten way cheaper than they used to be.
I watched your build, as a builder, I was impressed at the end result, you showed great team work and skills, your parents must be very proud of your achievements.
Love you guys. As usual, you're handling adversity like the champs that you are, with the 3 times is NOT a charm door fiasco. Sometimes these hardware and construction box stores totally miss the mark on quality customer service. I certainly hope you guys are registering complaints with the companies with whom you placed the order. Cabin's looking good.
Since you're drinking rain water, the metal may be coming from power plants and factories. The main cause of mercury content in Florida lakes is due to atmospheric deposition. The exhaust from factories and power plants contains metals which are carried into the atmosphere, then they are released and fall to earth when it rains. These factories are required to scrub their exhaust to get rid of the metals, but it is not 100 percent.Maybe something like that is happening with rain water in your area
Great video guys, you need a control sample/samples. Grab some unfiltered rainwater and grab some city water from a neighbor. Send both in. That will be your comparison/control.
I've been admiring your shipping containers project and indeed.....i've been blowed away for turning the two containers into a cozy house. Chapeau and you've got our deepest respect. You guys are so intelligent and clever and you guys set a good example to all starters. .
Good stuff! Truly! If this cabin is for guests and out of town visitors (friends and family) it will also be an optional space for both kids as they grow older and want to spread out.
I have been brought up on rainwater and that was many years before filters and UV lights, At our new house here in Albertinia we are back on rainwater for 24 months now, again unfiltered and with no problems.
Metal particles always get picked up by rain water on roof and gutters. It worsens over years. If you have the right filtration to reduce, you will be okay. Plastic particles do the same over time. Frustrating door keeps failing. The mfg may not have to tooling to make or the knowledge to make a jig to customize. It all starts with the hole you cut. Enjoy your long weekend.
Ive wondered why you dont have a well for your water. I remember in the past youve almost run out of water. A well would solve all that and not worry about the water sitting in tanks.
What a beautiful spring surrounding time it is😊 your adorable children enjoying it really well and together, so cute❤ and yes your new container is surely becoming a very nice place; you have such a nice land surrounded by beautiful trees and the view from the incide view is certainly a good feeling of being a part of it 💝💫
Seeing your bird feeder, did you know you can order a bird house that you can attach to your window? You can see inside but the birds can't see you. That way the kids can watch the birds build their nest, lay eggs, and see the baby birds grow up after they hatch, and the birds will never know.
I'm a builder from the U.K. I love what you're doing, it's great on so many levels. A quick question, which may lead to a solution: What metals are present in the samples? If your roof is tin, and tin is showing up in the samples.... Likewise for the other components. You can reverse engineer out where the problems come from. I hope you fo,low me. The problems will be worse if your rain is slightly acidic or alkaline. This wil minutely dissove the metals into solution. Unless there is an obvious source from industry. These can be hundreds of miles away, and still effect your water. I hope this may help you. Many thanks for the time you dedicate to UA-cam. We appreciate it. Al, the best from Cornwall England 🙂👍

We've been drinking rainwater from a pond for 22 years. It's great! Pond water systems are common around here where the well water is sulferized, really crappy tasting and hard on plumbing. We have building codes to abide by and our system consists of a floating pond filter (filter 3 feet below the surface) to catch the big stuff, a five micron initial filter and one micron final filters. In addition, thre is a sand filter, a charcoal filter and an iodine injection system that put about .9 ppm iodine into the water just ahead of a pair of 400 gallon "soak" tanks to kill any bacteria. We test the water about every other year and haven't failed a test yet.
"Rainwater samples harvested for drinking from the west part of Hebron (south of West Bank in Palestine), the largest city in the West Bank, were analyzed for the content of different trace heavy metals (Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mo, Ag, Cd, Bi, and Pb) by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). This study was conducted to determine the water quality of harvested rainwater used for drinking of south West Bank (case study, Hebron area). A total of 44 water samples were collected in November 2012 from 44 house cisterns used to collect rainwater from the roofs of houses. The samples were analyzed for their pH, temperature, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, and different heavy metal contents. The pH of all water samples was within the US Environmental Protection Agency limits (6.5-8.5), while some water samples were found to exceed the allowed WHO limit for total dissolved solids (TDSs) in drinking water. Results showed that concentrations of the heavy metals vary significantly between the 44 samples. Results also showed that the concentration of five heavy metals (Cr, Mn, Ni, Ag, and Pb) is higher than the WHO limits for these heavy metals in drinking water. Overall, our findings revealed that harvested rainwater used for drinking of this part of south West Bank is contaminated with heavy metals that might affect human health."
I'm curious... which metals? Could it be aluminum, strontium, and berillium? If so, I'm sure you will find a possible source... once you start looking.

I love how comfortable Spencer has become in front of the camera compared to the early days when you began filming. You guys amaze me with your building skills, as well as your creativity & adaptability when things go wrong. I also admire your parenting style. The kids are adorable! Kenzie, you are absolutely beautiful inside & out & I love your silliness with Spencer! Also, your filming & editing are top notch, very impressive presentation. Keep up the good work guys! ❤
The wrong door again, I would be climbing up the wall. You seem to take it calmly (on camera). On a more cheerful note, your framing is complete, well done Spencer.
Love from Mike. ❤
@@FreezyAbitKT7A Nothing special.
1st door wrong size, then wrong design, and one damaged.
We lived in Ketchikan Alaska . We used rain water from our rough. We never got sick from yet. Also I loved how it made my hair feel. Loved it. We also drank rain water.
I think it would be fun to test the untreated water in the tanks. I wonder what score tank water would get.
Yes I was thinking the same thing. Would love to know the difference between the "filtered" system and "unfiltered" plain ole rainwater.👍💖👍
It would be! See what it picks up falling through the sky.
Clearest air? The chem trails poison is also in “your” air believe me. Nowhere is the air healthy anymore.
Cloud Seeding is why we have heavy metals in the rain water. I love your Guys build and may God bless you and your family.
Seeing you guys allways make me so much happy
I love that Beau and Cam stick together like they do, they will always look after each other. Your right McKinsey the cabin does look like it has more room now that the framing is complete. Looking good Spencer. Give Beau and Cam a big hug for me and tell Bear and Io I said Hi. God bless you all.
Congratulations on your excellent water purity results! It's nice to know your kids have healthy water from their earliest days.
The Rose-breasted Grosbeak @7:02 was migrating north from Central/South America. We have many that visit our feeders in Wisconsin in the summer.
Love watching your videos. The way you work together, your adorable little ones - just beautiful.
Did I just watch two people talk about water quality for 12 minutes straight? Weirdly enough, I really liked it. ❤
So sorry about the door situation. How frustrating! That is pretty interesting about the national average of drinking water quality. Makes you want to filter every faucet in your home.
I filter my city water in a Berkey
You mean to have a Whole House Filter. 😅
Must be Home Depot. Wrong door! That happened to me three times. 😡
@@BlondiNativeAme3 that was foolish.

Boiling it does enough no need to boil then filter but I guess you can just in case
Yup, republicans remove regulations that keep us safe every chance they get.
@@xdura4350
Better be safe than sorry!!! Boil and filter would be wise!
Boiling can make some things worse, sadly, by concentrating the chemicals & metals which are harmful. Berkey.
Its got to be safer than my drinking of Camp Lejuene H2o in 1980.

We, your fans are also happy for your score. I kind of expected that once I saw all the filtration you had in front of the faucets. Cabin is looking good. Not sure what it is for, but it is coming together nicely. The kids are getting big. Almost time to start thinking about school. I am very glad I started watching early on and have had a chance to see the great progress you have made.

A great start to the weekend 😊 watching my favorite UA-cam family
You are a lot more understanding than most 😊. I hope you get your door !
They are getting more affordable, but they tend to be quite wasteful.
The cabin is looking really good. Good work guys. Love what you have both done. 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦
Thanks. I'd love to have a place in the country like that.
Peace and quiet, clean air, pleasant surroundings, what more could one ask for ?

A door that fits!
Great video guys, you need a control sample/samples. Grab some unfiltered rainwater and grab some city water from a neighbor. Send both in. That will be your comparison/control.
I love gearing your little ones nearby. ❤
I remember living in the Caribbean just drinking rain water only, it’s no harm 😄

Ive wondered why you dont have a well for your water. I remember in the past youve almost run out of water. A well would solve all that and not worry about the water sitting in tanks.

A quick question, which may lead to a solution:
What metals are present in the samples?
If your roof is tin, and tin is showing up in the samples....
Likewise for the other components.
You can reverse engineer out where the problems come from.
I hope you fo,low me.
The problems will be worse if your rain is slightly acidic or alkaline.
This wil minutely dissove the metals into solution.
Unless there is an obvious source from industry.
These can be hundreds of miles away, and still effect your water.
I hope this may help you.
Many thanks for the time you dedicate to UA-cam.
We appreciate it.

Hey you guys I'm off the grid 2 and I collect my water. I have been drinking this stuff for 15 years. And the only filter I have is homemade charcoal filter.
To take a accurate sample you should remove the spray part of your faucet. Great time to give it a good lil clean too.
I think that's a bad idea. They want to test the water that they drink and use for cooking, and that also flows through the faucet.
@@JohnADoe-pg1qk well I guess if your testing the water from tank and it’s filter action system only yes you would. Otherwise no. But you do need to clean that part periodically.

You guys are making really good progress on your cabin. As for your water situation you seem to be doing really well I can agree with someone before me and that is getting another one or two cash to back yourself up so you have plenty of water.
Yes, I agree and Dane Wigington in the documentary « The Dimming » with researched facts will show you where it all comes from.
chemtrails.
Nobody wants to say the "C" word, but it's not a conspiracy theory anymore. Maybe time to jump down the rabbit hole.
Can't contain us you tube channel uses a similar water filtration system. They get water from their pond vs storage tanks. They have their rain water directed to the pond. They have good water quality too. Amazing what you can accomplish with a good filtration system.
I tested our city water. It tested positive for pesticides and lead 😮
Alexapure water filters cost almost half as much as the Berkey and they even filter out the poisonous fluoride. The Berkey makes you buy a separate filter to remove fluoride. I bought one about 4 years ago and the taste of our water is fantastic. The house is coming along great, and I love watching every one of your videos.
Cloud seeding is a real thing ,hence the trace metals.
Finally. Someone with common sense and true knowledge. I am personally sick of telling everyone.
I know an organic farmer who has been farming organically on his land for years and years and now has aluminum in his soil when it is tested. How did that get on an organic farm? From the air, perhaps?
@brittanyhayes3056 nope. They spray it in our air, none stop. Weather warfare programs. Done by NASA, coperate, military. With the information being out since the 1800's.
