Never, ever feed your cat anything that has been gamma irradiated (watch out for treats from China). It paralyses them. It happened to one of my cats 16 years ago.
@@deckiepoo I think they do a lot of gamma irradiation in China for export markets, chew things like pigs ears etc (poor piggies). It's to kill any pathogens. Quarantine in Australia is very strict. They didn't consider the food has been cooked at sufficiently high temperature to kill prions and other potential pathogens, sporing bacterial possibly. Normally food is cooked at a very high temperature to produce kibble. This one wasn't. For the local market in China it is possible they don't gamma irradiated but I don't know. The food we had come in was from Canada and it was held up by Quarantine, import refused without further treatment. The paralysis took 3 months to manifest so people were feeding their pets and poisoning them unknowingly as the nerve damage was being done undetected until the cat started stumbling and losing the use of its back legs. My cat ended up in a wheelchair or just dragging herself around by her forelegs. We campaigned and got irradiation removed as a quarantine treatment for catfood. Six long months of protest, petitions and evidence from the vet neurologist treating the cats. It was like multiple sclerosis, there was no cure.

Any tips on how to realistically get a dog who is sick with kidney disease to take all of those supplements? Or if you had to chose 1 or 2 supplements, which would they be? Thank you!
Great information! And I was pleasantly surprised to see Astragalus on the list ! 👍 I took it myself for years looked / felt great/ never got sick. It crossed my mind if I could give it to pets. Was wondering if Schizandra berry could or should also be given to pets since in humans Astragalus and Scizandra often compliment each other and are given simultaneously 🤷♀️ I know Schizandra deals with the water/ fluids of the body. So maybe beneficial with kidney issues ??
I strongly advocate for a balanced fresh food diet for dogs with CKD. My dog was diagnosed with CKD last year at the age of 16. Putting her on prescription kibbles made things worse, she stopped eating and blood test results worsened after just a week. I did a lot of research and decided to put her on a fresh food diet, and I cannot explain how much it helped (although most of the vets didn’t support my decision, claiming that prescription kibble is better..) My dog turned 17 back in May this year and CKD is still maintained at an early stage. She still has a great appetite and energy level for her age. Really appreciate all the vets out there like yourself sharing your knowledge so generously 🥹
@@saltbreaddd I know that the vets are supporting kibble which is the worst thing for animals especially with kidney or urinary problems… do you follow a specific recipe ?
We should all bring learning things like this is schools for humans which can transfer once learned to be able to administer to pets as well. Thanks for educating people for our pet friends.
One of my dogs a GSD x, was prescribed NSAIDS for the rest of her life for joint pain in a front and a back leg. She rapidly went into renal failure. The treatment, for GSD known to have sensitive stomachs, caused gastric issues and following vomiting, was unable to continue the NSAIDS. I discovered she no longer had the joint pain so it was a sledge hammer to crack a nut. I didn’t go back to the vet and cared for her in renal failure for two years until she displayed nystagmus( old dog syndrome) and had to be euthanised. The treatment should have been moderated but I went along with the vet fresh out of college while she still knew everything.
Same thing with my dog. My very experienced vet prescribed her those for 8 years . She was born with hip problems. She was a medium sized mix. One day I googled the medication and it say it was strictly for short term treatment. When I brought it up to my vet he didn't even apologise. Of course it was too late for her kidneys. RIP little girl 😢❤

I have a 17 year old who was diagnosed with CKD about 4-5 years ago. She was put on too many meds that didn’t help & long term could cause more harm! I started searching & found several natural vets online and began to learn so much. Get your kitty on WET food NOW. That helped but the quality is very questionable and right now there are many pets being made sick due to problems with manufactured. Dr Jones is the best out there because he explains things in a very understandable way. I started her on Dr Jones Ultimate Feline and saw a difference quickly. Best thing I have done was start making my kitty’s food at home using Dr Jones turkey recipe, it is simple and now I know what she is really eating, and she LOVES it. She has also stopped throwing up almost entirely. It is also a lot cheaper to make than buying even the cheaper commercial canned food. I was spending about $6.00 a day on her food and now it is about $6.50 for 3 days! I also learned to give her Sub Q fluids & B12 shots at needed. She is doing so much better overall but especially since I started making her food. Scour Dr Jones videos & learn from him, it will help you help your boy. Blessings to you and your fur boy.
One of our cats has stage 4 kidney disease. Regular Vets always say it is a death sentence and are no help. Agree about giving high end canned food or fresh food. The prescription diets are too low in protein and the cat looses muscle mass. Ours likes Weruva WX - good protein, low phosphorus. We use Gerber Baby Food meats to give any supplements. You could also use that to calm his stomach and give him some calories. We give sub q fluids every 36 hours. Try to make an appt with a holistic vet even if only for one time. They are so much more positive and helpful. Our cat takes Pet Wellbeing kidney support gold. The only med we give is a transdermal appetite stimulator that at this very low dose also helps any nausea. A holistic vet comes to our house every other week to give him acupuncture and laser treatments. Everyone is shocked that he is doing so great. Treat the cat, not the numbers. Best of luck to your boy!
What about stones in the bladder? I just had to buy very expensive dog food from hills. I get having to use now but after they are cleared up? They want me to stay on it. I’m on Medicare too costly.
I lost 2 beloved cats just one month apart because of ckd. That is the reason I switched to RAW diet. Prevention is always bestest than treatment or cure.

I am unable to find the supplement CoQ10 in you line up. All I find when reading other things about CKD is that you show Ultimate Omega 3 Formula. Could you please put a link directly to your CoQ10 formula? In this video when you held up the bottle it was covered by the big word coenzyme Q10. It would be so helpful if you put a link directly to your products that you are talking about or show the bottle clearly, even if it is not in your line up. Thank you.
I’ve just read online that Sub Q fluids (such as Lactated Ringers), has too much sodium in it for CKD cats. I found info about another Sub Q called “.45 NaCl” which has less sodium in it but it seems hard to purchase online. I feel like it’s very likely that using regular strength Sub Q (Lactated Ringer’s), may have greatly contributed to the rapid progression of my cat’s kidney disease since I’ve been using it over the past 4 months.

Just spoke to his vet this morning. Lab results show everything very high pretty much. Creatinine 10 bun 117. His vet said he isn’t going to be around much longer. Could be a few more weeks. To keep an eye on him and if he becomes incoherent, shaking or weak it will be time to make that decision.

Dr. Jones: Our 13 yo dog was prescribed gabapentin and Trazadone 2 months ago as prep to deal with anxiety before a vet appointment. We were told to give him both the night before and then were to give him another dose 2 hours before the appt. He had a truly horrible reaction after we gave him the first dose -- he woke up at some point, fell trying to stand, and then proceeded to be up the rest of the night, completely out of it, and terrified. Since that night, he has been filled with anxiety at night - acting like he did the night of the incident -- pacing, panting excessively, and being unable to sleep or relax. I've tried so many things, melatonin, calming supplements, lick mats, new beds, walks before bed... Some nights are better than others, but every night is a struggle, with some nights being as close to 100% sleepless as you can get. This is a completely new behavior -- this is a dog who loved bedtime. Do you have any recommendations to help? We would be forever grateful.
First off, it could be a urinary tract infection or even something more serious affecting the kidneys or bladder. Best to get your dog checked by your vet for an accurate diagnosis. In the meantime, plenty of fresh water helps, and consider adding some unsweetened cranberry extract-it can support urinary health naturally. But remember, this is just supportive care. A vet visit is a must here!

I have 4 cats with stage 2 kidney disease. Did 5 years sub q fluids for another kitty..did well.
Oh my gosh, 4 cats with renal disease. This is my 3rd cat with it. Yes, subq fluids really help, and IV fluids, too, if they are really dehydrated.
Great information! And I was pleasantly surprised to see Astragalus on the list ! 👍
I took it myself for years looked / felt great/ never got sick. It crossed my mind if I could give it to pets.
Was wondering if Schizandra berry could or should also be given to pets since in humans Astragalus and Scizandra often compliment each other and are given simultaneously 🤷♀️
I know Schizandra deals with the water/ fluids of the body. So maybe beneficial with kidney issues ??
Thank you so much!!! So few veterinarians know anything about holistic health for dogs.. I’m very grateful
I strongly advocate for a balanced fresh food diet for dogs with CKD. My dog was diagnosed with CKD last year at the age of 16. Putting her on prescription kibbles made things worse, she stopped eating and blood test results worsened after just a week. I did a lot of research and decided to put her on a fresh food diet, and I cannot explain how much it helped (although most of the vets didn’t support my decision, claiming that prescription kibble is better..)
My dog turned 17 back in May this year and CKD is still maintained at an early stage. She still has a great appetite and energy level for her age. Really appreciate all the vets out there like yourself sharing your knowledge so generously 🥹

@Hannelore7 Thank you so much. That's good to know. 👍

My dog has pee in there blood, what can I give to him to help his kindeys proccess the blood?
First off, it could be a urinary tract infection or even something more serious affecting the kidneys or bladder. Best to get your dog checked by your vet for an accurate diagnosis. In the meantime, plenty of fresh water helps, and consider adding some unsweetened cranberry extract-it can support urinary health naturally. But remember, this is just supportive care. A vet visit is a must here!
