      Thank you. This is a first for me. My students usually complain that have a monotone and boring voice.

    At 13:20, why didn't you just copy the formulas in from FCFS? Are they different for EDD?

      You have to rearrange the list. First Come First Serve (FCFS) is the order in which you received the jobs and that does not necessarily match with the Earliest Due Date, where jobs are arranged by the due date. Sometimes they match up, sometimes they don't. I was probably trying to be overly cautious. I find that my students often make mistakes in the copying of formulas because they think it is the same or that the relative cell address will change appropriately. Sometimes it is better to re-enter the formulas to make sure they work correctly.

      @@carycountryman I see. I've set up my sheet so that I've copied and pasted the formulae but only have to do a range sort or re-order of the job-specific data, which is quicker, but your way is easier to follow and is clearer.

    Hi, can I use dates instead? Example: 01/15/2020 as my basis for day one?

      You can certainly use dates but sometimes it is easier to change it into the actual number of days. One of the issues with dates is that you have to determine if the work can be done on that first day or is this just the day that the schedule is developed and work is scheduled to start the next day. You also have to determine if work can be done on the last date or day because if you just subtract the differences in dates, you may short yourself a day.

    Hi,if the question state today is 140 days, it will use the same step???

    • @carycountryman
      @carycountryman  7 років тому

      If today's date is 140, then the steps or procedures should be the same except for figuring out the day the job was completed. If today's date is a work day, then you need to use the day before. For example, if today's date is 140 and we can work on jobs today, then I need to use Day 139 as my starting point. If the job takes 25 days to complete, then it will be done on day 164. If I had used day 140 as my starting point, then I would be missing the current day because I could work on the job today. If they do not mention the current day as being a work day or that the scheduling was started at the beginning of the day, you can assume that you are doing the schedule today but work will start the next day and it is okay then to just use today's date and add the length of the job to that date.

      I developed these videos as part of a course that I teach at Brigham Young University - Hawaii. The textbook that we use is Principles of Operations Management by Jay Heizer and Barry Render, published by Pearson.

    can you please send me the excel file?

      There really isn't a template for this type of analysis. These tables were created in Excel based on the data that was given. They have to be created from scratch using the information and data given. You can't simply plug in different numbers. The circumstances and the data may be entirely different. I was just demonstrating in Excel how I would set up the tables but there are lots of different ways to do this analysis. In some ways, this would have been easier to do on a scratch piece of paper.
