Heather, as I begin my transition to Mérida in the next 18 months, you are definitely someone I'm watching AND paying attention to. Thanks for sharing the price breakdowns, as well. Congratulations and wishing you the best. Your home looks lovely.👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you. I hope the detailed information will help. There are always other ways to do things but I'm hoping my journey will help others decide how they are going to proceed as the make their transition.
@cocoarose1100 OH! I hadn't considered them installing the outlets high for that reason. I'm going to have to hunt for something to cover it while being aware of electrical safety.
The outside looks cute and I love the wood that your bar stools are made of. The living/dining room furniture is beautiful. For the space in your dining room with the electrical stuff, you could get artwork and mount it on a box-type frame so that it wouldn't sit flush on the wall but out whatever distance you need to clear the plugs (or a rounded mask?). Love the entryway mirror! Your home is beautiful, you have done a wonderful job with it.
@cindyk3076 Thank you Cindy. That's a great idea to hide the wiring. I know a carpenter. Maybe he can make a frame or box for me. I'm hoping to find some interesting craft project. We shall see. Thanks for watching the video. 😁
@@HeatherICreateMyPath If doesn't hamper the walk through you could install a shallow shelving unit just deep enough to house your coaxial wi-fi connector and some shallow books or knick- knacks and still provide access to the plugs. You could run it to the floor so it may look better and wouldn't stand out as an unplanned add on. The next thing would be to change it all out and move it but that would entail quite a bit of work along with cement wall work and repainting. The last resort that quite a few people get away with is a strategically placed colorful Mexican blanket!🤣Or possibly a hat rack with said Mexican blanket? I'm sure you'll think of something. Otherwise your new house is now a home and everything you've done looks great. It looks like you are all settled in. The big question is how far of a walk is it to the nearest taco stand! BTW- Something I noticed is that was no obvious drainage on your newly cemented in back pool area. With your roof drain also located in back that adds to drainage needs. Is it all sloped to the small open gardening area? Do you not have access to your roof for an outdoor patio set up? That would add some much used extra living and gardening space! Mucha suerte desde la hermosa Ensenada!
Hi David. Those are great ideas! Thanks. I hadn't thought about a few shallow shelves! That would definitely work! The back has an excellent slope to the little graveled area in the far corner. The pool surround contractors really knew what they were doing. Thanks for taking the time to help me. ❤
What a beautiful home Heather. Mabel a book case ir China cabinet would be nice to cover the outlet in the middle of the wall. A China cabinet with lights on the inside to utilize the outlets.
I absolutely love the inverter, boiler and generator set up. Note to self! The tiles on the pool back walls are an added bonus to tie the outside and inside together. Again...looks nice. You did good.
@tracylindsey4199 Thanks, Tracy. Yes, the power elements of the house are very important to me. We gave it a lot of thought, and I think this is the best setup for my home.
For $8k USD the interior fittings are top notch- hand fitting storage plus solar PLUS handmade furniture? Incredible! You will find that those electrical sockets are like that in new and newer construction in Central America due to storms- keeps them free from water and thus danger.
@EMSpdx Hi. I wish that were the case. The 8k US was for the cabinetry. I provided a very detailed price list in my cost of house dressing video. Thanks for watching the video. 😁
@brendadurden6414 it depends on what type of material you use for your cabinets and closets. In Heather's case, she used real fine compacted wood tailored to her special needs, likings, and spaces. Press wood or cheap wood would certainly would have been cheaper. Using cheap wood would have cut the prices now but would have to be replaced in like 5 years or less due to the humidity and climate characteristically of Yucatan. Heather used the best materials, but it will last a lifetime.

Hi @user-wk9cy4dr7y . Welcome to Mérida! Thank you for your positive words. I hope your move went well and you are settling in. I'm glad you found positive vibes here. The world can be tough. The least we can do is try to be kind to each other.🤗
@Mexitplans Thank you Mexitplans. I really want people to have real numbers and food for thought as they make and execute their home buying plans in Mexico. I like your name. Clear and to the point. It works! 😉
My sister lives in Chellem? Yucatan and has lived there for 11 years. She's never considered coming back to the States. Even after her husband's death.
@sandy_sd10 Hi Sandy. I think I can understand your sister's decision. No place is perfect, but for me, I can live here with more peace. The only thing asked of me here is to be a decent person. The constant low-level anxiety that I experienced in the US doesn't exist here.
@@meliw4142 $8000 dollars. I would have LOVED it if it was 8k pesos! I mentioned prices in this video as a follow-up to the very specific costs I provided in my initial cost of house dressing video.
Folks. I understand that some people believe that everything in Mexico is dirt cheap and anyone who pays more is receiving "gringo pricing." One of the reasons I offered the detailed pricing in my videos is to give folks a bit of cost reality as they develop their plans and to suggest they might have to let go of the "everything is extremely inexpensive here" notion. Like everywhere else, prices are rising quickly. Especially when it comes to housing. There were certainly less expensive options but for inferior quality products. I am not wealthy, so when I spend my money, I do so with the plan of only spending once. In the case of the cabinetry, press wood or cheap wood would have been much less expensive, but due to the humidity, I would have been replacing them in a few years. Quite simply, I buy the best that I can afford while sticking to my budget. Here, like everywhere in the world, you get what you pay for.
Hi @aleejay2007. I think it's helpful to offer insight or useful information when commenting. If you've build, dressed, or remodel a house in Mérida this year and received great deals for similar quality materials and craftsmanship, please share the details. This would offer readers solid options.
