Bettany is one of my TOP 5 favorite actors of all time. Bettany may not be interested in how he is rated (?), but he is criminally underrated in my opinion. Everything he does, says, and how he does and says it is brilliant. I simply LOVE this man. Thank you Mr. Bettany! P.S. Amazing hair....so gorgeous!

Santiago F Yeah he was right but the great question here is why blow up the guy in a little computerstore? As with any terrorist the idea behind it might actually hold some ground but in the execution all we see is "I'm so lonely so ordaniry people have to suffer" which is psychological bullcrap. I'm anti-violence but if you must do it, if you have a real case than why no go after the real game-makers. Not someone who's actually in the same mess we all are. Go after those people or institutions that create that mess. Even Isis has a point when they talk about imperialisation or whatever but than they blow up people at a rock concert and when you look at the psychology of the guy that did the bombing it's some asshole who couldn't get laid. Same with Ted. Such brilliant ideas, so much truth and in the end it's just a 50 year old virgin that wanted a family and hates anyone that does have one. Blow up the power grid, blow up a federal bank, blow up something with real power and I will be cheering but not the poor guy that's basically a slave of the same system.

If you don't feel bad for Ted Kaczynski, then you are a brainwashed sheeple with no sense of humanity. Doesn't mean you agree with him, but of course he was a tortured victom by MK Ultra. In the end, the CIA was behind it all, just like all the other MK Ultra mind control mass shooting victims

After watching Mindhunters, I accidently fell into the Unabomber series with Paul Bettany and thought it was quite compelling - even terrific in moments. (And a great follow-up to Mindhunters.) Glad I saw it. But I can't imagine what caused them to originally consider Bettany for the role. He looks nothing like Kaczynski, who was a short guy - 5'9"- while Bettany is over 6'3." There is little resemblance. Nonetheless, Bettany was a great piece of casting.

i'm a little late... but here we go... Just wanted to say, that Paul nailed it. AND i feel like the most horrible thing that can happen to a person is solitary confinement. I think that is evil. i'd rather DIE than be in a tiny space, no windows, no people, controlled by others forever. FUCK no. i'd rather die. I feel so horrible for everyone in prison and especially the ones isolated.

“I don’t think anyone can feel sympathy for him”
I beg to differ, I sympathize with him and I know there are others out there who sympathize with him. He was hurt and used and betrayed by ppl he trusted, he was vulnerable and was subjected to MKultra whn he was 16 years old... who knows what dat did to him. he was depressed and angry at everyone and he didn’t know how to deal with it. U have no idea what depression and rejection does to the psyche. Not excusing his actions but I sympathize with him, he was too fragile for this world. God is to blame for putting him on this vicious world. Great show btw

I felt bad for character because it was played so well by Paul. But like Paul said the child that was so tortured, that part was definitely heartbreaking. He lost his humanity along the way. And he was on the brink of something like remorse at the end and it did seem like a shame that he turned out that way. But the victim statements were well placed cause you HAD to see the other end of the spectrum. That was so vital. I feel like maybe that could have been better emphasized in the series because at the end of the day as people we relate with seeing visceral depiction of grief in theatre like we saw how the experiments tormented him at 16, but most of us don’t know the grief of your own bodily functions. Disability is so underrepresented in media that the average person would always say, ‘I can’t imagine how someone can go through it’ and I think it’s high time it’s accurately explored so we can feel an equal visceral reaction and feel sympathy towards victims in a much more profound way.

The only detail I’m most disappointed about in Bettany’s performance is his voice. Kaczynski has a kind of high-pitched, reedy, stereotypically nerdy Chicagoan accent. Of course they either may not have known of this fact or the dramatized character needed a cold, condescending tone to pull off a genius terrorist you’d be afraid of. But overall, amazing TV show I’ve watched several times now made by a fantastic cast and crew. Well done.

To answer Paul Bettany's question, he was so full of rage, bitterness, resentment, jealousy and especially dispair that he only had the will power to go down the easiest road to have his revenge on social norms he considered deviant.; i.e everybody and anybody who lives by societies rules was a legitimate target

Kaczynski didnt have the capacity to "take down the power grid". He used the most simple and primitive method in concert with the system he hated in order to get attention/seek retritibution. The fact that it went through the entire postal system and anonymously passed off to every accomplice before randomly going off was part of the practical application of his terror. I dont know how this guy thinks he could have sabotaged a power grid with a cigar box and some match heads

I think the reason why he didn't bomb power grids and stuff is because he exclusively used the mailing system to transport his bombs. As simple as just writing a name on a box. If he did mail them to some powergrid, it would still require some person to open the package.

Why not take down the national grid? Because it was more than making a point, he said the murder was mostly just revenge on society that didnt give two shits on trying to figure out mental health. Specifically HIS. His mother almost enrolled him in an autism study but didnt, this study could have saved lives. Ted is autistic, as were many of the genius' of the past e.g Einstein etc. If Ted could learn how to understand himself through that lens WITH CARE, he could have been accomodated and joined Earth First activist group or something.

I'm also happy that he is able to report back to us the scientific observations made about the physiologial effects as cracking of voice from disuse, etc, that we now know comes to afflict someone under such extreme conditions.

27:28 speculation! The guy tells you exactly why he does it and his targets aren't random innocent people. Do you really think that someone as smart as this simply pulls names out of a hat? These people were selected because of their involvement in either Distributing technology or shaping the way people perceive technology. Had he not killed anybody then you wouldn't be talking about him right now. What I'm not doing right now is excusing him for his actions so no need for any of your childish emotional outbursts about how he killed people. Everybody knows he killed people and almost nobody is in favor of the killings so don't try to strawman me by making an argument for me that I didn't make myself. Like it even needs to be said that I'm anti murder

Yes, the Netflix movie made you feel sorry... sad... for Kaczynski. Certainly distracted from the horror, murder, blood and horrific damage he created. I'm glad he is behind bars now... our world is safer now. MK Ultra? Sounds about right. Humanity, every one of us is a guinea pig... we have been for a very long time. In the 1920's a book, "20 million guinea pigs". We've all been tested on, messed with, all in the name of Knowledge, Power, Wealth... This is true. Right now there is a huge Psy Ops happening to us all, I'm sure everyone has noticed how crazy National News has been since 2013. Made possible by a traitor president, Nefarious Corporations... and the horrible habit of Humans to become mindless sheep.
I do believe the Mk Ultra experience drove him to committing violence. However, Kaczynski, with such a brilliant mind..... could have created awe and wonder instead of horror and fear. The best thing that came out of the whole Unabomber experience is that the FBI developed knowledge from the scant evidence- Kaczynski's own written words, and they've used their knowledge to further their ability to identify evidence in crimes.
