Bettany is one of my TOP 5 favorite actors of all time. Bettany may not be interested in how he is rated (?), but he is criminally underrated in my opinion. Everything he does, says, and how he does and says it is brilliant. I simply LOVE this man. Thank you Mr. Bettany! P.S. Amazing hair....so gorgeous!
Great performance as Ted Kaczynski actually made me feel bad for that psycho. I hope Paul gets the proper recognition and more roles in mainstream stuff!!!
Santiago F Yeah he was right but the great question here is why blow up the guy in a little computerstore? As with any terrorist the idea behind it might actually hold some ground but in the execution all we see is "I'm so lonely so ordaniry people have to suffer" which is psychological bullcrap. I'm anti-violence but if you must do it, if you have a real case than why no go after the real game-makers. Not someone who's actually in the same mess we all are. Go after those people or institutions that create that mess. Even Isis has a point when they talk about imperialisation or whatever but than they blow up people at a rock concert and when you look at the psychology of the guy that did the bombing it's some asshole who couldn't get laid. Same with Ted. Such brilliant ideas, so much truth and in the end it's just a 50 year old virgin that wanted a family and hates anyone that does have one. Blow up the power grid, blow up a federal bank, blow up something with real power and I will be cheering but not the poor guy that's basically a slave of the same system.
If you don't feel bad for Ted Kaczynski, then you are a brainwashed sheeple with no sense of humanity. Doesn't mean you agree with him, but of course he was a tortured victom by MK Ultra. In the end, the CIA was behind it all, just like all the other MK Ultra mind control mass shooting victims
I'm more interested in what spectrum of mental illness he is the profiling breakthroughs were amazing by targeting Joe public he was sending out a message to ordinary people taking out the grid wouldn't have had the right impact for him
This guy Paul is smart!! Like the Unabomber was...no wonder why he played him so good. The whole cast kicked ass, but Paul was the best...hope he gets an emmy...watch it on Netflix before they may take it off; it's a brilliant series!
After watching Mindhunters, I accidently fell into the Unabomber series with Paul Bettany and thought it was quite compelling - even terrific in moments. (And a great follow-up to Mindhunters.) Glad I saw it. But I can't imagine what caused them to originally consider Bettany for the role. He looks nothing like Kaczynski, who was a short guy - 5'9"- while Bettany is over 6'3." There is little resemblance. Nonetheless, Bettany was a great piece of casting.
i'm a little late... but here we go... Just wanted to say, that Paul nailed it. AND i feel like the most horrible thing that can happen to a person is solitary confinement. I think that is evil. i'd rather DIE than be in a tiny space, no windows, no people, controlled by others forever. FUCK no. i'd rather die. I feel so horrible for everyone in prison and especially the ones isolated.
“I don’t think anyone can feel sympathy for him” I beg to differ, I sympathize with him and I know there are others out there who sympathize with him. He was hurt and used and betrayed by ppl he trusted, he was vulnerable and was subjected to MKultra whn he was 16 years old... who knows what dat did to him. he was depressed and angry at everyone and he didn’t know how to deal with it. U have no idea what depression and rejection does to the psyche. Not excusing his actions but I sympathize with him, he was too fragile for this world. God is to blame for putting him on this vicious world. Great show btw
He said the psychological testing had no effect on his actions. He also told his brother that people as himself (highly intelligent) had a sadistic streak in them.
I felt bad for character because it was played so well by Paul. But like Paul said the child that was so tortured, that part was definitely heartbreaking. He lost his humanity along the way. And he was on the brink of something like remorse at the end and it did seem like a shame that he turned out that way. But the victim statements were well placed cause you HAD to see the other end of the spectrum. That was so vital. I feel like maybe that could have been better emphasized in the series because at the end of the day as people we relate with seeing visceral depiction of grief in theatre like we saw how the experiments tormented him at 16, but most of us don’t know the grief of your own bodily functions. Disability is so underrepresented in media that the average person would always say, ‘I can’t imagine how someone can go through it’ and I think it’s high time it’s accurately explored so we can feel an equal visceral reaction and feel sympathy towards victims in a much more profound way.
I didn't know the story of Unabomber, because I was only 4 when they arrested him, and although I strongly believe that being in prison for life is the only right thing cuz what he did was unspeakable. But Paul made me cry by the end of the series, he was really great
Paul Bettany nailed that American accent better than any other British actor I’ve seen. He didn’t have a single slip-up. If I didn’t know any better, I’d have never guessed he wasn’t American.
Great interview, one of the best I've come across recently. I have to admit that I used to find Ricky rather irritating, but he's on point here. Good job!
The unibomber in his own words ,is much more honest and true to life film of who he was ,rather than a gravel voiced moody detective with all the cliche ingredients of typical Hollywood production .
Just watching this, n damn Bettany's performance were so impactful..i hardly recognize him..no wonder i thought he was familiar when he first appear on screen (i skipped the intro so never saw his name)
The only detail I’m most disappointed about in Bettany’s performance is his voice. Kaczynski has a kind of high-pitched, reedy, stereotypically nerdy Chicagoan accent. Of course they either may not have known of this fact or the dramatized character needed a cold, condescending tone to pull off a genius terrorist you’d be afraid of. But overall, amazing TV show I’ve watched several times now made by a fantastic cast and crew. Well done. Source: ua-cam.com/video/o6mYuNd6uhY/v-deo.html
DanielRDB lol then he probably wpuldnt like the fact that he was portrayed anyhow, at least in a guilty manner at that, no shade to Paul Bettany whom I think is a great actor
To answer Paul Bettany's question, he was so full of rage, bitterness, resentment, jealousy and especially dispair that he only had the will power to go down the easiest road to have his revenge on social norms he considered deviant.; i.e everybody and anybody who lives by societies rules was a legitimate target
Kaczynski didnt have the capacity to "take down the power grid". He used the most simple and primitive method in concert with the system he hated in order to get attention/seek retritibution. The fact that it went through the entire postal system and anonymously passed off to every accomplice before randomly going off was part of the practical application of his terror. I dont know how this guy thinks he could have sabotaged a power grid with a cigar box and some match heads
cuz ppl would listen. thats why he was making those attacks. after all he got the papers to publish his work cuz of how serious it was on a national level. ppl listen when it is flesh and blood especially when it can hit you anywhere anytime.
I think the reason why he didn't bomb power grids and stuff is because he exclusively used the mailing system to transport his bombs. As simple as just writing a name on a box. If he did mail them to some powergrid, it would still require some person to open the package.
Why not take down the national grid? Because it was more than making a point, he said the murder was mostly just revenge on society that didnt give two shits on trying to figure out mental health. Specifically HIS. His mother almost enrolled him in an autism study but didnt, this study could have saved lives. Ted is autistic, as were many of the genius' of the past e.g Einstein etc. If Ted could learn how to understand himself through that lens WITH CARE, he could have been accomodated and joined Earth First activist group or something.
Oh man, wow, that's really something - he was actually isolated, in some cabin in the wild somewhere, (albeit with running water and electricity) for _three whole days_! I'd say he's lucky not to have gone raving mad from such a bold and daring psychological experiment! I'm also happy that he is able to report back to us the scientific observations made about the physiologial effects as cracking of voice from disuse, etc, that we now know comes to afflict someone under such extreme conditions.
我个人觉得他只是想证明他的炸弹技术像他的数学天赋一样厉害并为此作出努力证明。 Personally, I think he just wanted to prove that his bombing technology is as powerful as his mathematical talent and he has made efforts to prove it
27:28 speculation! The guy tells you exactly why he does it and his targets aren't random innocent people. Do you really think that someone as smart as this simply pulls names out of a hat? These people were selected because of their involvement in either Distributing technology or shaping the way people perceive technology. Had he not killed anybody then you wouldn't be talking about him right now. What I'm not doing right now is excusing him for his actions so no need for any of your childish emotional outbursts about how he killed people. Everybody knows he killed people and almost nobody is in favor of the killings so don't try to strawman me by making an argument for me that I didn't make myself. Like it even needs to be said that I'm anti murder
Great show, would have been excellent except for Sam Worthington who is a fuckin shite actor. Episode 6 was a 10/10 for me coz Bethany was the star and Sam was not on screen but it dropped in quality in ep 7 when Sam returned.

hehe, couldn't agree more. He's a very underrated actor IMO & has a lovely voice.
So true brilliant actor so underrated
Just watched the series on Netflix, this is programme making of the highest order. Congrats to all involved.
He played Ted perfectly thank you for the great show!
He totally did not. He made Ted seem like a psycho sheldon cooper. Booo
His tone of voice needed to be higher pitched and pointed.
Ehh, he doesn't sound like him at all.
This man saved the series - great performance.
Great performance as Ted Kaczynski actually made me feel bad for that psycho. I hope Paul gets the proper recognition and more roles in mainstream stuff!!!

jokerswildio it was showed first on the discovery channel I believe.
The episode that depicts him at Harvard is just heartbreaking. Any person who would undergo such treatment is likely to become a threath to society.
Read the manifesto.
People should read Teds manifesto..
some good ideas but absolutely terribly executed
Paul Bettany could read me bedtime stories as I drift into dreamland.
If manhunt the serie is how Ted really did feel, I really think they should reconsider the sentence

Good actor, good interview. Too bad there are no real interviews with Ted out here.
He's very shy indeed.

Yes, this detail bothered me the most.
he did such an incredible job, however I am confused why he didnt try to make an attempt to reach out to Kaczynski
Eric Write you have to have high level clearance to meet people in fbi custody
Eric Write anyone with some sense should know you need high level security clearance which might take a while 🙄
Ted would never talk
Eric Write Ted hasn't reacted to his brothers letters in decades, I doubt he would with an actor he doesn't know.

Sid Sloth he will always be the badass Marvel's The vision

I'm surprised with the way things are progressing there are not more people like Ted Kaczynsk.
I just watched the entire fucking series and didn’t even realise it was him haha
Exactly. I had no idea Bettany could deliver this kind of seamless transformative performance. A fucking plus.

No, he’s a very intelligent eloquent man.

2fast2block: It's just a dramatization.
Santiago F nobody thinks he’s innocent
he pleaded guilty because he wanted his legacy to be the bombings....that's proof enough for me.
2fast2block The actual Fitzgerald agent said the show was over 80% spot on with everything.
Nop,the last time he was there it was for Civil War..
