Remarkable chapter. Loving anyone as yourself, anyone, is a major challenge. The "neighbour" in this chapter was a total stranger, potentially even an enemy. Separately, the verse "I saw Satan falling from heaven like lightning" isn't one you're gonna hear every day either and the mini passage about the two sisters at the close is a gem.
Thank you so much for having created this series. My friends and family continue to study daily thanks to the great format Branch Together has created. I'll take on the question and look for the "who" so that I can be more like Jesus.
God/bible is like a 3D chessboard there is not just the first level of understanding there are underlining meanings . We all understand doing good to our neighbour or should do . The question was and "who" is my neighbour. All scripture testifys to Christ . Its not about us its all about Christ. The expert in the law has worked it out that he can get eternal life via the first two commandments loving God and loving his neighbour. But "who " is this neighbour that you must love as yourself and who the second commandment is about that we can have this eternal life. Jesus tells a parable that not all will understand it is very symbolic it tells of a man going down from Jeruselum to Jerico literally paradise to a fallen world where the man fell amongst robbers who robbed him of his clothing (rainment ) he fell because this man symbolises Adam . Nobody can save the man the levite he stands for the law which the man has broken it cannot save him , and then the priest comes by who cannot be contaminated symbolises God who can not look at sin But out of nowhere comes the Samaritan (the outsider) Jesus who attends to "fallen man" this man who is in limbo half alive half dead he bathes the mans wounds with wine and oil you could think of this as we are washed by the blood of Christ . The man is now raised up on his beast this can be mankind restored to his rightful place via the crucified flesh of Christ.. It mentions this man taken to the inn this can mean heaven and Jesus hands the coins he pays the price father and son. When a person died in the old days two coins were placed on the eyes of the departed . The Samaritan says he will come back with gifts that he will pay for any expense incurred. Greater love hath NO MAN than he giveth his life for a friend
I can change how I act around this one person... but how do I get them to stop tormenting me? It boils my blood what he does to me. How can I be friends with my enemy if my enemy doesn’t want to be friends?
When you show friendship and love but do not get any in return, just know that you will get it eventually because everyone at some point will show love and affection back to someone they do not particularly like. Just be kind and give it time😊
love you all neighbours! ❤
