The logo at the center of the steering wheel is 4 dots, which is the letter H in morse code. The fabric square on the left of the dash is not a speaker, there's a metal plate behind the fabric so you can use magnetic accessories (like sunglasses holders)
I looked for this comment also. I have this exact vehicle in Burgundy. I was going to mention the steering wheel bar with the 4 dots is morse code for the letter 'H'. Regarding the fabric square on the left of the dash, funny enough I found out yesterday, that it was a magnetic square, but didn't know it was behind the fabric. I'll have to check how it detaches.
11:19 the bar on the steering wheel with the 4 dimples/dots are representative of an H in morse code. I think Hyundai debuted that design treatment on the Ioniq 5, in keeping with all of it's pixelated elements
"It's more fun to drive a slow car fast" I concur. In high school, my brother and I shared a used '78 Ford Fiesta. We extracted every ounce of fun that car had to give.
My first car was an '84 Honda CRX, and to this day it's still the most fun I've had driving a car. To be fair, everything after that was a cheap hatchback or practical sedan or wagon or SUV, so I have no real experience with anything that's supposed to be fun. That said, my first new car was an '89 Daihatsu Charade, and that was pretty dang fun too. I guess I just like tiny cars.
@@BradWilson1969 I had a 93 charade 1.3 tx, light and fast for that time. (there was also the GTti, another notch faster) And now to think that my base octavia 1.5 would run rings around it... how times have changed.
I agree 100%. In 2012, I owned a Honda Fit Sport and while it only had about 117 hp, it was one of the most tossible, fun car I had. The suspension was tuned for more handling duties so it was easy to push it to 8/10ths or higher and not worry about plowing into a ditch. It was a lot of DRIVING fun without the added worry of managing excessive speed.
Sarah always dresses to match the vehicle. So the Kona N line is 🔥🔥🔥? Either way, I too had to replay the video from when those shoes came into the shot.
The four dots on steering wheel is morse code for the letter H. It’s taken directly from the Ionic line just like HVAC controls, gear selector etc. This was designed as a EV first then adapted to ICE.
Gotta hand it to Hyundai/Kia, they are killing it with their designs. They look more upscale than they actually cost. I’ve noticed you’ve reviewed a number of vehicles in these dark red colors… I like them. Hope you took a little break to watch a movie or two yesterday. Thank you, Sarah. 👍👍👍
Great review. Thanks! We had bought a 2022 N Line for my kid last year and it was a ball to drive. Of note: At 6:26 you note it's a 1.6L but at 7:11 it's a 2.0L. It's a 1.6L since this is the "N Line" and not the beefier and more expensive "N." Hyundai really needs to clean up their naming system. On their corporate site, they actually treat the "Kona N" as a whole different car and not just a trim of the regular Kona. That's annoying and confusing.
FYI, The steering wheel logo is 4 dots, which is Morse code for "H". 🙂. Great review! I have the Limited version and it is 99% the same as the N, but the rear hatch does have auto open and has power open/close.
I had a 2006 Chevy Aveo for commuting. As you noted although it was gutless it was also fun to drive. It had a five speed which certainly helped. I could and did drive in the wrong way into a group of angled parking slots and make the greater than 90 degree turn to get into a slot.
Very Christmas, Sarah, red Hyundi, red matching top from you and another no holds, dam straightforward, extremely technical and funny car review, thanks Sarah that's made my Christmas 😂👍👍👍
A spicy red bubble car review for xmas/boxing day. I have 2018 Kia Forte 5 sx 1.6 turbo, never had a problem. I change my oil every 4000 to 5000 miles with synthetic. Always did with every car I had. Treat them well and drive them well and you should practically never have a problem.
There is nothing more fun than pushing an under power car with skinny tires to it's limit. I learned this with my 1980 Subaru GL 2 door Hatchback. Which was not full time AWD and it had a quircky 3rd flip up headlight used when passing other cars.
I agree with the sentiment that it’s more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. I have both a 718 GT4 (not a super car but very capable) as well as a mini countryman JCW with a tiny engine and a manual transmission. For the track, it’s the GT4 all day long. For anything else, the mini is a much bigger hoot to drive.
I currently have one of these from the dealer while my Veloster N gets some warranty work done. I am actually really enjoying it. It's a decent little beast. And I hear you on the engine noise... first thing I noticed!
We have the 1.6 turbo engine in the Kona in the UK, but AWD is not available here. But it is available in certain EU markets, such as Germany, Poland, Greece and Spain.
Clearly the little Kona needs a 1.8 and possibly lowered stiffer suspension to really hit the mark, but well done Hyundai all the same. Another excellent review Sarah. Merry Christmanses and Hippy New Years. 🍻🐧❤🥂 ps. Hyundai missed an opportunity there with the opening of the front grills, should have had a scanning red led strip. 😂
Lower the suspension and ruin its ground clearance for off road work. Yes to the stiffer suspension. If it's not intended for off road work it doesn't need AWD.
I suspect that there will be an actual N coming out at some point, and that one will have considerably more beans, as well as stiffer and lower suspension. The N-line is more of an appearance and trim package.
I love that you asked for 1.8 and not a 2.0 or larger, too many people want to jump on here and talk about how it needs 300/hp/lbs when really for the price if it had 220hp/lbs most would be happy at the price point.
I change my oil on forced induction vehicles every 3k, that's just good maintenance practice! Also, if you're "getting your oil changed" I recommend buying your own oil and using a high quality product, not just the garbage they'll throw in it at a lube rack. if you can, just do the maintenance on it yourself.. you'll thank me later.
Sarah always dresses like the car is a accessory which is nice... The Seat cover was looking mighty Spicy as always !!! Happy New Year Sarah and to many more prosperous years to come !!! Awesome review there young lady !!!
I was seriously considering a Kona N last year before I saw this refresh. From what I can tell, it addresses my biggest problems with the last version, mainly the backseat can fit adults now, and the tech looks very modern instead of 5+ years old. I sure hope they bring back the N model with this new version.
Whuuut.. the Kona N tech was some of the best in class... Second THIS IS NOT EVEN KINDA the Kona n... This is a Kona n LINE. The Kona n is no longer made, but THAT was the best vehicle Hyundai ever made, nothing "outdated" about it.
This current model, (writing about the Kona) looks like a nice utility vehicle - too bad they didn't make the engine a bit bigger - thank you Sarah for another helpful/entertaining review, and where's Waldo? ... I mean LIZ - I thought you Guys' were Besties
just waiting for the red eye addition where the red dot moves back and forwards across the hood light bar with the cylon robot sound from battlestar galactica the original tv show...
I drive a lot of rental cars as part of work travel, and I will never turn down any car (unless it smells bad inside). I have genuinely laughed my ass off driving around in a Chevy Spark, those things are hilariously small, but surprisingly capable on American roads (I'm usually doing some freeway driving and city traffic). I think it would be hilarious as a review idea to just go rent random cars and review them just like you're reviewing brand new cars. The rental-fleet spec cars can be so random in their options, I've had complete stripped down no-option cars and fully loaded, every option cars as well.
This looks cool thank you for the review. Can this be stolen like other Hyundais? Worried about that. How does it compare to the turbo trims of the Mazda cx30?
My 16 year old son and his friends would call this a "traffic car". Its a phrase I like and it perfectly describes a daily driver category of cars. Feel free to use it.
I hope we get a Kona N on this generation. Hyundai is still up in the air on a full N version but they haven’t said no, it’d likely have the 2.5T. If you’ve never driven the current Kona N and you like aggressively sporty small cars, do yourself a favor; it drives even better than it looks
Thank you, Sarah, for being the best car reviewer on the InterWeb. If it wasn't for you, I would pass on this review for sure. LOve the Slit skirt fashion statement in high heels. You add lots of Spice to differentiate your form the Ho HUM norm. You are Ageless. Happy New Year!
I been messing the Gran Turismo for ages and ages, Alon is kinda right, you only really need six gears because the curve is a worm gear, so it don't do crapola past 30 degree incline, you might save one dollar for 2mph. Sure ain't win no race with no 8 speed. Just got my hand controls installed in my luxury van, only problem is the accelerator is hella touchy, gotta hold my vape so my hand don't shake.
Speaking of driving fast cars slow v slow cars fast (totally agree) there's a further dimension to that. Out in the desert it may be possible to ignore this a lot of the time, but here in the more densely populated Midwest, it seems that you need to make a choice between looking fast and going fast. If you do both, you end up losing your license. So I never ever prioritize performance when I purchase a vehicle. I prioritize something else I value like payload or reliability or simplicity, then I learn to drive it as hard as I can. If you look boring enough, the cops won't look at you. Unless you do something really spectacular. I am convinced I have more fun in my Toy pickup than supercar drivers.
One of the very best car reviewers on UA-cam. Thorough, authentic and absolutely enjoyable. Excellent review.
The logo at the center of the steering wheel is 4 dots, which is the letter H in morse code. The fabric square on the left of the dash is not a speaker, there's a metal plate behind the fabric so you can use magnetic accessories (like sunglasses holders)

I love how Sarah always chooses an outfit that colour matches the car and theme of the review. Just another way to show us her attention to detail.
Sarah has style for miles
I bought a Kona last year and my wife and daughter are very satisfied. Hyundai Kona is a vehicle that I would really recommend.
The "Oh Shit!" breaking test was unexpected, but made me laugh. Take care of yourself Sarah and have a good new year.
11:19 the bar on the steering wheel with the 4 dimples/dots are representative of an H in morse code. I think Hyundai debuted that design treatment on the Ioniq 5, in keeping with all of it's pixelated elements

I second that! I had a first gen Scirocco, it was slow but handled really well and was so tossable! FUN!

Well, yes and no. I drove a 3-piston Chevy Metro. Stick-shift 4 speed? And that was somewhat Fun, to drive. As my delivery car.
Just the greatest content and creator! Sarah is Numero Uno! 😊❤️
And nobody looks better in stiletto heels 😘
🏁
Sarah knows how to accessorize!
Perfectly styled outfit and heels!😍
Had to watch this twice to actually focus on the usual great review.
Stay quirky🤪
Sarah always dresses to match the vehicle. So the Kona N line is 🔥🔥🔥? Either way, I too had to replay the video from when those shoes came into the shot.
Youve done it again. You gave us facts, opinion and laughs.
You are the best.
Be well. Rest up...2024 is sneaking up on us.
Some might say the Kona N Line has ... a new level of confidence. And power. Such ... adequate power.
"Sound system didn't stand out until I listened to Pantera..." As if I couldn't love you more, you never fail to make my day!

Oh yeah killing with the most ugliest designs ive ever seen makes the modern chevys look nice 💀
Great review. Thanks!

Best Christmas present ever... a new Sarah video! I thought that thing was going to catapult you in the braking test.
Sarah is awesome.!
FYI, The steering wheel logo is 4 dots, which is Morse code for "H". 🙂. Great review! I have the Limited version and it is 99% the same as the N, but the rear hatch does have auto open and has power open/close.
The 4 dots Hyundai use are Morse Code for “H”
Nice catch.
Thanks for posting over the holidays. We appreciate you.
I had a 2006 Chevy Aveo for commuting. As you noted although it was gutless it was also fun to drive. It had a five speed which certainly helped.

The bar with dots on the steering wheel is morse code for H. For Hyundai
Driving a slow car fast. YES! One of the reasons I love my Miata
Very Christmas, Sarah, red Hyundi, red matching top from you and another no holds, dam straightforward, extremely technical and funny car review, thanks Sarah that's made my Christmas 😂👍👍👍
For sure!✌️
Sarah's outfit 👗😻
."in a supercar you're just paying attention not to die". LOL! Your quotes from this video are superb, Sarah! Bravo!

Thanks!

Yay ! A Sarah vid 🎉
I love your review. I just found your channel and I love it! Really great information not found on other reviewers and so funny too! Keep em coming!
Sarah you've been BUSY ! Can't wait to watch this !!❤
Sarah, you should do one of those TV shows where you have a team that restores cars. I'd watch.
TV is dead
Motor Trend TV claims 26 million viewers per month. Sounds like its far from dead.
We have the 1.6 turbo engine in the Kona in the UK, but AWD is not available here.
But it is available in certain EU markets, such as Germany, Poland, Greece and Spain.
Thanks for giving a very brutal but straightforward review. If I was in the market for a cheap car this would be adequate.
Clearly the little Kona needs a 1.8 and possibly lowered stiffer suspension to really hit the mark, but well done Hyundai all the same. Another excellent review Sarah. Merry Christmanses and Hippy New Years. 🍻🐧❤🥂

Once again I must commend your marvellous colour coordination with said vehicle on test. Both accurate and elegant on this occasion 👏🏼
I love that you quoted weight savings twice 😄
because satire lol, its not very light.
I have a 2021 Kona. BEWARE: this thing burns oil like nobody's business. Get your oil changed every 3000 miles, not every 5000.

Kia! Too bad it’s a Kia! 😂
This is the coolest review I ve seen in a car
You are the best Sarah.
I like the nubbin shift doohickey!
Reimagined!
Thanks Sarah ⛄🐧🌻
You and Sir fruit cake are really making a great team. Sarah’s trademark quirky bits have somehow even improved.
I always love the flying finger, Sarah.

subbed because your banter is A+
and now the engine science wtf cool

Always top tier drip in ur car reviews
Hey Sarah, great review love the color on this one. Great common sense remarks. Hope your Christmas was fun. Can’t wait for the next one.🐧🐧🐧👍
Sarah, you nailed it!Happy new Year. Loved the outfit.
Your car reviews are so cool and you’re so beautiful it’s awesome

100% agree on underpowered cars are more fun and with less consequences. That goes double for bikes.
Whoah the suspension on that little car was working hard!
It's nice to see properly tuned ride quality in a wee family wagon like that.
The bit in the middle of the rear bumper is the push out for when a tow bar gets fitted.

Hi Sarah..I Love How you Color Coordinate. Gorgeous!
Happy 2024 like it like the style
I love my Kona! 👍🏻👍🏻
Sarah is so freekin 🔥🔥🔥
Your reviews are always the best.

Great review Sarah. Luv your outfit. ❤
I know what you mean about driving a low-powered car.... I had a Vega that was so much fun to drive in the local hills and mountains.......

Almost bought a Kona in 2020, but the salesman sucked and I drove to Subaru and got a Crosstrek instead.
Hesitation is from the torque converter spool, but I'd take that any day for reliability over dcts
Once again Sarah you entertain and inform with a smile Thank you enjoy the wonderful year ahead 🎉❤
Have you ever done a night time review behind the wheel with head lights on? To see how the LED projector lights work in areas on un lighted streets.
*11:14** they said four points on those logo is H letter in morse code...*
Not a speaker next to the screen. It's nothing. If it's metal like the I5 It's a great place to add a phone mount.
Brilliant job with the review
Great content, great video's, fantastic presentation... but enough about me, love this channel too....😁

Sarah looking classy in this one !👍🥰
Yes with a fast car you can use all of the power some of the time, but with a slow car you can use all of the power all of the time.
I was considering the 2024 Kona when I was car shopping but decided on the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek instead, still the Kona is a cute little car.
I got the chevy trax
Is the engine 1.6l or 2.0l (1999cc?) Both were mentioned.
1591cc haha, I reviewed two cars that day and fuck up memorizing data sometimes its a ton to remember all in one breath.
I like Hyundai and you look great dressed up Sarah.
For a first car, I would probably get the SEL or the base trim. It's a subcompact car that deserves to be on most people's top 10 list.
