His smile was priceless! You're doing a great thing playing west African music on the Djembe. You can tell that he appreciates how you demonstrate his culture.
Michael Markus was my first djembe teacher; M'bemba Bangoura was my third! My first two trips to Guinea in the late 90s was with these two! These two are two of the greatest resources of djembe knowledge and playing mastery anywhere in the world!!
That’s the type I’ve played before, drum circle, was an amazing experience actually. 15 beginners or so more or less playing Simon says with a instructor.
Hm its easy if you have other players. In orchestra i am that. It was hard. But then she said you just do the rhythm. So I am now like sooo good at it! EDIT: How long have you been doing this. Your like professionals
Can't hear the great bass sound from a djembi that size. I know this is an old post but does anyone know where I can order a large solid hard wood djembi safely?
larry ballard can they be trusted? Cautious buying over the net. Wal-Mart messed me up big time. They have a djembi maker here in Hawaii Maui, the look incredable and sound fabulous on youtube, but I think expensive plus different island.
Some of the reliable online sources for African made drums: www.drumskulldrums.com/ www.djembedirect.com/ wuladrum.com/ www.africaheartwoodproject.org/ (has low priced drums) For decent lower priced rope tuned drums not made in Africa google Meinl djembe and Tycoon Djembe - both are available on Amazon.
Howcast, could you please ask Michael Markus if he still sells his instructional cds.....can't find them anywhere!!! If so, could you please post a link. Thanks!
This is something that it's already built in , If you need some kinda training to do this, you don't belong in this line of interest, go flip a burger or something!

The only way to teach djembe is to give someone the drum and let their heart lead the way. Don’t try make it a science 🧫. It’s not.

Jane Hallett yes, because he’s the djembe expert- why are we learning from a beginner?
How do you know he's a beginner? He's obviously got some speed. And this is a beginner's lesson. It's natural he'd play that way.
