  • Fly fishing for King Salmon!
Today we are fishing the Oregon Coast for Chinook salmon with fly rods. What a blast! We caught around 15 Salmon, ranging from 5lbs to 30lbs. The flies used were leeches, clouser minnows, comets, zonkers, shrimp patterns, and a few other patterns. The bite was on in the morning, slowed down during the middle of the day, and heated up as the sun set. We fished a single river in this video but multiple in the whole trip. The Northern California coast and Southern Oregon Coast are home to many good salmon rivers, harboring chinook, coho, steelhead, and coastal cutthroat trout. To name a few, there is the Smith River, Klamath River, Chetco River, Rogue River, Pistol River, Elk River, Sixes River, Coquille River, Coos River, Millicoma River, Umpqua River, Suislaw River and many more in between.
    A few notes:
My dad caught and bonked a chinook before we got to the spot, that’s why there is a fish already on the bank :)
The only wild fish we kept was the largest, about 30lbs. It was my buddy’s first salmon on the fly so he decided to keep it, otherwise we’d probably not be keeping such an amazing fish. The other fish we kept were all hatchery fish.
A few of the Rod/Reels used:
    Pflueger Medalist
    Hardy Perfect
    Scientific Anglers System 8
    Maxcatch Premier
    Maxcatch Extreme
    Music:
    Lakey Inspired - Blossom
    Lakey Inspired - Better Days
    Prima - June gloom
    Gyvus - Lemon Tea
Kanye west - Real Friends (instrumental remake)
Thanks for watching!! Steelhead video coming soon...

Freaking A right on guys. I freaking miss these days, unfortunately my local river in Northern Cal have plummeted so harsh over the past 15 years. With too many people taking the rivers water, drought and the impact of years of vineyards, legally we can’t even target my home waters Chinook. So sad man, not to say that I don’t travel farther north and smack the Nooks, but watching you guys here as kids reminds me of what me and buddy’s, or me and my pops could do daily in a 20 minute drive to the local spot. Anyways keep it going boys, I not only love salmon and steelhead, I literally build my life around them. Looks as if you guys are on your way as well.

Yeah it is sad how the feather went to crap thank DWR . But as for the American they had hella fish return last year 2023 in fact there was still spawning chinook until march. And I have to say since the revitalization of the spawning grounds and the enhancements they added the steelhead return was impressive first time seeing g fish equal to those in size of the smith and mad

Awesome video. Quick question though, as I am new to the sport. The fish that Mitchell caught looked like it had a fully grown adipose fin, which I thought was the indicator for wild fish vs. hatchery fish which have clipped adipose fins? Is that true, or am I completely missing something?
