    Thanks, John
    Glad you picked Musar; it is fantastic when fully mature. I had a 2002 a couple years ago and it was outstanding - I also have some 2004, 2005 and 2009 in the cellar. The white is interesting - I had a glass with one of the lunch courses at L'Enclume earlier in the year and enjoyed it.
    I like Amarone but as an occasional treat.
    South Africa is a bit of a closed book to me but I did invest in a couple of half cases of Meerlust en primeur (2015 and 2017) a few years ago. I also enjoy SA chenins.
    Portugal is producing some really good reds and Quinta do Crasto is definitely one of them.
    Love Hungarian dry furmint. Assyrtiko can be variable but that's probably because I don't spend enough on them.
    Very interesting. Thanks.
    A day off the booze today but a Ribera del Duero with pheasant is on the menu for tomorrow.

    I dare say, this is one of your best, most brilliant, and most impressive UA-cam videos ever. I agree with you on everything here including on your points about Chianti, Amarone, Portuguese reds, and Hungarian Tokaji Furmint. And I greatly appreciate your discussion of South African wines including wines and producers from Swartland. I’ve been hoping to find good Greek wines but the options in my country are virtually non-existent. Last but certainly not the least, this video shows an excellent and incomparable depth of research, expertise, and experience with superbly written and clearly presented insights, reliable information, and authoritative advice and recommendations - it’s absolutely mind-blowing. Felicitations et Santé, John!

    I had the pleasure of recently exploring the Vega Sicilia line up led by Pablo Alvarez from Tempos, he is one of the #1 proponents of the quality of the wines from Tokaj.
    Some of the wines served were the Mandolas, and the Petracs both were dry furmint. After trying dry furmint for the first time, I fully concur. Very interesting and collectible white wine, and I don’t drink white often! Also looking for one with some bottle age now.
    Really interesting to see where the region is going, as there are a lot of discoveries still being made (or re-made) due to the impact of communism in Hungary’s agricultural practices.

    John, I am impressed with the wealth of information you provide in this video. I agree Chateau Mûsar doesn’t get the respect it deserves, and I was not aware of a white variety. I am glad to see you feature SA wines as well. I enjoy their MCC sparkling wines and their Chenin Blanc. I am familiar with quite a few of the grapes that you mention, and I feel like this is a comprehensive wine course. I am definitely on team “Amarone”. Thank you for all your research and your vast wine knowledge. Cheers!!

    Excellent video and one , I think you will agree, falls into my interest. Let's think about the title. Underrated and Collectable. There are so many underrated wines out there but are they collectable? I think many of them could be but not necessarily investable. I guess what I'm saying is why do we buy wine? People like me want to buy it and enjoy it but there are those that consider it an investment.
    I agree that Chianti has many underrated expressions but, here I go again, what about Spain? Honestly, there is so much stunningly good value wine in that country but is it collectable and should it be? I feel as though it's the country to enjoy wine the way we should and I mean that without being disrespectful to its wine. I know that it can be collectable and I have a good many in the bunker. However, it's the issue of 'underrated' that piques my interest.
    Cheers,
    WT

      Thanks very much for watching and the thoughtful feedback! For me, collecting is almost always for personal use, so I consider age-worthy wines as being collectible. This was a supplement to my 8 Key Categories video which heavily featured Spain, but certainly there are some I could have included here too - eg, Godello. I’m definitely a big fan of Spain and very much appreciate the abundance of well-priced wines ready to enjoy. Cheers!

  • @renderwood
    @renderwood Рік тому +1

    Very solid choices, I do agree with many of them! Is Chianti underrated not in Europe at least but maybe it's representation is not as good in US? Also you didn't have any French underrated ones, those do exist as well.

    • @AttorneySomm
      @AttorneySomm  Рік тому

      Thanks very much! Appreciate your comment. This was a supplement to the 8 Key Wine Categories video that I did and I mentioned many French wines there, but yes I could include Jura and others as well. I think Chianti as a collectible is underrated at least in the US. Here many just use it as a daily drinker and not one to enjoy with age. Cheers!

    Hello attornay. Could you recommend 10 vines at 13%or less alcohol? Too many wines are 14+% alcohol, don't you think?

    • @AttorneySomm
      @AttorneySomm  Рік тому

      I’ll certainly give it some thought. The ABV definitely makes a big difference. Most reds are 13 or higher. Champagne is less for sure. Lower ABV is also getting harder to find with global warming. Lots of 15% even for Chardonnay in California. Crazy.
