That accident isn't his fault. It's a crosswalk, and he has the right to cross there. Any car approaching has to be watching for pedestrians. In addition, the car behind was clearly following too closely.

This is a cross walk. Drivers are supposed to be alert to pedestrians. Peterson is clearly walking with intent to cross the street. He's walking directly towards the street, at a crosswalk, and legally should be able to cross. Yes, he's not paying attention, but that does not absolve the driver of the responsibility of approaching a cross walk with caution and watching for pedestrians. Anyone who has to slam the brakes on at a cross walk most likely was not paying due diligence to their responsibilities.
As for the car behind, sorry, but I'm afraid that the law says that if you hit another car from behind then you were driving too closely. It is your responsibility as a driver to maintain a safe distance, sufficient to brake if the driver ahead of you suddenly stops. That's the whole point of a safe distance, which every person who learns to drive is made aware of in training. The distance increases as the speed does, exponentially. If this guy hit the car in front of him then ipso facto he was driving too closely.
@Brenton Carter This is a common fault among UA-cam commenters, to judge a situation based on who the person is, rather than the facts at hand. If this had been AOC or someone on the left that you support I'm 99% sure you'd be arguing the case I currently am, and some conservative would be accusing AOC of causing an accident. Perhaps the best approach is to understand the law in such cases.

In all fairness, pedestrians in marked crosswalks have the right of way. It was the rear vehicle's driver who'd be found at fault.
True. And the cameraman was the catalyst. It's one thing as a driver to see a pedestrian looking as they're approaching the walk. "We see each other" It's another thing entirely when someone is quickly headed toward the street with his back to you. And he steps out farther than the pedestrian watching.
Cameraman stepped out. Jesse Lee stopped. Also, the collsion was in 3 lanes away and rear ended a car that was stopping. Most likely the driving not paying attention when driving.

I hate to say it, but I agree. Thought his actions were gonna be much worse based on the title, but he approached the crosswalk at a normal pace and never even actually entered the street when the accident occurred. I can't in good conscience blame the accident on Jesse, though his reaction to it (or lack thereof) was a bit disturbing.

Exactly my thinking here too. I think, if anything, its more likely to be the cameraman’s fault as he was walking into traffic, filming JLP, with his back to traffic. We can’t see his footing, but he potentially was in traffic and not looking at the flow of traffic as his focus was on JLP.
Also I do believe he probably should have stopped and checked on everything considering he was a witness, but again so was the cameraman. Neither stopped to check it out. But no one seems to be mentioning the cameraman when it comes to this fault and responsibility.
All of that said, I despise JLP, find him ignorant (either willingly or otherwise) and condemn him for all of the harm he has caused to the LGBTQ community. ESPECIALLY if these allegations are true. Truly disgusting.

I love it too! Regarding JLP being "handsy" with DP or any person, I would like to know more specifics, in the public interest. JLP demonstrated no respect for personal boundaries in a way that's on a spectrum of nonconsensual behavior. Others may be at risk of more serious behavior that is sexual harassment or worse. It's not clear if the car was stopping to avoid Peterson or the cameraman, who was also moving toward the road, presumably with his back to the cars. It was also in the far lane, so a small chance it was unrelated.
You're the first one I saw make this more accurate point. So many biased people willing to see what they're told to see, not what actually is happening. This is why we lose to the right. We're not so good at accuracy the same as the right isnt. But at least the right has cooperation on their side.

The title made me assume that he ran across the road illegally, but he just walked over a zebra crossing at a calm pace, so while he may have been a contributing factor for the accident, it's quite a stretch to say he caused it. As much as I hate to say it, it's the driver who's going to be charged with causing the accident. That's a clearly marked pedestrian crossing. If you go to Google Maps and look at the intersection from the car's point of view, there are three signs highlighting the crossing, two of which specifically say that it is state law that vehicles have to yield to pedestrians.
That's why the "Do Not Tailgate" signs exist. It's always the rear-ender's fault.

He didn't cause the crash. The second driver, by failing to maintain a safe following distance, caused the crash. If the car in front of you stops, you should be able to stop without using the car in front of you to help you to stop.

The driver who rear-ended him is at fault - he wasn't following at a distance that would have allowed him to stop in time if the car ahead suddenly breaks. Never mind JLP, what if a child ran out on the street?

I am a secular, left leaning atheist, so most definitely not a Peterson fan, quite the opposite. However, a couple of thing.
- I really don't like when people follow you and harass you, the way the man who shot the video did to Peterson. I don't like it when the right does it, I don't like it when the left does it, I don't like it in general.
- Regarding the accident, drivers are supposed to maintain safety distance according to their speed that allows them to stop if the car in front of them suddenly hits the break. I suspect the driver did not.
- I didn't see, if Peterson was crossing when a greenlight for cars, he would be partially responsible for the accident, only partially though, like i said, driver are supposed to be in control of their vehicle at all time. That's the way i have been taught to drive.

I would feel worse about him being followed and questioned if he had not had credible allegations levelled against him for sexual assault. And if he had not made a career over spreading hateful bigotry. Under the circumstances, his privacy while in a public space is of no concern to me, particularly when he is simply being calmly asked to answer questions. Regarding the driving incident, nobody can be on high alert 100% of the time ready to react out of the blue. If a pedestrian steps out into fast moving traffic without warning they are definitely responsible for an accident that occurs.
If you hear screeching tires, even the recommended safe distance is not enough.
It appears to me also that the cameraman/interviewer may be just as responsible for creating the situation leading to the accident as Jesse.
