jay k I fortunately have a teacher like charlie's 😊 She is amazing and I honestly have learned so much and grown so much from her classes and her mentoring. I've become a better writer because of her and I'm so grateful for her and the conversations we still have. I don't have her for any classes this semester but she told me to drop in anytime and stay for the class since I have a spare during her class. I'm glad to have had a teacher like that, I went two and a half years without having a teacher to confide in and discuss literature, writing and even life. Venture out you may find a teacher like that.
My English teacher yelled at me for reading during a substitution period because "I could have been completing my homework instead of wasting time". One,it wasn't due anytime soon but I was planning to do it at home. Two,honestly as far as my English skills goes,I'm pretty sure reading is a much better use of my time. I love English,and just language and words in general,I always have. Now,though,I dread learning it in school everyday. I wish school could be a place where we can let out our creativity,not be forced to trap it in from age five.

That was me back when I moved out to a new place. I saw the film prior to high school and after four years I seemed to dislike the school system even more. So I ended up knowing no one. Shame thinking this inspiration would of impacted me. Yet again being a closeted day doesn’t help that me at all. :/
Everything would get better. It's like the song, "It's gonna be OK". There's actually an edit of that song with Perks in it. Anyway, keep fighting and getting better, everyone!

I'm not ashamed to say that about four years ago I did the 'BE AGGRESSIVE! PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE!" at my brothers football game in the stands. Then the guy behind me literally leaped out of his seat and tackled me into a hug and thanked the Lords that there was a strange kid who was willing to quote Patrick from Perks Of Being A Wallflower.

I remember watching this movie when I was a senior in high school and thinking that I will never find friends like that. Then I went to university and met a group of friends who were together since preschool. They accepted me into the group right away. We have so much in common but most importantly we understand each other and care for each other. They helped me get through the stress of university.

If you think that this is another coming of age cliché movie you are wrong. This movie is very special because it's different from everything I have seen before. It really had an impact on me because it portrays adoloscence in a very real way. The casting, the storyline and the soundtrack are amazing and I promise you that if you give this movie a go, you won't regret it. My favourite movie :)
IKR. All the other teen movies are so cliche and filtered. There's the bully, the main character, and the friend, friend and main character stand up to bully, the end. But with this, you get just, URRGGGHHH! I just love this movie SO MUCH!!!!

I am the kind of person that cries in movies... But usually when I have watched a movie for multiple times, I get over it... Yesterday I watched this movie for like the 6th time since it came out and I literally cried my eyes out! I can identify so much with Charlie... It had been really hard for me to socialize... I am much too shy and I don't open up to people easily... Sometimes I think that nothing wouldn't change if I died... like, nobody would actually care.... and felling like this is devastating... Watching this movie now... it's just heart breaking.... They way Logan played that role was brilliant! So truthful! I love this movie so much! And just for everybody out there who now is in that dark place, I'd be happy to let you know that people that care about you exist! You might have already met them.... My best friend practically saved my life when we started tο hang out... She was such a happy and outgoing person and taught me how to be like her, how to be ok with who I am and how to make new friends and be in social groups! She is my guardian angel! She might have migrated far away from me, but she is still "here". And I've also found new people, new good friends... so please, if you fell like all this is too much for you, talk to somebody! Even your parents can help! There is hope out there! There are good people looking for you!

Watching this movie was the first time I ever really understood the effect a movie can have on you. I saw this is in theatres when I was 15 and I felt genuinely changed when I was walking out of it. It was the first time a performance by an actor ever really touched me and made me feel so deeply, Logan Lerman does not get the credit he deserves for Charlie. I'd never connected with an on screen character like that or a movie for that matter. I will always credit this movie as being the first to ever really touch my heart and for making me understand how a truly good film can make a viewer feel. I've been a huge movie buff ever since. It's been about three years since I last watched it. I think I need to revisit my high school love again.
Do what makes you happy. Don't try to fit in to the social norm if it is not what makes you happy. Enjoy your youth being you.

Sad this never changed me but I did like the film. Hated school from beginning to the end because everything here just didn’t work.
From teachers telling me I’d fail to my mental age being more “mature” than most kids o felt disconnected. The lack of humanity just made me static and boring. It’s as if I was Dr. Manhattan observing the conflicts of interests of humans amongst one another. Perhaps you can call it sad but that was my reality. A boring and forgetful waste of time. It was only my own interests that allowed me to move on.
usually i REALLY hate the protagonist in books/movies but i LOVED this one. Charlie was so amazing
I loved it because Charlie was real. He was a teenager who loved and made mistakes. He wasn't perfect and that made him perfect.

After watching the movie, I realized how much Charlie and me are alike. Introverted yet has a good heart. I don’t ever want to hurt someone even if it means it pains me more than anyone could ever feel. No matter what I say or act, always know that all of it are good intentions. I will literally apologize non-stop if I hurt someone because it will never make me feel better until I know that they are better. The way Charlie acted in the movie was presented perfectly on how I could’ve acted if I hurt someone. I will literally apologize a thousand times, and I will only stop until I know that everyone is okay with me. I know it sounds selfish. If they need me to stay away, I will, just know that “we” introverts will never forget and will always feel the grudge of not being able to make it up with you.

this movie rocks...like seriously, honestly rocks. it is so real and so honest, that you cant help falling in love with this movie. brilliant acting done by logan lerman, emma watson and ezra miller. this movie has the perfect combination of laughter, love, and tears. you feel alive while watching this movie. i have never been that shy or had difficulty with my life,and i have always had great friends, and a great family who has always supported me, but still i could relate to this movie somehow. its just beautiful how sam and patrick make charlie more "participating". this movie just shows you that even if you feel like your life is like hell, and that you feel like you just cant take it anymore, there are always some people who will do anything to make you feel better and that things will EVENTUALLY and ALWAYS get better. but seriously guys, stop comparing this movie to percy jackson and harry potter, this is completely different. although, i must say that the chemistry between logan lerman and emma watson is amazing and between logan lerman, emma watson, and ezra miller too the chemistry is great. and yeah this movie is seriously underrated and i feel like more people should know about, and watch this movie. its was a pleasure watching this :)

Like many commenting on this, I was the definition of this kid, but with crippling social anxiety that caused me to nearly flunk out of school from fear of going to class and shit. Then I graduated and met the right people and realized being ugly was a matter of my own perception. If you feel ugly and hate what you see in the mirror so much you wanna cut your face off, chances are you have a form of Body Dysmorphia. It's treatable, but the best treatment is free, and comes from meeting people who not only accept you but love you for how you look, and love your flaws. They're out there. No matter how much of an introvert or socially terrified you may be, if you take that first step out into the world and let yourself be seen and interact with others, you WILL meet people who not only like you, but who will love you someday.
If all else fails, talk to a therapist and get prescribed anti-anxiety meds like I did (Xanax), it helped immensely with the social anxiety. It vanished. It enabled me to get out of my own head, feel like everyone else does (calm), and comfortably put myself in social situations, where I met everyone that ever changed the way I felt about myself, for the better.
Also, this was all shot in Pittsburgh, and after living there for 3 years and moving away, I can NOT wait to move back. I love that city.

Couldn't have said it better myself! I had immense anxiety when it came to social situations all throughout High School until near the middle of Senior Year...The "Social Group" that I was in that did not talk to me nor did I talk to them(I basically was in it because I had an old middle school friend in there before I got social anxiety) did not like this change or did not seem to talk to me more because of it(which didn't give me much practice) so I started to talk to other people more rather than them. I formed my own social group with these two other guys who I really connected with. I wish I could have had more time with them, they were the best, especially my best friend who sadly was a grade lower than me and not part of the social group. Even though I was leaving these new found friends to move on to college, I learned that I can find people who love me for who I am, something I thought was impossible before. College started, and I made plenty of friends(well I needed a bit more practice once I started college, so it was a rocky start, but it ended quickly as soon as I got the hang of it, so people really didn't get bothered by it). More than I could imagine. Getting out and taking that first step to a social interaction can lead to possibly the banishment of your social anxiety, or at least diminish it. It did for me. I am glad I took the first step before college started because I really wanted a fresh start, and what better way to prepare by practicing and letting go of my social anxiety. Still get anxiety when I am in new social situations, but overall I am better than ever! This is why I loved this movie. He got friends that let him in based on who he was, the real him, not the fake him(which honestly I was being fake before college/senior year of high school because I thought no one would like the real me, but I found friends and a best friend who do!!!). Made me cry as well to be honest. Please guys, don't wait, take that first step towards a better social life.
The problem is Xanax is a benzodiazepine which doctors are reluctant to prescribe because of it's addictive quality and withdrawal effects. You are far more likely to be put on something like SSRIs which are so slow acting that you just end up losing hope. I have been on three different SSRI's already and they simply do not work for me. I am anxious too but my bad posture also likely makes me look a lot more anxious that I am sometimes.

Every young person ever needs to watch this movie.
I recently turned 20 and watched this movie the night of my birthday, and it ended about 30 minutes before the clock hit 12 AM, which was just enough time to collect my thoughts and tissues for my tears. “I didn’t think anyone noticed me” was such a punch in the gut. I was never popular or well liked in school, not the smartest for my curriculum, and my peers just had a general disdain for me, but I also only had two friends I still talk to today. I never had to change for them. They saw me.
As I watched the clock, I took a moment to ache in love for my teen years, about how this chapter didn’t exactly feel like a closing one but turning to a different book, maybe a sequel? Either way, the moment the time turned to 12:00 AM the wave of relief I felt was incomprehensible. I wasn’t ‘clinging to my youth’ like I thought I’d feel or fearing that I ‘hadn’t done enough’ to enjoy being a teenager, I was still me sitting in my bedroom with my camera to log my thoughts and a beer I had snuck upstairs to celebrate on my own-just the way I liked it. I cannot explain how much better I felt not feeling this overbearing weight of my teenhood being ‘unfinished’, how I felt I still needed to do more, go to more parties, do more crazy things, all of that pressure and fear faded away instantly. It felt peaceful. It was a goodbye, but not a sad one. It’s all so worth it, i promise you.

It seems scary but it’s really not, it feels a bit normal afterwards, but enjoy the moments as you wait to walk across the stage, all the whispers and cameras included. i went out to eat with my family at one of our favourite restaurants and then hung out with my friends, talking about everything about it. good luck and may the time treat you well :)

I’ve been working on the mindset of age being the years of your body while mental age and experience is both ageless and every age at once in its own right with everything life can throw at you. Sometimes I’m 7, 17, and 67 all at the same time honestly, and that perspective helped me put a lot less stress on myself to do more or be more than I think I should to ‘earn my age’. I am the only one who wants a new film with Emma and Ezra together. They have such chemistry. Both weird and funny at the time. they make great brothers and sisters or best friends. A film with the three of them together again would be heaven.
This movie came out right when my senior year of high school was ending- already so much meaning attached to that. But the author also went to my high school and had the movie filmed in our town. It was one of my favorite books growing up because it hit so close to home, and then the movie happened, and it was almost too much to handle lol. The nostalgia when I watch this movie is overwhelming, but comforting. Imagine your high school experience projected on screen...damn

I cried in the whole movie because I have never read the book and I can relate too much to it. I have a friend that committed suicide even though my friend always told me to keep looking at the bright side and my friend saved my life but don't you ever feel so miserable for knowing the fact that someone saved you while they didn't..? its been really hard for me to bond with people but lately I have me 4 amazing people that would always be there for me and wouldn't really act different after knowing my past because I don't need any special treatment about it, all what I have always wanted is to be treated like anyone else and they made it possible. With movies like these, its often that people say that it is unrealistic, because no one would be lucky enough to have the friends that Charlie had. I think its more of an advertisement for the people who are capable to be more like Patrick and Sam. We need more people like that in our world.
I remember before my freshman year started, I watched this movie, hoping I’d have friends like Sam and Patrick. I ended up having a year sosososo close to Charlie’s. I had English for the last hour of the day, and I became really close with that teacher, I was taken in by the greatest senior group, I fell in love, but I also went through the toughest time (I won’t go into details). I just recently watched the movie again since I’m graduating in a few months. I had that warm, happy feeling in my stomach. High school has been such a rollercoaster of feelings, happenings and everything else, but freshman year stands out for me. It’s this movie that makes me remember all of the great times I had with my friends, and everything we went through.
I’ve watched it prior to high school but my antiquated life along with a lack of modern cellphones to the repeated courses I had to take because I moved to a new school district did not help create this reality. School only was met with tears.

I just wish to meet a Charlie someday and become great friends. I would love him. But think about it, a lot of people could be a Charlie to me but just too many people I talk to don't open up. Like they are too scared to let someone in their life.
Seeing this movie, I felt terrible afterwards because it reminded me of all the times I missed out making memories with friends because I had to study and work all the time. But, I still have Senior year, and I've promised myself I'm going to try my hardest to make as many memories and do as many things with my friends as possible with the time I have left.

This movie has impacted me so much, I come back to this trailer every few months, the light that shines on someone like Charlie in this movie helps give way to understanding of what it is truly like to feel alone or hidden at times, especially during teenage years. I love this book.

This movie is beyond relatable it’s actually terrifying how accurate this movie was for me. Some of the lines Charlie said when he was having a breakdown were literal things I remembered saying myself. The whole part where he blamed himself and felt like the reason his aunt died reminded me so much about my own relationship with my mother. Although you know someone hurt you, you still feel like you love them because of the history and moments you’ve had together.

This movie is so beautiful, it makes me feel like I am right there with Charlie and I understand everything what he says.. It's so powerful, this movie can make you smile and cry at the same time. Time and again I revisit this trailer and remember the time I read the book and then later saw this movie. The depth of this movie is profound, the dialogues and quotes from the books are amazing. There are so many layers to it and the character development is really well written!

This trailer makes it out to be this happy, high school movie but in reality it tears your heart and stomps on it. Then it burns your heart and dances on the ashes.

To those out there that feel like Charlie does (and just by scanning through the comments section, there is/used to be A LOT), I know it can be extremely hard for some people to socialise and to just put yourself out there for whatever reason (I was a lot like this in school), but there is NOTHING wrong with you! We can't change who we are or where we come from, but we can choose the road we take in life and our destination! EVERYBODY has their insecurities, and when you go out there into the world, just know that everybody else is thinking about themselves just as much as you are; we're all self conscious when we interact with different people! It's OK to be self conscious; it's normal to care about your own appearance the impression you give off. But please just learn to LOVE those things about yourself that you're uncomfortable with! YOU'RE AWESOME! WE'RE ALL AWESOME in our own way, let people see that! Turn those negative things into things to be proud of! If we we're all the same, the world would be a worse place than it is! Go out and flaunt your uniqueness, show the world how awesome you are! Make others smile and make yourself smile! Don't let others get you down, you don't deserve that. If someone says something bad about you, then they've got a problem, not you!
If you do honestly feel like this, then PLEASE just put yourself out there, it will surprise you just how easy it is, I promise! Brush aside all those negative thoughts, they're nonsense. Embrace those things you're insecure about and if you're with the right people , they WILL love you for it! We're all the same; our consciousness gets us all down from time to time, you just have a few more grey clouds in the sky than the average person, but the blue skies are still there!
