In this video, Lloyd teaches you how to do the t stop. The t stop is one of the many ways of stopping on the ice. Sometimes beginners find it easier than a snowplough stop, but normally find it more challenging. The basic version is performed dragging the back foot across the ice to slow your speed down. The more advanced version involves using the outside edge of the back foot to slow the speed down.

I always think a T-stop looks more professional than a snowplough stop

We would tend to agree with you, but it is a more advanced stop also

I'm thinking the same too and wanted to learn it too, but i'm practicing snow plough now, some of my skater friends looked at me like alien, said snow plough is for ice hockey (-.-") they all only doing T-stop.

@@bzyhc126works if you are 5 y.o. not five ft tall. Trust me. Start skating as an infant!! Anything over 20 y o you are fooling yourself. Or skate full of liquor for confidence

I learned the T-stop before the snowplow. I found snowplow to be more difficult! 🤣 Eventually I do want to learn the T-stop with just one foot, or place the stopping foot in front. 😵 But right now, I feel it's too difficult!

We often find its 50/50 in regards to which stop people learn first. Learning to slide the foot across the ice doing a snowplough stop will help you do the one foot Tstop.
But this takes time as it is quite an advanced move to learn! Start moving slowly and build up speed with it from there. As soon as you get the feeling of the blade sliding sideways across the ice, you know you're getting there.
Any questions, feel free to ask us :)

How to you avoid falling backwards since you have to lean back during the stop?

Thanks! I'm that pivoting person! So I put that stopping technique to the side in favour of edge work for now.

Sometimes working on something else for a bit can help avoid getting frustrated! You can always go back to it another day and try again.

I want to learn the T stop because I find snowplough and hockey stop pretty difficult and need a way to stop before learning hockey stop so I don’t chop small kids hands off

I find this really hard. My foot judders across the ice and then I nearly fall.

Is that when you're trying the more advanced version? (stopping with the outside edge). It is not easy to do the advanced version of this stop. If the foot is juddering, it's because the angle of the blade is not quite right as it touches the ice and too much pressure is applied to this incorrect angle.
Try having the stopping foot slightly more upright as you start the stop, and apply less pressure in the the ice. More pressure can by applied once you feel the blade is correctly scraping the ice.

Ice Coach Online nope just the basic foot drag to stop slowly. I’m trying to pass level two but my coach Insists I have to do t stop and snow plough? Thank you so much for replying, I’m living in Bristol but training in Swindon. Adult learner here too!

@@strecosplays4670 that's surprising that you are being made to do a Tstop in order to pass skate UK level 2. Last time we checked, Tstop is not taught until later in the course. Perhaps this has changed recently and we are unaware of it.
As for your problem on the Tstop, it is hard to say without seeing it for myself. However, I would hasard a guess that you are putting too much weight into the stopping foot. If about 90% of your weight is on your standing leg and 10% is on your stopping foot, it should be okay.
If it is hard to do this, you need to work on your one foot glide more so that you are more stable when attempting the Tstop.
      Hope this helps!
