    In this video, Jono teaches you how to do continuous outside edges along a straight line on the ice. This is a great move for beginners to learn as it teaches the importance of preparing for your next step when skating.
    If you do not prepare for the next outside edge correctly, the exercise becomes very hard. This can be tricky at first as there is quite a lot of things to at the same time during each outside edge, so it is easy to get muddled up.
    To succeed, you must understand the concept of how your arms move in unison with your feet.
    Once mastered, it can be a very satisfying move to do.
    This basic concept of preparing for the next step is one that will be used often in more advanced ice skating exercises.

    I was taught to start with same arm forward as skating leg on outside edges, but you show opposite arm as inside edges. Thank you for your excellent, helpful videos.

    thank you so much, this channel is everything!!
    I started skating not so long ago, and I’m having a hard time holding my outside edge. I can’t figure out if it’s my balance I or it might be because my feet are a bit flat (slight over pronation)? will I ever be able to do this move, and could you do a more detailed video on outside/inside edges? thank you and have a great day! 🙏 ❤️

      We're happy to hear you're enjoying this channel!
      Don't worry, most people struggle to get fully over the outside edge at first. This is normal and will improve over time with practice.
      If you are flat footed like myself (Lloyd), extra attention needs to be paid to making sure your ankle is not rocking in! (check our video explaining this). Also you need to make sure when you push onto your outside edge, your weight gets fully over the skating foot and into the circle. If you leave you weight out of the circle, you will not be able to hold the outside edge!
      Hope this helps!

    You are the best instructor! Thanks!
    Just some feedback, I have a hard time following the other instructor who is dark haired. He gets a little lost in his instruction like he sees it in his head and understands himself but doesn't connect as well with viewers and isn't as articulate as you. He shares analogies that aren't always easy to relate to. Also, some of the things he describes are hard to see on camera. You however are always clear, easy to understand, and see, etc.

      I'm probably a bit late, but you always want the counter arm to be in front, so when your left leg is in front so is your right arm and when your right leg is in front so is your left arm.

    • @qizhenvanessali1727
      @qizhenvanessali1727 Рік тому +1

      When you’re doing outside edge, it’s same position to opposite; when doing inside edge, it’s opposite position first and then same. By opposite position I mean skating leg and arm in front is the opposite (left leg and right arm in front/right leg and leg arm in front)

      37 and loving learning this stuff. There are some learner skaters in their 50s and 60s on my rink. It's never too late. I think it gets scarier, though. So, respect older skaters, esp if they struggle - the stakes are much higher.

    How do you do a one foot glide?

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 роки тому +2

      Pick up some speed, bring your feet together into a two foot glide. At this point make sure you ankles are not "rocking in" (check our video on this for more information). Then lift one leg making sure you keep the lifted leg close to the standing leg. Start by aiming to balance on one leg for 2 seconds, then try to hold for longer. Keep you arms out for balance and your chin up.
      We will release a video on this in the future, hope this helps for now - Lloyd.
