    😇Millions of people use blender and there's only 2800 sales for this...come on people...lets buy this! it really does make things ridiculously easier I've been Fiddling with Animaide lately and get all these errors trying to do the same thing...😇

    I'm an animator and I work in Maya and this addon was what made me decide finally learn blender as well, because it's identical to the Maya's animation layer, which is something I use all the time, for so many situations and everyday I have a new idea of how to use it to improve and/or speed up my animations and my workflow. Before I knew this addon existed there was no reason for me to consider learn blender, but now I'm excited to the idea of learning Blender.

      blender already have animation layers with different name. this addon make it more look like maya
      it's called "NLA"

    This addon rocks bigtime.
    And you didnt touch those 2 new options, one that cleans keyframes from mocap data (so you dont have a keyframe on every frame. and the animation layer for shape keys.
    This addon rocks!!! Big time!!!!

      This sounds like another candidate for "do it by default," but give the user the option of taking control of the process if necessary.

      Carlos, I found my way here because I was searching for a video about the Extract Marked Keyframes option. I'm getting an error when I mark key frames and select them and then try to extract. Could you please elaborate? The documentation isn't helpful.

    Thanks! Funny video :) there is actually a solution to the popping of the cyclic animation. If you check the option 'Merge cyclic Fcurve modifier' together with the 'smartbake' option, then it will duplicate all the smartbake keyframes along the timeline (and depending on the modifier properties). So merging the layered animation should be smooth in this case.

    id say the replace option is there for when you want the character to wave with their hands, replacing the default swinging motion from the walk cycle

      R.I.P Tangent indeed :( Unfortunately I don't know if Pixar will switch programs, they're currently using their own proprietary software for animation.

    How do you export a character with the new animation? When I do it, it reverts back to the original animation one imported into a scene :(

    While this is fantastic and all... What happens when new blender updates come out, and the author stop supporting this add on... then we are screwed if we have build our whole workflow around this... Don't give me wrong, this is a MUST HAVE for animators... But I'm afraid to implement this into my workflow, because it's not future proof...
    Any thoughts on this? I would love to hear some

      Hey, yeah that's a totally valid concern. From what I hear though the developer is very active in updating and bringing out new versions with more features, but of course that may not last forever. I'm sure Tal ( the creator of the addon) will get to your question, he's been circulating in the comments 😁

      @@BrianKouhi But again, as an animator this is essential, and something we can’t do in blender right now. Which is the reason I am still stuck in 3ds max, and pulling my hair out every day..
      The question is, if I should wait for Blender 3.0 which has something similar, right?
      And what happens to the animations if I open the scene in blender without the add on?
      I’m sorry for all my question. I’m just right about to the switch and take my whole animation workflow to blender. I just want to start on the wrong foot, if you know what I mean..

      @@reeanimationgaming1034 I have a feeling even if Blender comes out with an integrated version of this, it won't be as good.
      To answer your question, I don't see any reason for your animation NOT to work, if you open a scene without this addon. As far as I know, the addon uses Blender features like the NLA editor and just makes it easier and more intuitive to use, so turning off the addon shouldn't affect anything. (again, if Tal reads this perhaps he can clarify it a bit more).
      At the end of the day, do what you're most comfortable with, but I can tell you right now Blender is on par with Maya, specially now that they're focusing more on Animation, so switching now wouldn't be a bad idea.

      Hi, the addon is based on the NLA, so if you don't have it, it still works and uses only the NLA. You can also still edit it with the NLA, but if you have some complicated layer workflow it will be difficult to work with the NLA and it will have some limitation and miss some features, such as view multiply layer keyframes, reseting value, extracting, etc.
      It includes an auto updater, so you always can get the most recent update.
      Honestly, Blender is developing so fast that it's hard to keep pace. I know that it works with Blender 3.0 but has some issues. I will address them probably only after Beta version is released. Unlike my free addons, a paid addon is normally maintained. If Blender will get some improved animlayer workflow, then I'll probably stop working on it, but right now I don't see it happening, I only know they are going to add some small features to Blender 3.0 such as smart bake

    Hello, wondering if anyone knows the answer to this question about sculpting in Blender, Anyhow I've been working on a sculpt for about 2 months now, everything worked as it should but now for some reason which escapes me the sculpting tool seems to be out of whack it no longer is in sync with one side when sculpting the non-active side no longer follows or mirrors the active side, it seems to have moved down the z axis for example if I'm working on the shoulder the left side messes up the bicep, I've tried going into edit mode picking the vertices and then symmetrize, but that completely destroys the mesh, I've posted the question on Blender stacks 0 answers, anyone else run into anything similar or have an idea what I should try?, thanks

    I'm curious about the onion-skin addons available on Blender Market (and maybe elsewhere). I've always wondered why 3D software doesn't have onion-skinning built in (perhaps because I was surrounded by traditional animators working on light-tables while in art college).
    Perhaps you could review them and let us know which (if any) is/are practical/useful?

      It has more features (slightly different ones), and it's supported by the creator. The Animaide creator unfortunately wasn't able to keep up the updates past Blender 3.3.

    I find having to switch modes to do shapekeys on the animation timeline jarring and kind-of annoying. I hope when they refresh the animation system they integrate it all together.

    Can't find an answer to my question anywhere, and maybe I'm not asking the right question, but I'll shoot my shot here:
    Let's say I have my character animated in FK, mocap style, right. Can I add a layer where I use the IK controllers of my character rig and make adjustments? At the same time that the FK animation is being used? Any help is appreciated, thanks!!

      Don't hold me to it because I don't use mocap a ton, but I don't think so.
      Your rig can either be in FK mode or IK mode, you can switch in between but you can't be in both modes at the same time. So if your animation is pasted into FK then you'll like have to use FK to fix it.
      Someone can correct me if they know more about mocap workflow.

      Hey, we actually do have very in-depth videos on how to use animation addons, including this one! We try and partner with paid addons as-well and offer them at a discount to students.
      In the animation course however, we try not to use paid addons to make sure everyone can follow along.

    Does this all work with the kind of animated characters that you can download from Mixamo? i.e. has it made retargetting via auto-rig etc redundant?

    I've just learned animation layers in Maya and I must say this looks like it's completely ripped from Maya haha. Exactly the same buttons, sliders etc. Which is great.

      Haha it makes sense, since Blender doesn't have a native animation layer with the program, and the only reference would be Maya's. The Creator of the plug-in actually mentioned that he tried to make a better version of Maya's animation layer!

      you can either update with the auto updater in the addon preferences, or if you have a very old version (before the auto updater was included) then you can just download it from the blendermarket, should be in your orders page

    I knew the creator of the Maya Animation layers tool, he was very proud of it at the time lol .. Sure he would be impressed with this :) Question, how would this be used with NLA? Would you recommend one or the other, or using both together?

      My answer would definitely be biased, but I personally don't use the NLA editor very often. So for any layered animation work I use this addon now!

      You can bake the animation before exporting, and you shouldn't run into any issues.

    I noticed they are going to "nodes" for rigging.
    I wonder if animating will get a nodes setup too.
    Like be able to compose them via nodes where you can blend and sequence via node setup for composing animations within one scene.
    At least would allow more with "blending" animations. not sure about vse level (whether that's worth node setup) - I think NLA editor would then go away with a node setup.

      Yep it should work for 3 and 3.1
      Try reopening Blender, and also make sure to have a character selected to see the option for animation layer

      @@BrianKouhi Thanks for the quick reply but I got no luck, the animation layer addon appears on the addon list but I cant enable it, when I tried to do it, an error window pop up and it says this:

      Some thoughts... Do you have a rigged character loaded? Is Blender in Pose mode? Do you have the rig selected?

      Usually the things that are really worth having take a long time create. Lots of investment either in time or money goes into creating them, and it's good practice to support the individual who made that sacrifice.
      That being said, there is a free option that has some features of the animation layers. It's called Anim-Aide ( ua-cam.com/video/r-rFLLkycxI/v-deo.html ). But the developer couldn't justify the work (considering it's free), and so the support for the addon stops at Blender 3.3

      So there isss "Anim-Aide" which I covered a little bit ago, but that one isn't an Animation Layers tool, however, it does let you change a pose, and it adjusts the rest of the animation accordingly. You can watch the video to see what I mean. And it's Free :)

    Just noticed your Animation Course. Does this course 3 levels, because at 395 im not sure an advanced would want to pay for a beginner and Intermediate level. The text doesnt quite explain that part well.

      Hey! the Animation Package does come with Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced lessons, it builds complexity with each lesson so it's more a gradient rather than 3 separate sections. It is just a single package, so an advanced animator likely wouldn't take that package. If you're already advanced, we will offer an "advanced mentorship" package in the future, where you work on 2-3 shots of your own with the guidance of instructors. But that's still in the works :)

      Thanks for the feedbacks Rombout, I'll definitely be adding an "instructor section" in the future, I only just published the courses page haha. We'll also be making a Course Cinematic to both promote TOAnimate and showcase the instructor's animation level. But if you're curious, TOAnimate's created by me and 2 other ex-Tangent Animators, all of us have worked on Maya and the Three (releasing November), which was made entirely in Blender.

      @@BrianKouhi WOuld it be better to divide it into 3 separate modules, priced lower and thus more accessible? The only ones getting true value are beginners. As an intermediate pays same as beginners but doesnt need all those beginners classes. I would thing you would seel more using this approach

    Blender already can do that!!!... HAHAHA, but yes, just use Actions with NLA, not complicated, not fancy eather, but always is good a FREE addon for an OpenSource software... wait, this addon IS NOT FREE???, well, let me stay with Actions and NLA that works perfect and came with the software... these youtube's art gurus are something
