I think those “bad ayam cemanis” are mystic onyx also know as black diamond chicken They have that blackish red comb they sometimes have yellow on them and MOST IMPORTANTLY THEY HAVE 5 TOES AND HAVE MOSTLY BLACK it makes a lot of sense because I got some at my local tractor supply and they were only 5 bucks so the scammers can easily make a quick buck

@@marymacnicol3038 if your looking for black breeds Jersey Giants, Ayam Cemani, Black Copper/Mystic Maran are all good options. However one of my favorite breeds is Silkies. They are fluffy, have five toes and come in a variety of colors (including black) but they also have black skin, meat, bones, and organs!
You really should be calling out ebay sellers like this, they have an obligation to not deceive you.

Exactly, not calling them out lets them keep scamming others, there's no logic in protecting the one who scammed you.
its not scamming its how genetics work. they cant "guarantee" its going to be fully all black. its an egg, how are they supposed to know. genetics dont work that way and say "okay every aspect is going to be exactly what you want".
There are dominate and recessive traits that will come through if luck does not match up

If they are quality stock sold for show quality price, they should have all the traits required & should be guaranteed. But if all or most have undesirable qualities it's inferior stock. To advertise that you have show quality, require the higher price, & not deliver, is wrong.
I bought Cemani eggs from a local breeder. I was able to take a look at all their birds and watched him gather the eggs from their boxes for my order. He was so kind and his birds were absolutely beautiful. When I hatched the eggs I only got three pure black birds out of two dozen eggs, 16 of which hatched. His birds seemed perfect, but there were still issues with feather and comb color like you have. No extra toes on mine though.

@@CC-fo7tr out of the 16 that hatched 13 ended up having color on their feathers and/or comb. Only three turned out completely black like they should. 😔. His stock looked like they were good, but the outcome of the chicks shows that his stock doesn't have good genetics for the breed. Or that at some point a different breed was added. 🤔

If they blocked you and they knew very well review time would run out by the time they hatched and grew I think its safe to say you can put their name out there to prevent others from being ripped off. They knew there was something wrong with the stock or they wouldn't have blocked you. Its disappointing when your expecting a good stock. I only ever ordered Serama hatching eggs from EBay once and I got 50% hatch rate 2 stopped developing half way 1 had no issue hatching and one needed help and has a slight tail deformity most likely from being shrink wrapped and me not assisting fast enough. They are my indoor babies I plan to order more form her Just because 50% hatch rate on Seramas is rare.
I do want to add that I'm part of a few flipping and other eBay seller groups on Reddit. Their mantra almost unanimously is to "block everything." Many will go so far as to block you if you have ANY questions pre-purchase. They have a very pro-block culture. My first thought was that the seller figured this was a buyer trying to get a refund and blocked. However, bad business is bad business and if you can't deal with the aftercare for things you sell that take months to grow, you shouldn't be welling it on eBay, regardless of eBay's review and refund policies. If someone has an issue with your product and they try to tell you, without asking for a refund or return, and you don't listen even for your own benefit: publish the username of the seller. They are simply going to either scam or snub other buyers, too.
@@ElysetheEevee I also sell on eBay and other platforms like Amazon. There is a huge difference between Buyers and Sellers comparing both platform.
eBay is like a Flea market, price tend to by much lower than Amazon for the same products, but quality of service is all over the place.
Amazon is a much more strict platform to sell on, HOWEVER, that translate to higher maintainence fee to run a store. Higher return rate, more complaints, more time dedicated to Customer Service, etc... so many sellers needs to charge more for the same product most of the time.
Sometimes Buyers should just have to do their own research and expect to get what they pay for.
Alot of ebay saler don't expect about complaints from previous customers cause not much will complain if they got scammed. Glad to see you do the opposite and hopefully the saler will STOP
What a great life you are giving your children. My mother remarried when I was nine and prior to that we lived in an apartment. Her new husband owned a farm, family farm with 3000 acres. I now had to learn to be a farm kid and it was the best! Climbing the new hay in the barns and once falling from the top with the hooks in hand and hitting the ground below on my back. Lucky for me the hooks went behind me and there was plenty of hay on the floor to help my fall, lol. I raised pigs for 4H, learned to plant potatoes and carrots and crochet. None of which I did very good at, lol. But it was a good life and one I'd not trade! I know the rooster isn't pure, but he sure is handsome.
Wow I envy you! My family did that in reverse. We grew up on Grandad's farm until I was about 8 years old. He had 3 years of drought so he sold the farm & it became a golfcourse and housing complex. I always mourned the loss of that great life we had on the farm, with many adventures like you had!
@brendaann727 there are food crops you can farm in droughts that probably more profitable. I know a guy up the road that switched to fir trees and he is trippling his profits from his other crops. But depends on where you growing too.

The offer to buy the farm literally came out of the blue, & Grandpa was thinking of the best way to provide for his descendants. It did provide for us, he was trying to do what he saw as best, but our way of life was totally changed. I would love to be there still had he kept the farm.
@@brendaann727 they are planting them so they can harvest each separate field for 7 consecutive years. They made almost 400k of one rotation. they sell hay and rye in the gaps. on the back 40 acres.

Now age 76 yrs, I once bought a hen with five toes. That was 63 years ago. I have since heard that this occurs when cross breeding from silkys. When i think back to my childhood experiences, i remember that the breeder, did have silkys and pheasants of many kinds. May God bless you and your family. Frank Australia.
So sorry to hear you were scammed. It happens every now, and then on all kinds of merchandise being sold. Showing the site, and blocking the name gave an insite on the person/persons. I'm sure they blocked you, and have changing their site info.

You should look into Black Diamond Chickens. I think that might be what you were actually sent instead of Ayam Cemanis. (If you addressed this before, I didnt catch it) I bet that scammer counts on them looking Ayam Cemani enough at hatch so by the time you see the issues, its too late.

For the aviary trees are the most natural shelter that blocks most of the snow closer to the base. But that’s only if you want a more natural look, the more effective option is obviously wooden shelters
trees will also serve to shield the birds from hawks and other aerial predators!
since there's going to be a mesh covering the entire aviary, I don't think aeral preditors are going to be much of a problem. But I like the way you think@@windyface9383

Lots of scammers on cactus seeds too. They take so long to grow, by the time you know what you have, it's too late.
There is a comercial breed named “mystic onyx” it was made with silkie and selected for dark skin. They look a little like Ayams. The roosters have gold or red leakage like your male. They have the extra toe like silkies. Sometimes they have a slight crest like silkies
It’s eBay…of course you were scammed… and further, PayPal helped them. I wouldn’t go near either of them. Scam is synonymous with eBay.
My neighbor used to spray the snow with water at night so that it would freeze on the hill. You want to talk about fast sledding! It was the best.
That roo looks just like one of my mystic onyx roosters. They're good birds, a silkie hybrid. I find them to be a decent dual purpose bird. The roos are mild tempered, the hens are sassy in a humorous way. Mine at least are laying fairly well first winter, no supplemental light and regular ration with a bit of scratch veggie scrap. 👍

I never buy eggs on eBay or any other unknown entity, it is so easy to be scammed . Years ago when I started, I made that mistake. This is not to say I am not bought eggs using the mail. Talking to other members of my chicken club, I get recommendations. In the last few years, I’ve only bought eggs from my neighbors and locally.
I was thinking about you are your family yesterday when I saw an ad in my local sales group for emu eggs! I can't believe they're laying up here in ontario, we just got a foot of snow over the weekend! -22c overnight with the windchill.

You were sold Mystic Onyx instead of Ayam Cemani. Mystic onyx is a cross between Silkies ( extra toes) and a meat type bird. Sorry that happened to you.

It's frustrating as the buyer and the seller sometimes. I only raise one breed of chicken that I've had for years. I've sold some eggs where someone claimed that they all were infertile. Later as I dropped off replacements they told me that the breaker flipped and the incubator was off for a day and half. I've also had people accuse me to selling them mutts instead of purebreds and when they send me the picture it was not my birds. Wrong comb, wrong legs, wrong color. Again, I find out as I supply replacements on my dime that they were hatching several dozen eggs from a half dozen sources.
Now I only sell started birds. It sucks because it's more expensive all around but it wasn't worth the stress.
Just don't give them replacements??? If you know it was a buyer error why would you replace them?

Not sure I would buy eggs off of eBay. There are plenty of breeders that will be recommended on your local FB chicken site.

A lot of people don't know that cemanis were originally bred from silkie stock to get the black skin/meat. Every once in a while you'll have a line of cemani that produce silky traits. You can usually see at hatch if they have feathers on their feet. These feathers do fall off the first week generally, so you have to stay on top of it. You can also see at hatch if they'll have 5 toes. Bear in mind the fifth toe is sometimes obscure, a second claw at the end of the back toe, a minor split at the tip of the back toe, you have to really check the bird sometimes to see it. Buff is the most dominant color and will try to bleed through, so you can sometimes get the coloring on the first bird you showed. That doesn't always show until maturity so feet come as first indicator. Since cemani was bred from silky you can also get lines with the frizzle gene. Frizzle cemani are often popular because it's so rare, but it can happen. I'm not making excuses for your seller, they handled the whole situation wrong and are probably not interested in culling their chicken that is causing issues in the offspring. These things can happen randomly because genes and traits happen randomly so be aware, no matter who the seller is or how good their stock typically is.
My Ayam Cemani’s I love! I have used the same seller with both of my hatches. I think I was lucky. On top of the numerous brooders I have, I was blessed with two roosters. They are the best roosters I have ever had! You originally motivated me to add them to my flock! Thank you and I am glad you are getting some more that will be high quality.
People aren't honest now a days and especially for rare birds its a massive gamble. Ebay sellers {Not all} Can lie and send eggs that are from other breeds and just get away with it. Its very infuriating for breeders. I've always had luck with a local Feed store in my town. Sometimes local sellers are safer.

I work for a major retailer that is getting chicks in the end of January here in my region. We are getting a lot of negative feedback about it being too early. Which brings me to my point.
If it’s too early for chicks then please do not make the purchase, and if you do decide to buy, please keep them indoors or in a warmer location that is not exposed to the extreme temps. They will grow fast and generally chickens are very hearty birds. (We are located at the edge of inter mountain and high plains geographically)

Try and stay warm. It is getting cold down here in SC, looking at 30 ish degrees over the next couple of days and we are getting plastic up on our coop and getting waters plugged in so the water does not freeze.
Your kids got it made! I love the sledding clips. The rooster with the 5-ish weird toes and white mixed is sure is a beauty and cool looking guy. Maybe he and the younger one thats getring some white now could be purchased by a backyard chicken keeper who just needs a good rooster and likea their looks. The ither full black roosters may sell too, not for as much as a full Ayam Cemani chicken but you never know. Some people just want eggs and to hatch some of yheir own chicks. I do appreciate your honesty, always. I also love that you and Becky are trying to raise, hatch and sell pure breed chickens, and I understands why it is important especially with your more rare and almost extinct breeds. I do appreciate those who raise pure breed chick's and love seeing them. All of my chickens would be considered a barn yard disaster, kinda a little bit of every thing. Always like Christmas surprise to see what color combinations etc. I end up with! I give them the love & care they deserve whatever, and they have never refused to help dispose of my kitchen vegetation waste & etc. always rewarding me with eggs & helping control insects. Apparently, like myself, they could care less that they are all mixed up. Just my opinion.....
yea i bought a $900 refurbished car wheel off ebay that said "PERFECT"... when i got it there was the biggest road rash scar. not even fixed, it was like the "fix" they used just fell off. ugh

That’s not kind because of him not doing that guess what that allows them to keep scamming people so that makes him part of the scam for protecting them just like if me and you were together and i killed someone and you were there but didn’t tell them who I was to protect me guess what that gets you a murder charge so now tell me would you take the charge or start screaming my name? Same concept very kind what a joke the blocked him meaning they know they are scamming people it wasn’t an accident
We had a day last winter that was like -10 and I tried to keep all my chickens inside the coop but my two youngest roosters escaped and I tried to catch them but they kept running and when I used a fishing net they flew away into the woods and didn't come back until that night and they had frostbite in their combs real bad and one lost his entire comb and when they started warming back up blood started pouring out of their combs, they did seem to recover but I eventually sold them and hope they have a good home.

I think a gazebo would look really nice in your aviary and for the pond you could have a bridge go across it, and trees would definitely be a nice addition

I've seen so many of these on Ebay and it really makes me not want to purchase any! We'll see what I decide to do in the summer, as I am hoping to hatch some out!
A novel idea would be to start planting the aviary asap so you have cover and plants in there for them to feel safe and have visual barriers.
Maybe start watching some Garden Answer and start planting some natives or Asian plants ...maybe make that an Asian garden.
I am pretty sure that's a black diamond according to mine since they have an orange tint with their plumage. Ayam cemani's are a tiny bit different

My Dad breeds Ayam Cemani, rather successful. That'd never ever happen with his flocks. Both breeding groups are pure black cemanis. He just hatched another batch of 20, and all but 1 came out perfect.

the hen most likely will also carry the color leakage. they do not show it as easily as the roosters but will pass it on.
the extra toe points toward silkie blood having been mixed in.

Thanks for sharing! There's both good and bad to Ebay purchasing. As for myself, I stopped using Ebay years ago, both buying and selling.
As a seller I got scammed out of a pricy unopened kitchen appliance by a buyer who bought it and claimed that it wasn't the product promised. I had two options: Refund the buyer and let them keep the product, or refund the buyer and pay shipping to have the item returned. I paid the shipping to have the product returned out of spite. Not only did I not make a profit, I was in the hole because the shipping was so expensive. And the buyer had the gall to _unpackage everything_ in the entire unopened box! I couldn't resell it for the same "unopened" amount even if I wanted to.
Meanwhile Ebay said sellers have absolutely no protections from such scams. No thanks, Ebay. You're the worst.

eBay sellers also do this with altering on plant pictures their colours to make them sell more even though the seeds will grow regular plants.
Oh my goodness that’s so much fun sledding with the kids. I miss those days only because I’m 67 years old. I don’t think it’s a wise idea to be sliding down a big hill at my age. It’ll be fun but I might feel it for a few days afterwards.😂😂😂

I think that everyone needs to keep in mind that no matter how strict your breeding program is, it is possible to sometimes get individuals that are throw-backs or do not come true to the standard. All domestic breeds are the result of crossing and selective breeding. Follow their family tree far enough back and it will be found that they did not always look the way they do today. However, a serious breeder will always welcome feedback if someone finds faults with their particular strain. If the breeder is aware of the problem they can then closely scrutinize their breeding stock to find where the problem originates. Often the problem can be narrowed to an individual bird which can be eliminated from the breeding program.
Something you have to be careful of. The breeding issues says it is a bad place to buy stuff. Look for better farms online, and ask if anyone knows farms, they may know each other at better sites.

One of the reasons why I miss getting stuff from the store. It's too easy to be scammed on the internet nowadays. It's like as the saying goes, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
I think you should have gazebo in your aviary and maybe a bridge for your pond and some trees
That’s too bad. He seems like an otherwise nice rooster and might make a happy addition to someone else’s mix breed flock. I have a couple “Fibro project” birds (with Svart Hona bloodlines, a very similar breed) one is the original all-black purebred and the other is a black-skinned with blue feathers (I believe her blue coloring comes from one Sapphire Gem grandparent). Both are very interesting birds with black-black skin. Excellent temperament though a little timid in new situations. I love seeing your birds! ❤
Il say this, the best way to insure that you’re getting what you want, especially when buying for pure breed, specific standard, what have you, is to go to a show. This is for Dogs, Cats, Chickens. This way you connect with local people that really breed the animals to pure standard.
