Awesome video! Hardest repair I have experienced, it was on my X337. Nothing like standing your head trying to get the hoses back on the topside. My dealer told me it would take a miracle, he wasn’t kidding.
I did the one on my 331 last fall and wish that I had that tool. I ended up using larger hose clamps to get the bands contracted again and it worked but definitely could have marked up the new bands. There was plenty of access from the top with mine though and that is a good thing because I never would have thought to grab the plasma cutter.
I thought you could turn 16 times! unrelated, how much for your service truck crane in east tennessee? I need to pick the top of my excavator up out of the road
Would it not be safer to use the ring compressor as each o-ring is being installed into the bore , as one would do when installing piston rings into a block?
For self install without a helper. Try a Harbor Freight atv winch with remote control. Hook up to 12volt and use remote to raise or lower unit into place. I have used this method on heavy control values lifting into position while under a machine.
Awesome video, very thorough, great camera angles, explanation on poi t etc. I don't think people understand the money you would have to pay for a course containing this info. Greatly appreciate it!
I wish i would have saw this video sooner. I made the mistake of turning it 14 times and it came unscrewed. Really hard to restart the threads to screw it back on since the house weighs about 5000lbs…
Question.. would warming the outer housing and or cooling the inner housing help? I press pieces of metal into other pieces of metal when I need to sometimes with seals and I use a little bit of heat not getting it super hot but enough to expand the housing say a half thou to 1 thou.. it makes life exponentially easier
What do you think about the after market seal kits? I have a bobcat 325 mini excavator, same issue. What does a job like this cost? If I remove the swivel
What do I do now? I'm not sure if I went 10 × 2 the left or 8 × 2 the right. What if the last guy didn't write it down? The 4 times he went left. I'm so confused😅
...that Swivel Joint, is where the "FM" happens. I heard many complex things called that, when I was working for G.E. Computer Services at DFW Airport. A lot of ex-military guys used to work for RCA/G.E. Computer and Electronics services, many with Radio and electronics military training. I was very naive at the time, back in 1996. I asked one of the Senior techs what "FM" stood for, he replied, that's where the "F@#King Magic happens 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Have a question 2003 mustang 2044 lost all hydrolics moves back and forth fine but dump and lift don’t work I put a gage on the house straight out of the pump and I’m getting 500 psi at full trotle. Think it’s the pump?
It's BS. I don't know why he's perpetuating that myth. It isn't threaded and has no reason to be. You can spin it around all day long if you want. This is evident by the design of the swivel... the channels are circular, not threads
The easiest way to keep track of the rotations is to set a bucket of steam on the counterweight at the start of each job. As the machine turns it spills a little of the steam each time. Keep an eye on the bucket. As the steam gets close to the bottom then you know you only have a few turns left. 😉
@rrrusted2883 I prefer the rope method!! You just wrap your rope around the base 12 times right at the point that the entire cab unscrews itself and falls off, then spin back 12 times until the rope is completely loose!! ...the only drawback is when you go to move and forget to pickup the rope before running over it with the tracks! 😬
It is Ok to use Petroleum Jelly or hydraulic oil to lube hydraulic seals. works good. I worked for Amoco in the RD fuels lubricants division and am Master Certified. Also you can use the looped end of a piece of piano wire looped and crushed in a piece of tubing to ease in seals, or plastic pry for windshield repairs...
Question about case return. I have a 2019 T770 enclosed cab. Is there a case return is there a filter or some type of check valve? I have blown the motor seal on the output shaft on two different disc type forestry mulchers allowing hydraulic fluid to go into the gear box then blowing the bottom seal on the gear box. One Kubota and one Diamond brand mulchers. Mulcher dealers say when the cutter disc gets loader to heavy or stalled the return on the Bobcat is not accepting enough fluid. Any suggestions?
No checks or filter, only main hydrostatic filter. Back pressure on case drain line could get up to 50 psi. Tee in a gauge to the case drain line at the quick connector and monitor pressure. Replace main hydrostatic filter as well.
Bobcat dealer told me that they would have to separate the top on machine from the track frame to replace that joint I see they where wrong. Is it true it will come apart after 13 turns in 1 direction. Have a great day be safe
@@tetradgroup I figure it was a joke but just wanted to make sure cause I didn't want some rookie on my excavator just to see if that was true. Nice video. I Learn something today about how to repair something. Thanks
The swing motor should be with the cab, so it doesn't run through the swivel joint. Yes, it's operated from the control valves (as it's controlled from the joysticks).
... i would think it could, and put the outer assembly in the oven, just set it at the lowest temperature, and lube the hell out of it when trying to assemble it... ✌🏼 A friend of mine did that with a press on ball joint for a power control arm, for a Civic. He lubed it with slick 50 or some Teflon lube, the joint slid down itself into the fitting by itself.
I find it’s easier to jack up the cab and screw the track assembly back if my excavator comes unscrewed. Lately I’ve had to be really careful on rotating around because I lost count.... so hopefully I’m not at 12 revolutions.
I currently have the swivel out of a 2011 E50 for seal replacement. I want to replace all the rings on the fittings. Are the rings standard or metric? Durometer 70? Anything special. I want to use quality replacements as we all no a real pain to access. Any help or suggestions appreciated.
I’m curious..did I hear you correct? The house can be swung 13 times in any direction and it will come loose? Is that a joke or are you being serious? I’ve never heard of anything like this.
The in the field version of this video is probably rated R you're a better man than I !!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to produce this content! Greatly appreciated.
Always enjoy your videos, thanks for the time to make them!
Any serious repair shop should not be without your seal stretcher and clasp. Great idea.

hard plastic wrapped around with a hose clamp will resize rings also

Good info. Now, I may try rebuilding mine.
Great video! Any chance you have a video of a G Series doing this? I have a 329
Where can I find (buy) both the seal stretcher and the clasp tools?
Sou do Brasil e acompanho seu trabalho. Parabéns grandes ensinamentos👏👏👏
I use to make these . Machining and assembly at the bobcat plant in Bismarck ND.
Can you please make a video on the t870 hydraulic track tensioning system. Mine has issues!
We had some issues with those aswell

Tom Scott shows a nice animation on how this works, but for fluids on a roating house.

Does swing motor gets the fluid from swivel or control valve?
The swing motor should be with the cab, so it doesn't run through the swivel joint.
Yes, it's operated from the control valves (as it's controlled from the joysticks).

You should be able to order the seals straight from Bobcat, that way you know you have the correct quality seals.
Thanks! That's exactly what I will do.
How many connections can be obtain on a swivel rotary union?
As many as you want!... until you run out of space because it becomes too large!
Why there is 13 rotation is limited
Just a joke
...because it's an unlucky number... and excavator engineers thought 14 threads would cost too much!
its a rotating oil distributor not a swivel joint 🤣
What’s with this turn 13 times and it unscrewed itself joke being so serious always
Ya’ll keep confusing peeps
you're gorgeous ♡
Why are you perpetuating that myth of unscrewing the cab? That's total BS. You can spin it in circles all day long if you want.
No its not a myth. You can only spin an excavator so many times before it unscrews itself
I’m curious..did I hear you correct? The house can be swung 13 times in any direction and it will come loose? Is that a joke or are you being serious? I’ve never heard of anything like this.
