    Don't forget there are three variations of the 2.1L engine. The E200CDI (136BHP) as tested in this video which is under powered and has a single turbo. t
    The E220CDI (171BHP) and E250CDI (204BHP) are both twin turbo, are much more refined and have plenty of power and are very reliable. I've had both a E250CDI and E220CDI and both were excellent cars and I did big mileages in them. Both were utterly reliable. Only thing to ever go was an air mass sensor. PS there is a forward / back track change on the steering wheel when you have the center display on the radio setting.

      I had C class 220CDI, 170bhp...still massively underpowered...now I drive Lancia Thesis 2,4 JTD, 175 hp, and compare it to MB power unit with the exactly same torque this italian diesel is F1 car it just has the constant torque...and it's such a sophisticated car, full alcantara, extremely comfortable ...got it cheap, perfectly maintained...looks like new...I don't need a MB anymore. Lancia has made an amazing car with Thesis, yes I drove MB cars, before...

    I currently own an E350 diesel blutech Nightline Edition on a 15 plate, it has the 9G Tronic gearbox (flappy paddle that I never use), it’s plenty quick and handles really well, in sports mode it devours country lanes all in comfort with all the toys you need. I love it and it looks the part.

    3:49 Been a little late to the party here. But the left hand side arrow buttons help change the track. Use the left/right arrow buttons to change the what is being displayed on the tachometer. Once the the song playing is displayed there, you can press the up/ down arrow button on the steering wheel to change tracks. Bit of a faff but maybe Merc had their reasons. Had the W212 250 cdi for a bit and it was explosive. Another trick up its sleeve, was when you push the accelerator pedal all the way through, you’ll meet a resistance. Push your foot a bit further in, and you’ll feel as if you pushed a button with your feet. This is where magic happens :)

    My manager in an old job had this shape (W212) in the same colour and identical spec, but it was a E320 CDi - which has a 3 litre V6 diesel. This iteration is one of the best looking MB's they've made for some years, the front end reminds me of the Decepticon logo from Transformers and the car has a whole dramatic presence on the road.

You learn immediately not to trust it and wait or get T boned (eventually) Great ride for motorways. Overall I liked the car despite the lack lustre performance. I had an E350 bluetec estate
    It was a lovely car really. It was a premium plus 2016 model. Couldn’t fault it apart from it was a bit slower than my 535d which was more driver focused but not as comfortable. When I first got out of BMW into Mercedes, the Merc felt cheaper inside and not as well put together. But having owned the car for a few weeks, I much preferred the Merc. It’s more practical and functional. It must be an age thing! I’ve been a passenger in a 2010 E500 and that was lovely.

    I definitely love you videos and believe you're quite fair in your reviews. Although this video is a few years old now, like my post, I wanted to provide some constructive comments to correct a couple minor things. After owning many E Classes (and still own 2 X W212's) I feel I can help you here. You can definitely change the track on the steering wheel...Using the left hand side arrows (left or right) toggle on the instrument cluster screen to your CD/MP3/USB/HDD music. Keep that setting on screen and hey presto, you can change track. The 2010 W212 didn't come with Bluetooth streaming (but did come with regular telephone Bluetooth) until the instrument cluster update (to full instrument cluster colour screen in 2011). Just like a lot of other brands, they introduced features slowly so they can see the same car years into its sales period. The reverse camera was always an option on the E220, you'd have to go higher in the range to change this. I also notice in another W212 video of yours on a wagon W212 you were very frustrated it had no cup holders, which isn't true, the example you had was actually missing the twin cup holder in the centre console. Someone had probably taken it out for cleaning and not put it back. Even on the most entry level spec of this generation, they all had at minimum 2 cup holders in the front or 4 if you had rear folding seats. It's also interesting England gets the lowest output E220 diesel, interestingly over here in Australia we don't have this version, we get the E220 diesel but with the higher output,which has plenty of power. So I don't know of the struggles you speak of with the lower power unit. It seems like they should just cull the lower output one from the start. The car is INCREDIBLY fuel efficient when buying the higher out diesel E220 CDI anyway and gets a retune for more power in the diesel E250 CDI. Otherwise great job, good review, stellar car. Well done.

  • @johnbates606

    You can change forward and back on a CD etc 2 different ways. First is by using the centre wheel and the 2nd way is to use the left hand controls on the steering wheels. They do come with by bluetooth by default for audio (got thru you tube and find a clip on how to enable it)

    Thanks for the review - I enjoy watching them!! I’ve tried the W212 E350 Bluetech on a rental car once but it had great supply of power as one would expect from a larger Mercedes. Mercedes are often marketed as the top notch import brand in Japan so they will not import anything underpowered but it is often a tendency that they become over-priced and over-valued due to its marketing position. I am a Mercedes fan so marketing won’t trick me but your review gives the basic value of a mid-sized Mercedes being durable, spacious, economical (to run) and relaxing, which is why it continues to be the most favored taxi by many. Nonetheless, I will not trade my W124 for a W212!

      You’re probably right. German makes offer a variety of engine choices per model, which is uncommon for a Japanese brand mostly comprised of 2-3 engines choices but it is true that some engine choices are way too weak. It is fair to note, weaker engines are said to maintain the body better as they won’t damage the chassis. I LOVE CARS!!! WOOHOOO :D

    I obtained the vehicle via a Mercedes Dealer (Brooklands) after an ML 350 I had just purchased from them had a complete pneumatic suspension failure and needed to be replaced, however, we were actually driving to Greece in a week and the boss did not want to risk the repair. I arranged to have the E class instead after a nice test run. The car was a 2012 (see thumb nail) so almost 4yrs old very low mileage, approx 13500m full Mercedes’ history etc. Sadly me having s**t for brains traded the car in for

    I was a police advanced driver and a chauffeur to Royals, MP’s, Celebs etc. My favs are the A8 Quattro and S Class. That said I want to have another E350 Avantgarde (2012-16) cabriolet maybe or even a CLS350 CDI.

    Just sold my Audi RS4 Avant and bought a 2014 Mercedes E class coupe 250 cdi. It has the AMG Line spec it has everything on it and I’m getting late 40s to the gallon, it is an unusual colour which is Anthracite silver it looks more like a light gold colour and navy blue leather with cream piping it only has 14000 miles on the clock and I absolutely love it.
    With the RS4 I had new discs and pads all round at £2400 and two new front shocks £2500 two new brake lines £350 and a service at £1200 the car was also a 2014 insurance and road tax was a fortune too.
    So I think I will keep my Mercedes for some time the days of fast cars are a thing of the past, I’ve had my fun it’s now time to be sensible.

    Interestingly (or not) my local tuning shop claim that the engine in the 200, 220, 250 and 270 variants are identical other than the tune. Therefore one could buy the lowest power model and have it retuned to put out much more power. With a tune they're much more responsive, though I think the gearbox is still pretty laggy when pulling away etc.

    • @stevewilliams5428
      @stevewilliams5428 3 роки тому +1

      That's partly right. Trouble is that to 'upgrade' to a higher powered engine you need a turbo change so it's expensive. I had my 220 170bhp mapped for torque and it's markedly quicker.

    Over here in Canada, we had the E320 CDI which put out 201 bhp with 369 ft lb inline 6 torque, it was quite a preppy engine, probably one to your liking, and it was amazing on fuel mileage too. In this particular body shape, there was the E350 Bluetec which produced 210 bhp and 400 ft lbs torque V6 mates to a 7 speed automatic. I think you would be quite impressed by those engines, as we are here. You guys in the UK have such small engines in your cars, it’s funny. The E220 CDI 2.1 litre, would never stand a chance in the North American market.

    • @HighPeakAutos
      @HighPeakAutos  5 років тому

      I agree. The 320 and 350 are much better suited for a car of this size and weight. I think this was built with taxi drivers in mind :)

    • @bilalahmed2123
      @bilalahmed2123 5 років тому

      High Peak Autos one funny thing is that those two models and the E220 fuel mileage isn’t that far off. When I had the E320 CDI, I was averaging 6.7 litres per 100km on the highway and a full tank gave me around 950km (right after reserve light) mixed driving . So I think, because the engine being small in such a big car, and getting pushed more, defeats the purpose. I think it all comes down to cost, and extra taxes you guys need to pay for owning bigger engines. After 2013 year the 6 cylinder diesels were discontinued all together here in Canada and then we got the 4 cyl 2.1 litre Diesel engines producing 195hp with 369 lbs, not as smooth as the 6 cylinder but still had good power and even better fuel economy but of course no slouch compared what you guys had in the E220 CDI in the UK. I think that same 2.1 engine you had over there, we got over here after 2014 but heavily tuned of course.

    • @HighPeakAutos
      @HighPeakAutos  5 років тому

      Exactly! I've always thought the same thing. Its far better to have a bigger engine that doesn't have to work very hard rather than a small engine that you have to rev the nuts off. The newer 220 engine has a bigger turbo I think and they've tuned it up to provide more power. I've got a C class at the moment that produces 175 BHP and that is far better than the previous model

    I on the other hand prefer good looks, decent handling, and real leather in my cars, not that artico crap. In my opinion, the very best car in its class is the Jaguar XF. Looks like Merc have bowed down to the greens and taxi drivers alike as they have produced a potentially large (ish) underpowered engine which gives good mpg and low emissions but created a boring drive of a car.
    I think the interior is a little toTeutonic and to clinical and harks back to the 80’s. The spec seems a little bare even for a 9 year old car especially as you say it should come fully loaded being top of the range.

    I have one of these W212 Mercedes. It is a 2014 350CDI Sport auto which had 23K miles on it when I bought it in 2021 (it had been in storage for a number of years).
    I have put on another 10K and there have been no issues so far - which is what one might expect of a low mileage car.
    My W212 E350 CDI Sport is a lot more forgiving on uneven surfaces than the W211 E210 Sport that I owned previously.
    It is more of a motorway car. The steering is jittery on uneven A/B roads and it really doesn't handle that well (compared to a 2001 BMW E39 525i. Really ??? - answer yes).
    Minor criticisms are as follows:-
    1)Annoying MB positioning of wiper/wash/indicator/do everything stalk on the left of the steering column.
    2)Auto box selector switch on the right of the steering column which can catch you out if you also drive another car with wipers on that side.
    3)Unreadable Satnav which requires periodic updating at £180 a shot.
    4)"Lets keep it secret shall we" online MB servicing records so you don't get a service book with stamps that could record independent garages servicing.
    Other than that, it's a great car and is spacious and comfortable - probably more comfortable in the non-Sport versions.
