TFT stands for thin film transistor and is a kind of LCD screen which is able to refresh the image on the screen really quickly. There are other technologies. So TFTs are LCD screens but not all LCDs are TFTs
The Tuono seems to be an extraordinary machine in every regard. Looks, performance, sound, handling based on your review and others... there is NO denying it's quite impressive!!!
The truth is that most modern bikes are much better than many riders' skills to include me and I have been riding for 35 years. This bike can get you a quick stay in the local sheriff's office without trying but who cares? I wouldn't call it a beautiful bike but I would love to have one. Great video and terrific bike. This bike is why people love motorcycles.
Aprilia Tuono - a bike that doesn’t lead you gently by the hand, but rips your bloody arms off and runs away with ‘em! I’ve not had a V4 Tuono but I’ve had a couple of V-Twins (Gen 1 & 2) and loved them to bits - a proper hooligan of a bike that really comes alive when you’re wringing their neck. Looking forward to you long term review, Mr Flyer 👍
Have had my '18 Factory 2ONO for a year. More compliant ride than an S!000R or a 765... switch gear probably not quite as nice as the BMW but a little riding time and it's fine. Motor is incomparable. Chassis is incomparable. Quickshifter needs aggressive throttle on upshifts but works great. Mirrors should be immediately replaced with arrow bar-ends. WInd protection better than any other "naked"... Can ride it for 3 hours easy. Have literally forgotten every other bike (Ducati 1198S, Multistrada, BMW K1200S etc etc) See MCN's review of the new RSV4 with the 1100 engine. Says it all. Enjoy!
I just got a 2018 Factory two days ago and I can say without hesitation this is by far the best bike I've ever owned. There were a few on my list when I was looking and after test riding this, there isn't a comparison. This bike is head and shoulders above the rest. I've never been happier with a motorcycle.
Morning Tmf..... great review, great bike......why i didnt get one was the tank range and riding position. Coming off my zx6 i wanted an up right bike to save the old bones!!! So the Sdr it was.... 20yrs younger maybe the Tuono!! 👍👍
I've owned over 25 different motorcycles in the last two decades and the 2017 tuono factory i owned last year for the summer was hands down the best motorcycle i have ever ridden.
I've got a great big smile on my face when I say this Mr Flyer, I've never seen you "Hoon" so much in a vid like this one! The MT10-SP vid, you were the same as well, which really shows that these bikes are real "Fun" bikes to ride. I used to own a '14 RSV 4, so i understand the engine feeling. The quick-shifter works best above 4k revs. You'll notice it struggles below 4k revs, same as blipping. My old Aprilia had oil leaks early in its life, at about 1800km & on. Got rid of it by 4500km, otherwise it had much more midrange than the s1000RR i had. Im still in love with my Monster R, just a real hoon bike as well with all that torque like the SDR. It was one of the reasons I picked it over the MT10-SP. But that MT10-SP I will never forget! It was literally a coin toss between the Monster R & the SP. The Ohlins semi automatic suspension on the SP was sublime. Like you say, its a fantastic group of bikes the Naked sector. It really is a difficult task to pick one correctly, & not fret later over why you didn't buy the other bike. Enjoyed this vid Mr Flyer, & really looking forward to the next editions of her. Cheers groover ;-)
Also, binged watched your trip to Scottish Ilse, NC500, and Norway..great stuff, never get tired of watching! Never heard of a puffer jacket here in the U.S.
Thanks for another great review TMF. To risk sounding like your mum - be careful on that thing it's an absolute beast. Look after yourself and your licence.
Great review TMF. I have the 2017 factory. Amazing bike however the tank range is dismal and if the fuel light comes on you have 15 miles before it gives up which I discovered within first few weeks of ownership. !! But saying that, this bike will do it all 👍
I got 150 easy.. but you need to ride i 6 gear all the time.. not over 60-70mph on tje twisties Thats more tjen enough we have tight twisties my record is actually close to 170miles.. ppl owning this machine just need to blow the throttle every time and then whine about mpg 😂😂 if you wack a 1100cc bike ohh yess she will ve thirsty
I put an sc project racing oval slip on and a map on mine. Sounds awesome and goes like the wind. I got told when I put mine into gear sounds like a lion about to eat you. Can’t wait to see the pros and cons you find. Ie getting into neutral.
Hi, good review however one thing you got wrong is the factory breaks and the RR brakes are the same. Only thing that is different is the suspension, tyres, graphics and tail end. Otherwise yep it’s a amazing bike which is why I got one 🤘👌🏼
I have a 2017 Tuono V4 RR and absolutely love the bike. Be aware of the fuel consumption, and no fuel gauge. I suggest resetting the mileage trip counter when you fill the tank. The TFT dash will give you an indication when you go into the reserve, which will only give you about 20-25 miles. I only average about 100 miles per tank. You may get better mileage with the stock exhaust. I had an Akrapovic slip-on installed, and the Aprilia Race ecu. Enjoy the bike!
Really nice looking machine. Probably lose my licence if I were to have one! Thanks for the great review as per usual. By the way, your black colored TMF t-shirt is now being seen around North Queensland Australia. Great fit and very comfortable. Thanks again mate.
still havent seen you about lol, and i live ten min from you. Start of video is my old bike route to work when i had a gasxr750 in 90s past Chequers.I have a brand new tuono Factory, LOVING it also. Your welcome to try it i Have the race map and Akra with no ballfle in sounds so good pops and bangs
really like tmf reviews and the tuono is a bike i may not ever have(self preservation) i am on a speed twin now looking forward to the next bike but i wonder how reliable the pasta rocket and its cousin up the road actually are? i have doubts but the fun factor seems to be triple diple
Great initial review. Like many I was scared off by reliability and parts availability. Plus the dealer (not wheels) didn’t have a clue on the product. Lovely bike though, great v4
Absolutely gorgeous bike amazing how putting straight bars on what is essentially a sports bike transforms the ride come on triumph take note offer the same with the new daytona think you would be surprised with the take up unless they think its too similar too the speed
The motor isn't a retuned RSV4 motor. The Tuono is an 1100cc where the RSV4 is a 1000cc. Just an FYI. Unless you're talking about the brand new 2019 RSV4 factory which is the first RSV4 with an 1100
Best super naked IMO ... the sound it makes is sooo addictive. Loving mine. Only negative for me is no fuel gauge. Need to try very very hard to keep within the speed limits. It wants to tempt you always. Great review as always TMF
Very cool bike, you're right about the pipe, it would benefit from a better looking silencer. Good review, look forward to hearing more about ypur time with it.
Great vid :-) ..May I ask where u place yr microphone in yr helmet not to catch any wind noise? And do u use a separate audio recorder? Or straight to Cam? Tks
Hi,nice review. How does the wheelie control work? Can you pre set the height of the wheelie. Is it like the Ducati v4s and bmw s1000 rr? Thanks very much
Hi TMF, greetings from sunny Thailand. I always love your reviews, but this one is an absolute belter, and some really nice scenery as an added bonus. Best naked bike? For me 100%......... I am not a fan of the looks of the KTMs, especially the front end, as someone that rides Kawasaki Zs, this Aprilla looks like a work of art. Love your channel mate, keep up the good work.
Tom Bucci Jr. I think this would win, the price as if today for either is the same, retail on SP is 14269 and you can get one of these for 13999..... it’s a no brainier I reckon
Hi TMF, I was all set on a Tuono Factory when I saw your review from the first time you went out on an Mt10! Don't think I've ever seen you have such a visceral reaction to a bike as that! I prefer the look of the Tuono, and in my mid-40's am thinking it might be my last chance at a not-so-comfortable bike. But the MT10 sounds like it's awesome too! So...Million $ question...Comfort aside, if you had to stick one in the garage, which would it be and why?
Sorry for being dumb but why is this classed as a naked bike and compared to bikes like the KTM superduke, and not a sports bike like the ducati v4s? It looks like a sports bike to me. Thanks
Handlebar instead of clip-ons, and that front fairing is deceiving. It’s very small. Just large enough to house the headlights, mostly. And it lacks all the the lower and side fairings of a full superbike. It’s much closer to naked than fully faired.
A fine piece of machinery there TMF, i have a standard version of the 2016 vintage and to me its the best bike ive ever had as far as power and handling go, whats disappoints me is the fuel range, i can get 230-240 km before the fuel light comes on, thats doing a steady110-120 kmph, and then you need to find some gas within the next 30 km or you will be pushing, dont ask me how i know
Great bike, but since it's half fairings is it really a nekkid bike or just a standard sportbike? Nekkid means I can see the forks and just a small headlight and gauge assembly, not a wind cutting huge plastic fairing with three lights.
The best nekid you get that you don't have to spin over 3k rpm to go to jail. I'm keeping my powder dry until you give the '19 Honda CB500X a good flogging over all roads paved and graveled.
They are both amazing bikes - if I had to split them Tuono for comfort, SuperDuke for excitement....but I'm splitting hairs, they are both very exciting and neither are thaaaat comfortable...go for the one you like the looks of best.
Lovely bike! I own a 2018 VFR800F which I use for fun, touring etc, is it just me but European manufacturers are chucking more features at bikes? I have no cruise control, I have very basic traction control & a pretty basic LCD screen. I did notice also at the bike show that the European manufacturers stands were defiantly busier, times are changing I think. Great vid
Just make sure you have all your 12 points on your licence for this one.... The pit lane restrictor should offer a national speed limit mode.... Love this bike, like the 1290 Duke R, but its not something you can ride sensibly and hence the appeal...
This is not a bike... This thing is an hybrid machine, a mix between a McDonnell Douglas F-15 and a 2 wheels bike ! I love the 3 riding modes... Sport, Track and Race ! This announce what this bike is made for :-)
I love the sound and ride of the Tuono but the ones I knew a couple years ago only got about 110-120 miles on a tank. That, of course, may have something to do with the "detonator." Is this years tank bigger? I look forward to your long term review.
@@TheMissendenFlyer Would have loved to hear your review on it, some how thought you might have gone. I am sure you will get a hold of the bike soon, and I would love to hear a lot about its weight and feel. I am least 2 months away from seeing one in US. This bike has got way to excited, the last time I was this excited about bike was atleast 20 years ago, I am just unable to contain my excitement to get to ride this.
You're not wrong definitely should have had this during the summer as with some other bikes you've had during winter. You say it's laden with electronics but I have a feeling it still doesn't have a proper fuel gauge which for me was a deal breaker on the '17 bike. Guy at Wheels told me it didn't need one. WTF! Plus it's Italian it will break your heart, beak your wallet and fall apart. Prefer the SDR, BMW S1000R and Speed Triple RS anyway. Haven't ridden an MT10. BTW you need to do more post blurring of the speedo if you are going to ride fast even for brief periods. You need a proper fuel gauge for this bike if it's range is so low. Refills are going to be frequent! Thanks for making and posting.
@@TheMissendenFlyer Indeed. As you are always saying there are sooooo many good bikes to choose from now. For me a proper fuel gauge is a must. Some might say this is stupid but if I am paying the thick end of £13-14k + for a NEW bike I want a proper fuel gauge other manufacturers provide them why can't Aprilia? I don't care how good the bike is supposed to be. It just makes day to day riding of a bike easier having one and with this one it looks like you'd need it! Anyway the opposition are fantastic bikes so no great loss really. Anyway Missenden thanks for replying. Ride safe and hit the blur button!
Hey kids! Odd, I found the Tuono very tall when I rode it and I'm 5'10" - maybe the 2017 is lower. Still my favourite bike. They cost a shit-ton here in Thailand though.
I really love the look of this bike and that V4 is a stonking motor but having sat on one I don't think its roomy enough for a big lad like me. Think I will keep the MT10 another year, it's been perfectly reliable. You prefer the Aprilia over the Yam?
The Aprilia has a specialness factor about it the Yanmaha doesn't....but whether I prefer it overall....will have to wait for my in depth video coming soon!
Great review & bike. Although one thing I do find odd about the Tuono is everybody raves about it & it often wins group tests etc but apparently Aprilia don't sell that many compared to the competition, even those of similar price. I wonder if their past reputation of having a relatively sparse dealer network & poor after sales service & parts supply may still be tainting Aprilia's reputation even though it's not true anymore? Speaking of which, I mentioned this on a recent lambchop review, but it's worth repeating. I bought a new RSV1000 from Wheels many years ago & their service was fantastic throughout! Ironically I soon realised I should have bought the more comfortable Tuono but I was stuck in sports bike mode at that time. TMF could you possibly find your way on to a Suzuki Katana this summer please. Might be good to do a back to back with the GSXS1000 as you haven't ridden one as yet I believe.
I'm always curious though I'm not really into power nakeds. I like some protection. Is this the best? There are other excellent bikes like the super duke, street triple etc. You've got it for a few weeks so let's find out.
Yess it's THE best by far.. The Tuono wins it ALL on every test there is for a reason.. KTM is only wheelie 109% of THE times ypu ride, wheelie are fun but not 109% of the time 😂 The Tuono chassie is miles better and you feel it after 1,23sec into your ride it has insane lap times and wheelie when you want the chassie is stable beyond and you can hang off and drag knee ktm not so much..
I’ve never ridden an Aprilia V-4 but, with the exception of the 8th generation, I’m very familiar with the Honda VFR’s V-4’s. Could you, or perhaps someone else that knows both engines, characterize the difference between the two? Aprillia’s are rare in Canada, so I doubt I’ll be getting a chance to ride one . . .
Hi TMF , when are you going to do a review of the new moto Guzzi V85 TT a cracking bike by all accounts, be interesting/ good to get your views on it as a avid Bmw fan, safe riding
Tail piece, small fairing & windscreen, and handlebars, feet just a little back sounds kinda like the old Thruxton cafe racer. Labels can be a little arbitrary can't they?
I don't know if I would attempt to ride a passenger on the factory model but I've seen guys with the RR model switch the tail end out for the factory look, I'm sure you could do the same just backwards and put the RR seat on the factory if anyone planned on bringing a passenger frequently. I went with the RR model pretty much for the back seat, she doesn't ride often but does enjoy on occasion and she wasn't having the rear seat on the factory. Lol
Nice review as always. Love the bike but it's not an only one bike if you take a pillion or go touring. Why does it even have pillion pegs with no rear seat.
There's a post-card sized seat that swaps with the centre-rear tail cowling for 2-up (if the pillion is the size of a 7 year-old). The rr has a more sensible sized pillion seat...
Do you think your going to get your hands on the new Katana?....because I’m dying to know if you would have that or the z900rs so I know what my next bike is going to be 😂
Indicators in v4 Tuono are horrible, had Fzr600, GSXR750, and Aprilia Falco, rode friends ZX-6R, CBR600, Ducati Monster and no problem with their indicator switches but Tuono v4 from 2013 which I own now and love has the worst indicator knob with really weak feedback. I never know if I switched it or cancelled it. I thought it is just me, but it seems other people find it bad too. Maybe Italians do not use indicators :D
C. Henderson “ a BIG fine and couldn’t ride the NSW for 6 months, but the copper did take it down to 160 ( 240 would have got bike impounded and loss of linence for at lest 12 months)

Great suite of electronics on these but do they still lack a fuel gauge?
Yep - crazy eh?
Do you get any under-seat heat from the rear cylinder bank on this bike?
Not really, heat mainly comes from the sides.
Great bike, but since it's half fairings is it really a nekkid bike or just a standard sportbike? Nekkid means I can see the forks and just a small headlight and gauge assembly, not a wind cutting huge plastic fairing with three lights.
It doesnt feel like a sports bike THE geometry is very different
The best nekid you get that you don't have to spin over 3k rpm to go to jail.
I'm keeping my powder dry until you give the '19 Honda CB500X a good flogging over all roads paved and graveled.
Hi tmf ,I noticed on the walk round on the you this review a funny sound don't no if any one else as said to you paul
Last couple videos I noticed it as well. GoPro mic dongle connection issues?
Morning TMF! Which is best for comfort and sporty road use, Tuono Factory or Superduke R? Which one is most exciting? Thanks 👍🏻
Great vid
Cheers Sean....
That, of course, may have something to do with the "detonator."
Is this years tank bigger? I look forward to your long term review.
Still better than the new Shiver 900 that sometimes does less than 100 miles with the full tank.
@@SINIS0RSA Yikes! That would be tough to live with here in Texas where empty roads seem to go on forever.
Did u happen to go to Morocco for the KTM 790 Adv Demo?
Nope - should I have done?
Yes no fuel gauge - crazy eh?
I quite like that it doesn't have a fuel gauge, is that weird? None of my road bikes have one!
@@vxlgsi Weirdo. ;@)
Hey kids! Odd, I found the Tuono very tall when I rode it and I'm 5'10" - maybe the 2017 is lower. Still my favourite bike. They cost a shit-ton here in Thailand though.
Hey great to hear from you OMT - hope all is well??
Cost a shit load everywhere. Who cares you only live once. That's why I have one😂😂
Love to have this beauty alongside my Mutley in the garage😎🤘
I have a PP 1260 multi and thinking of trading for a new Tuono factory, any thoughts
My favourite bike .. it just feels quality to me .. and crazy fast
Yeah, it is a quality feeling machine, everything about it oozes top notch quality and design...
I may or may not be working overtime to buy one of those. True Story ;)
Thanks a lot Mr Flyer!
thanks for the review, not my cup of tea, but always nice to see something a bit different.
Yes the katana is on the list RR!
Why fit the rear pegs on this model seeing it's a single seater.
Very good 1st review tmf lovely bike but to much money for me. Thanks Danny
I’ve never ridden an Aprilia V-4 but, with the exception of the 8th generation, I’m very familiar with the Honda VFR’s V-4’s. Could you, or perhaps someone else that knows both engines, characterize the difference between the two? Aprillia’s are rare in Canada, so I doubt I’ll be getting a chance to ride one . . .
Wheels are Moto Guzzi dealers as well, get a ride on the new V85TT please
Hi TMF , when are you going to do a review of the new moto Guzzi V85 TT a cracking bike by all accounts, be interesting/ good to get your views on it as a avid Bmw fan, safe riding
if I could get a ride on one I would!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Yes they are proving to be very popular and sought after at the moment
Tail piece, small fairing & windscreen, and handlebars, feet just a little back sounds kinda like the old Thruxton cafe racer. Labels can be a little arbitrary can't they?
Sure can! Thanks for watching - TMF
Looks wonderful, feeling my age now.
Great looking bike but if it was mine my licence would probably have no points left on it.
The video I've been waiting for. But why are there only review of the Factory model, what about the RR model.
Same bike only difference is the ohlin vs sach. The Sach is good enough for street so not an issue
Fascinating Shadows, TMF (3:00-6:00)
Click on the time fragment above. \'-)
Couple of comments bit close to the bone here TMF, not like you 😜 good review though as usual, maybe the tuono changed you?
Similar torque output as my ZRX1200 then (113Nm @ 7000 rpm) might buy one of these in a few years when the prices drop and buy one cash
It has much more then 113NM and where have you tested that??
The naked King they say. I wouldn't argue, lucky you for the next two weeks. Beware, you could fall in love with it!
Note pillion footpegs, but the pillion seat looks a bit iffy!
Agreed!
Lol
@@awdeveau Thanks for your reply. My point was obviously made in jest!
Do you think your going to get your hands on the new Katana?....because I’m dying to know if you would have that or the z900rs so I know what my next bike is going to be 😂
Yes I think there's a good chance of that.....
You're kinda lugging the engine doing 25mph in 4th gear, no? This isn't a GS after all. :P
Nice bike look forward to longer term.impression ....one thing though the ye haaaas aka teapot one ....bit contrived just saying 😏
Trust e I don't "Ye haaa" very often......this bike brings it out in me.....
@@TheMissendenFlyer 😂 aye it funny cause Richy and Lamb chop doing it as well I've noticed must have been catching 😉
Me mum is buying me one as a first bike. She applied for a life insurance policy on me as well. The two aren't related I reckon ???!!!!
:0)
Quick question why is the UK is called blighty
I don’t honestly know!
I rode a mates 18 model 2 weeks ago up in the Aussie Hills " my God the 170 HP is MAD " No wonder my mate got booked for doing 240kph in a 100 zone.
It’s all about the ride-, Keeping it alive be spending a bit of time in the pen wouldn’t be?
C. Henderson “ a BIG fine and couldn’t ride the NSW for 6 months, but the copper did take it down to 160 ( 240 would have got bike impounded and loss of linence for at lest 12 months)
It’s all about the ride-, Keeping it alive less than ideal
