Who’s ready for a Toyota vs Volkswagen pickup truck showdown?! We’ve got the new Hilux going up against the Amarok!
So how do the stats for these two compare? Well starting with the all-new Hilux, it’s powered by a 2.8-litre 4 cylinder diesel which can produce 204hp and 500Nm of torque. It weighs around 2.1 tonnes, and when new, will set you back about £40,000.
As for the Volkswagen, well that’s powered by a 3-litre V6 diesel, and as a result, it can put down 258hp and 580Nm of torque. It’s slightly heavier than the Toyota, at 2.2 tonnes, and it also costs slightly more, coming in at £43,000.
So the VW clearly has more power, but will the extra weight drag it down? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

Having driven an Amarok just like that, having it done a kickdown from 2nd to 3rd at like 10 mph, I got to say, I am surprised at how fast it is, for being a pickup

Hi Mat !
I just want to let you know that these Toyota’s S mode stands for sequential (kinda manuall). In Toyota’s these transmissions mostly acts as a gear limiter meaning that if you put it in 2-3or 4 for example the transmission will shift normally until the selected gear on the display on the dashboard. However the S actually makes the car a little more sporty because you can hold the gears a little longer than if it was in D (Normal mode) . I can tell because I have a 2015. Rav4 with practically the same gearbox with P-R-N-D and S (+/- ) on the side.
And also the car goes in S4 because it’s a safety measure to prevent any damage to the transmission while switching from D to S while drive for example.

@@MohammedJobori not sure, I have driven the gr v6 in a prado and a v6 amarok. The toyota v6 is very lethargic and is more for comfort, the amarok feels much faster
@@antonioakiki3716 prado v6 is petrol, whereas I am pretty sure Amarok v6 is diesel... so I think it's a win for prado... as it's petrol engine so more smoother.

Sequential gearbox is what the S stands for, it means the upper limit is set by the gearbox so you can control it for offroad or towing.

It goes to forth for towing, my tundra does the same thing, it allows you to lock into and hold a gear unless you change it, that's why you stayed in 1st gear in the first race

Even though I love Toyotas, the result was obvious. 2 more cylinders and 50 extra hp makes the difference, plus everyone knows that the V6 Amarok is a beast, with a simple ecu tune you can make it even faster and have like 300hp+. The race I would love to see though, is the new Hilux that now includes the 4.0 N/A V6 against the Amarok V6, that would seem more fair and interesting.

They called Ute's and here in New Zealand the best selling cars each month between Ford Ranger and Hi lux but the Mazda BT-50 is not far behind
The power mode button slows down the hilux, we use the button for pulling out trailers or other cars stuck in mud. For speed, switch off eco mode and power mode, put the gear into sport
