  • Tackling a tough trout bite isn't that hard if you have a systematic approach. Mike and Pete from the Gig Harbor Fishin Club tackle American lake to show how a systematic approach can make even a tough lake and a tougher bite easy to overcome.

It really should, between the stocking and the rising water temps.

Yeah it’s been slow. We don’t hit that lake a lot but the fish we caught on Saturday were all decent. We don’t fish it just after stocking simply because the pressure is up and fish tend to be small. It’s a fun fishery most of the year but tough in the winter. Frankly surprised the trolled fly bite isn’t better out there right now.

I wonder if fishing raw shrimp would work.. was out there yesterday had a couplenhits ony bass lure trolling around. They were not very active tho. But then again it was a high pressure day

I have never tried shrimp at American lake but they’re money sometimes at other lakes. If you find success with them let me know and I’ll try them next time I get out there and see what I can pull.

@@gigharborfishinclub989 I'm gonna try fishing with them next month. Figured it would be warmer by then and the water temps should have rose by then

Yeah temps are still hovering in 40s but with a bit of a warmup I’m hoping to get into the 50s soon. If you get out there let us know how the shrimp work!

@@gigharborfishinclub989 I'll deff let you know. I know down south like Arkansas and Georgia and Alabama shrimp works fairly well esp for grass carp and perch and alligator gar etc. I just wish we were able to fish with minnows up here.
