    I think the reflective set is meant to used with black paper. I would think that crafters may find it more useful. These types of paints from other brands are similar. They just don't show up on white paper very well.

      I should've made a better effort of trying it on black paper, but I did paint them over a black stripe in my sketchbook when I did all the swatches. I'll revisit the paints with black paper :)

    I bought the granulators set because I wanted the tin and because I love granulating watercolor.
    I must say that the watercolor itself is a bit disappointing to me. I have the high chroma set so maybe it is not fair to compare, but the colors in this set seem a bit weak and lack an umph. The green is a boring version to the lovely ds cascade green to me. The blues are not very special and the purples are weak.
    If is was possible to buy just the tin I would, only because the design is nice.
    Maybe the urban set or the intensity set would have been a better choice. I will put my favorites in the palette.

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  Рік тому +3

      It really depends on the kind of colors you like. Most granulating colors are not as vibrant and punchy as non-granulating colors. Part of that is due to the more opaque nature of granulating pigments. The green is a single, granulating pigment, while a color like Cascade Green is made from two pigments, so that's how it gets its dual color effect.
      If you want, you can try mixing the granulating colors with transparent colors (for example, the green with nickel azo yellow; a purple with a quid red, etc), to make your own special effect paints. The transparent colors would add a bit of glow to the granulating colors and it could be a fun way to make these colors more useful to you :)

    Great overview.
    My main disappointment was the overlap between the sets. Come on QOR…

    • @EveBolt

      Yeeaaaah, the sets would've been so much better if they had worked them out with no repeat colors.

    I think these mini sets serve two purposes, yes you can come up with your own palette. But, at the same time, I’d asked QoR if they would ever sell the mini tins on their own to make your own set with tubes. I really like the mini tins and had some of their other sets like the chroma set where I’d like to make more travel friendly. This is a hybrid where they don’t just sell a tin they can upscale it to sell you some paint and at the same time allow you to make a more custom assortment.

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  Рік тому +4

      Ooo, interesting! I can see that! I wish they would sell empty pans, too. They are a proprietary size and I'd love to have more options when putting a palette together.

  • @lisathaviu1154
    @lisathaviu1154 7 місяців тому +1

    Setting up a palette with tube colors is really easy with Qor paints. The colors dry quickly in the pans, don’t split when they dry and are really easy to rewet, even the Viridian. The reason I really prefer these paints is that they have very little color shift when they dry, so when you are painting, what you see is what you get.

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  Рік тому +2

      You get six half-pans, six empty pans and a travel tin (with the insert). It's a bit pricey, but quite on par with other professional brands :)

  • @gigiartstudiowithartistvir3919

    Qor is my absolute FAVORITE watercolor paint. I have all kinds of high end professional brands of watercolors, but they are gathering dust now. I buy the 11ml tubes of Qor and make my own palettes. Empty palette tins are in abundance in all kinds of shapes, sized, etc. Design your own favorite palette based on what you love.

      @@gigiartstudiowithartistvir3919 they do make great paints and I have a few of their tubes. They are running out though. I was watching Irit show how they interact with other watercolors and now I’m even more intrigued.

      @gigiartstudiowithartistvir3919 Рік тому +2

      @@lzal9204 Yes I love how they play with other pigments as well. I think the reason I like them so much is because they move very well on the paper. I tend to paint in a more lose style, so that movement is exactly what I want. They are also highly pigmented.

  • @FaerieDust
    @FaerieDust Рік тому +5

    I want one of these mostly because it's a less expensive way to get the tin tbh 😅
    Did you notice any difference between the new pans and the old poured ones? I can't remember who it was, but I saw someone here on YT who really didn't think the new pans rewetted well - like they were super thirsty, iirc.

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  Рік тому

      My older 12 colors set doesn't have poured pans, they are definitely extruded paint. So I can't really compare, but I thought the paints rewet super well and had no issue with them :)

    • @FaerieDust
      @FaerieDust Рік тому +3

      @EveBolt ah, I misspoke! The old set are extruded, the new set are, like, compressed or something. Like, they changed the production method (there's a video on Golden's channel), the new pans are different from the old. That's why they look different (kind of bumpy and matte, instead of smooth and glossy)
      Either way, great to know that you didn't have any trouble with them!

      Interference watercolor can be used over any regular paint color to create interesting effects and shimmer, they're not as effective used alone on regular wc paper, but agree they usually look beautiful on black paper.

  • @keepyourshoesathedoor
    @keepyourshoesathedoor Рік тому +1

    Are the interference colors good when mixed with other colors?
    Anyway, I don’t like the sets. Not because I hate QOR-I love QOR-but it’s because of the color choices! I just felt like a lot of the sets were very generic with generic colors I can get with brand and doesn’t even show why they stick out.
    That granulation set could’ve had some cadmiums in there considering they sell those or some granulating earths or blacks…
    Why not make a heavy dispersion set or a high tinting or low tinting set? They have ardoise grey which is very low tinting (bc it’s Slate Grey PBk19) and usually is hard to find. That’s interesting. It actually makes them stick out.
    Also, I saw someone (may have been you) mix their high chroma set and it didn’t have clean mixes and the PO71 or PO73 was extremely dull. 😕
    Overall, I enjoy their paints but those sets are useless. I do wish they sold those empty pans. They are clean.

    • @EveBolt

      If you want to make watercolours more opaque, you can use white gouache :) Keep in mind that some pigments are very transparent to begin with and as such, they can't keep their hue and be opaque at the same time :)
