Hope this helps you out if and when coming to Panama! Let us know what is your favourite way to get around while travelling? Private car? Public transit? Rent a car? Let us know! 🚗 🚌 🚊
I am so glad you both are well and safe. No one in Panama take a taxi from the airport to Coronado. Technically you stamped a big Tourist sign in your forehead. The taxi driver charged you $100.00 bucks and that is reasonable. I took a taxi (a friend of friend taxi driver) from Chorrera to the airport and charged me $75.00.
Haha yes, we certainly learned that one the hard way! They tried charging us $140 to start, we then said "The guy down there said $100", he instantly said "Ok $100 is good".... Probably could have gotten a better rate and handled it differently for sure. But, hopefully this video helps others avoid that same trap 🙂🙌
Awesome, Kyle and Jess! I continue to enjoy all your videos. So informative and entertaining! Thanks for sharing your travel experiences and learnings with the world. 😃
Hey hey! Thanks Char, we're glad you're liking the videos, we are definitely having an adventure of a time traveling and are happy to see people are enjoying the experiences we share and the things we learn along the way. 🙂🙌
Crucially, cabs have to pay a licence that costs hundreds of dollars. Also, gas prices in Panama, as well as everywhere else, have increased to ridiculous levels so $100 - $140 from Tocumen to Coronado is not unreasonable. Uber do not have the same levels of insurance so I wouldn't use them in any event. Essentially, anyone can be an Uber driver, you have to pass a licence to be a taxi driver. Agree your fare BEFORE you get into the taxi.
No, not really. It's an almost 2 hour drive from PTY to Coronado, then the driver has to come back empty to Panama City. The standard fare for 1-4 passengers is $120. And the fares are posted as you leave the arrival terminal, as well as on the airport website.
From the airport in Orlando, Florida to international drive in Orlando cost over a $20 by taxi, but only two dollars by city bus and I was just fine on the city bus :) of course, if you have a big family or lost lots of luggage, that might be a different thing
Hey Vincent! 👋 We are actually planning on going to Costa Rica in the near future for sure! Any thing you would suggest us checking out when we go there?
It was the Rapi pass we had mentioned just before. There are 3 different types of passes, we didn't have that one but he was kind enough to not charge us for the card on the one off time and just put the money on his card and scanned that. We explain it in a little better detail around the 5:30 mark
1:10 - that’s what it costs exactly to from Tocumen airport to Coronado. $100-150. It’s 1.5 one way. Do the driver is out for 3 hours - consider his time, gas, and lost opportunity as he won’t be able to return to the airport and pick up new customers for at least 3-4 hours.
Exactly! Normally $120 for 1-4 passengers from PTY to Coronado. I'd like to know how much they believe is a fair price. I know I wouldn't do it for less than $150.
How do you know where the local bus stops are in Coronado area? I'm in Nuevo Gorgona and would love to figure out the whole bus situation, but no clue where to start. Any suggestions?
The bus stop in Coronado is right in between a mcdonald’s and kfc on the Panamerican highway. There’s a big shopping centre on both sides of the highway. Also ask the guys working the bud to be sure, they’re very helpful
No fue una estafa, son las tarifas de los taxis de turismo regulados por la autoridad de transporte terrestre, como en cualquier país. Sí, es exclusivo y directo sin escalas es mas costoso. Pero es 100% legal.
Not that it’s illegal, but we don’t think the fares are regulated, if they were, they wouldn’t have negotiated… He knocked $40 off just by asking, so before you go, we’d suggest looking more into it is all. But pricing, definitely not regulated or the same for everyone
1:55 - you are missing lots of details. Uber is not allowed to operate at the airport. So to get to Uber pickup point, you’ll need to walk around the airport. There are official taxi stands with official prices posted just as you exit the doors of the airport. No sketchy business there. Take official taxi, pay official rate.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! We haven’t been back since, but imagine most is the same. We did do a video on restaurants to check out in Casco Viejo, make sure to check that out for recommendations 🙂🙌
7:06 - do you know what the drivers and vehicles have to go through to come up and down the winding road to El Valle??? So don’t complain about $3 price tag!!!
We have just shared our experience, as when we first arrived, we found a lot of the transportation options to be confusing and hard to find information. So we hope that our experience would save some others some money and time. That being said, we aren't necessarily experts in the field of Panamanian transportation, nor claimed to be. We also had not complained about anything, especially not the $3 bus in El Valle. We just simply shared the information we learned along the way, and as you can see from the other comments, many other people have found it helpful and we hope they continue to. Thanks for watching though and hope you enjoy our future videos! 🙂🙌
Rejoice: the metro will have a station at the airport early next year. You'll be able to go from the airport to the city for less than a dollar per person (after buying a 5 dollar metro/metrobus card) Stick to Uber and public transportation. Yellow taxis will rip you off every chance they get.
@@glenntucker69 The main purpose of the metro system is to give people living out in the boonies easy access to the city, so they won't have to sit in traffic for hours while commuting to work and back home. Taking it to the airport was not a priority while it was being built. Line 3, currently under construction, will serve the same purpose, but on the west side of the city. When it's up and running, it will conveniently get you close to Coronado
$100 from Tocumen International to Playa Coronado? Kyle u got ripped another a$$, bro. You could have rented a compact car with GPS for atleast 2 days for that much. Chucha!!!!! Jess, make sure Kyle doesn't get ripped another one like that again...puh-lease!!!!! 🤢😡 He "ain't" gonna have an a$$ left by the time y'all leave Panama. hahahahaha 🤣😂
Haha yes, we definitely got ripped off... Just didn't know any better, but now we definitely do and hopefully, this video helps others see past that trap and save them a bit of money. Never again! I'm gonna need what a$$ I have left to get us through our travels haha
Kyle and Jess I just discovered your videos on Panama. I’m traveling to Panama in February for three weeks with my sisters . I was stationed in the Army in the 1970s and early 80s . Panama City has changed. You’re video are a help thank you I’m following you
Hi Brenda! Thanks for joining the community and glad you’re enjoying the videos! That’s very cool that you were stationed in PC, I’m sure you know it well! The city has changed but it is still a great visit. We hope you enjoy your stay and feel free to reach out for any questions! 😊👍
I was stationed at Kobbe '89-91. I've been back to Panama many times since and planning to move back in 2023. You absolutely will not recognize Paitilla, Ave Balboa, Amador or many other places. Clayton is the only base on the Pacific side that has stayed pretty much the same. Big changes and expansions were done to Albrook and Howard (now known as Panama Pacifico).
Another great video, really informative. We never tried the metro or the buses but they do look safe, clean and hard to beat that price! We rented a car when we were outside Panama City but that’s obviously the most expensive option (except maybe the taxi ripoff!). Now we know for next time. Thanks!
Yeah bus and train is the way to go in this country it seems. They have a very accessible bus system and the metro is ridiculously cheap to get around the city. Only thing we wish about it all, is that the bus system had a more clear and concise schedule online. It can be really hard to find what's happening where and when, or down right impossible haha, but we've managed to make it work and saved $100's on our trip by doing so.
Uber should work in Panama just fine! 🙌 We have found the bus/collectivo system to be really good and much more affordable. But if you’re looking mostly just for the convenience of door to door, and don’t mind paying more, Uber works everywhere there that we went 🙂
There is now an extension of the Metro direct to/from the airport, makes things a whole lot easier. Yes, the Rapid Pass is the best option - it does for all the Metro buses, the Metro and access to other buses at the terminal and the toilets! For travelling in and around the city - including the Canal visitor centre, the old ruined city of Panama Viejo and so on - the Metro buses are best, cheap and there's a free app you can use to find the right bus, and when the next one is due. I don't understand the taxi fares quoted, always agree the price beforehand and, best of all, have a Panamanian wife who doesn't mind haggling, and so avoid "gringo pricing".
A metro airport station just opened a few months ago. If you come back, you can take the it and travel directly to the city. You just need to get the metro card.
Ah that’s good to know! We loved Panama, so I’m sure some day we will be back! So thank you for sharing, not only for us, but also for everyone else watching to have the update! 🙂🙌🇵🇦
Hey Cherisse, we would make a quick clip to help you out, but doesn't look like we're going to be heading to the city again anytime soon. It's honestly quite easy though. Those terminals we pointed out in the metro station, they spit them right out for you. You can purchase them with cash or card. Some terminals are only for reloading the cards, so you may have come across those, but keep looking cause they are at every station and fairly easy to purchase once you find the right terminal. Hope the rest of our video was helpful for you though! 🙂
I have never experienced in the 5 years I been coming there, first off the airport to the city standard is $30 and more you can say no and they reduce the price, next you can take line 2 go to the connected train which is line 1 then head down town then you can take a taxi to your hotel which is $2- $3 now rush hours prices go up if you are leaving the mall rush hour time, and from the airport to corronado is a long ride also the colon so taxi fare from airport would be $100 or more , but you can head to the terminal to catch a bus , bus ride now is $3 and change stop misleading people, and it is best to always pull up your destination on your phone to show the taxi or bus if you don't speak Spanish, so the taxi knows exactly where you are going.
Hope this helps you out if and when coming to Panama! Let us know what is your favourite way to get around while travelling? Private car? Public transit? Rent a car? Let us know! 🚗 🚌 🚊

Happy to hear the videos have been helpful! Enjoy your Trip! 🙂
Thank you for putting this content together. Really helpful and useful information! 👍 Thank you!
You’re very welcome! 😀
Ouch, they really got you. I never take a taxi from any airport in the world. It's always way too expensive.
Yes, we definitely got taken! But lesson learned and I don't think we will ever be taking one again moving forward

Uber was great in Panama city. Safe and affordable
We found it was one of the more expensive options depending on where you're going. But that's great it worked for you! 🙂
I’m going Panama tomorrow. How all goes well as a English speaker
Ah you should be fine! Not everyone speaks English, but some do and good ol’ Google translate does wonders! 🙂🙌 Hope you enjoy your trip!

Oh we're glad it helped and hope you enjoy your time in Panama City! 🙂🙌
Will you guys be taking a trip to Costa Rica

We aren’t in Panama, or a transport service there, but you’ll be able to find ways around in many forms, as we cover in the video 🙂

Yeah, from our experience, it was pretty over priced. But there are options for sure
Why would you use Uber to the metro station? Take Metrobus E489 from Terminal 1 (middle blue sunshade location) to the Corredor Sur Metro Station.
We had not seen that! So thanks for sharing, but from our personal experience, the best bet or most budget friendly route, was Uber to that point
They have just inaugurated the station that goes to the airport itself
We’d heard! That’s great to hear, the options were pretty limited while we were there. Thanks for the update! 🙂🙌
