    Great video. There's surprisingly little information for mung bean in home gardens, so I've made many mistakes (and had a panic when my bean pod turned black! I had no idea that meant 'it's ready'). Most search results are for growing sprouts, or only show one part of the process, but this entire demonstration is extremely useful. I look forward to making dessert porridge from the rest of my harvest :)

      Thx for the info but how black should it actually be so I know cuz I was planning on growing them and harvesting them oh and how many times to water them?

    • @bmc9504
      @bmc9504 Рік тому +1

      Maybe it's because you were searching for bean sprouts and not mung bean :)

      @@bmc9504 No. When I Googled "how to grow mung plants" or the equivalent, the logarithm tried to be helpful by adding (more common) results about sprouting. I could search "-sprouts" (as in, minus sprouts) to try and fine tune the search, but since regular plants still sprout, doing so could filter out appropriate results. I hope that makes sense.

      1. Harvest when the entire pod is black, make sure to dry it before storing for any period of time, otherwise the seeds may actually start sprouting or rotting (i had one pod stuck in a vegetable net and i saw 6 seedlings sticking out of it, but more likely wet seed pots will rot)
      2. Water whenever your soil is dry, feel it if you cant visually tell. Dont listen to the strict watering regimens, your plants will always either need less or more water depending on all sorts of factors like climate, plant size and sunlight.

    Respect the food we eat it not easy to grow. We people just pay and get the grocery, drop grains while washing throwing the left over. is'nt that sad.
    My dad use to tell me story of his Vadiyar that mean's his school teacher he use to keep a bowl of water and a needle near his plate during his meal. If any rice grain dropped he would pick from that up with the help of needle rinse in the water and eat it. Respect food.

    what kind of climate is most perfect for mung bean growing? is it possible to grow them indoors at sub tropical climate? also do you use any fungicide to prevent mold growth?

      I thought at first these are the same as the red beans I got at tge asian grocery that I planted out in the garden. However, the red beans vined all over the place. Those too, turn brown when time to pick.
      They are in the same family as yard long/asparagus beans, so if yiu can grow those, you can grow mung.
      She was growing these in a greenhouse so they like warm temperatures.
      I live in FL.

      If sea water, sparingly. 1-2 times a year, and diluted with water. Use mulch and dig little rows of valleys, to collect, and to conserve on rain water loss. Use rain water catchment whenever you can. 😊🌎✨
