The house I grew up in had leaded glass windows on the front of the house. My brothers accidently threw a baseball at one of them and broke a few pieces. My dad had someone come out and restore it. He then had installed permanent storm windows on the outside to prevent them from being broken again. You might want to consider doing this to the stained glass and the other window as a preventive measure.
We had the windows in our church restored and the people who did it said that the "storm" windows that were added outside actually made the lead shrink and even decay and if they were installed with venting holes would have been ok. The new windows do not have protective glass or plastic outside.
I've seen a lot of old stain glass windows being repaired and then sandwiched between two panes of glass to protect it so no further damage can happen to it.
Posting here for you instead of in Sean's site. The wall between the entry hallway and the kitchen would be a wonderful location to show something of interest to you, and a passion for Sean. A wall- to- wall, floor to ceiling display of cookware, especially copper, would be such a wonderful homage to history, and your fantastic supporter in your endeavor. Perhaps something for you to think about. Thank you for continually reminding me why i want to spend my retirement years in Europe instead of the U.S.A. Dave.
I think you should do a separate donations pot just for the windows, to have one restored would be great but to have another one done too would be amazing and it would give people the chance to give to that specific job
You look like you haven’t slept for a week. Don’t get addicted to mothers ruin. You have so much going for you. The kitchen is coming along nicely. I can’t wait to see your vision come to fruition. Hope you feel more like yourself tomorrow. The stain glass window is worth saving. I’m sure the nuns would love that you are saving the convent. 😊
Oh Billy. The pain we inflict on ourselves is always the worst! Good you've had the stained glass looked at - it looks like an expensive but worthwhile project.
This is the highlight of my mornings. start this with my morning cuppa then head off to work feeling relaxed and happy. So thanks guys, we love the channel and appreciate the love and work you're all doing to restore these beautiful grand old building's.
I remember the day we viewers first saw this room and now just look at it! A kitchen is the heart of a home and I'm sure this one will be making lasting memories. Can hardly wait to see it completed! Good job everyone!
Once the stained glass window is fixed, I think you should consider adding a secondary double or even single glazed window on the outside (that can be opened from the outside for maintenance) as a protection, because I imagine that will help a lot with longevity and even with temperature inside the chapel.
That window is important to get fixed soon, as safty is an issue plus history. Good to see your team returning again with Rick, also Phil popping in is nice to see. Ducan certainly works hard as always but Sean is your 'right hand man'. Thank you for sharing. 💕🇦🇺
We got absolutely beautiful 3 stained Glass Windows restored in our Church & it was pretty expensive but we’re thrilled at the end result. They’re easily 100-200 years old so they’re a piece of history! Great to see you preserving that window as they’re so rare to come by & not replicatable! Good on you🙏🏻
My father was a city engineer in our hometown for, 38 yrs... There was a house built in 1800's that had to torn down (huge beautiful home) and, he was able to get in there and remove 2 huge half moon shape stained glass. This was in the late 70's and my sister had just got married so, he framed it put a back light on it and to this day, it's hanging in her house right where he hung it! It takes up a whole wall. She uses a a night light for whoever comes home late, instead of leave a lamp on. It's gorgeous!
For the other window you could ask for donations in order to create a new stained one. The windows in most of our local churches were bought by the families who belonged to the church. hey also had their names on little plaques in front of them.
Great idea! I was thinking about Phil & his aeration for the moat. They had a buy me a coffee or a go fund me, something set up Specific for that reason alone & you could go to see amounts & percentage of funds allocated.
Im a docent at 2nd Presbyterian Church in Chicago which has 12 memorial windows that size. Our foundation collects money to have them painstakingly restored, quite a project, but worth the effort in my opinion to see them on a sunny day in their full glory. Guess I should do a vlog sometime…😂 Take care, Billy🥹❤️
Our church has a huge stained glass windows and a rose window. They put protective glass cover on the outside of each to protect the original from damage by wind, hail, etc... It would be a good idea since that beautiful window is accessible at street level and even a rock kicked up can break the window.
That window is really beautiful. I think it's worth the effort to repair it. It would even be worth it to add another layer of stronger glass on the outside afterwards.
So what if you had a few drinks, you deserve it, you got a lot on your shoulders doing this convent and making videos, and editing plus being a family man toward your family
Mr B. Idea... Set up the Cup of Coffee program for the restoration of the window and the creation of the second window. That is something that all of us viewers can participate in. Just a thought. 😁
Great to know the stained glass window will be restored, it is beautiful. The kitchen reno is galloping along and I am excited to see the finished space. Crack on Billy🙏❤️
Billy, the blue "lift" as you've called it has been worth the money already ! Thanks to Steve, Sean, Duncan, for cracking on today. Lot's of progress. I love that your going to try to fix the stained glass window. It's all the history of this lovely "old" convent that is important. Even with the RUM giving you a hangover, you are (the man, Billy) Crack On.
On the stain glass window. It may of been donated too the convent by a rich patron. For the convent nuns taking in there daughter! Glad your going too restore it. Keep cracking in! Angel from Norfolk VA.
Too funny billy .. I feel your pain .. been there done that 😂.. love the outside view of the stained glass.. thanks to Phil .. love seeing you guys together.. cheers mate 🍻
Billy Billy Billy you have to hydrate my friend, drink a glass of water for every alcoholic beverage and no worries. Great progress by the team and dedication for editing for us.
Repair that broken glass w/ UV glue! When I have to restore a stained glass or antique foxed silver mirror panel and don't want to replace with new glass. As long as all the parts are big enough, I use UV glass glue and a UV lamp to cure it. This is the same as used to repair chips on windscreens. I don't know of any others doing this but our restoration shop has never had a callback on this type of repair. Best of all the repairs are nearly impossible to see when done. Best, Brian
Thanks for posting another video, Billy, even though you were not feeling your best. I agree it was helpful to see the stained glass window from the outside. The holes were much easier for us to see. Hope the cost to restore it is reasonable. Feel better and try not to be too hard on yourself for making a decision last night that you are regretting today. We all make mistakes. 🙃
In the US where we have multistory timber walls like the kitchen has. Under some conditions (that i am not clear about) we need to have a horizontal board to keep fire from going up between the studs. it also adds lots of jiggle prevention.
The window will be worth it to make it new again, so it will last forever. It's beautiful. I mailed off my little card for the time capsule. The post office said it should be in France in 10 days from today. I don't know how long it takes after that, to get to the convent, but I just wanted you to know it is on the way. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of the time capsule. My card is just a small thing that has my Great Great Great Grandmothers name in it. She was from France. She was born in the 1700's sometime. She married in America, but I have no other information about her. So this way, putting her name in your time capsule, brings her back there. I hope she likes that. She was Elizabeth Le Monion. I wish I had a photograph of her.
Something else to think about with your stained glass window is once the restoration is complete, is to add a panel of clear glass to the outside to protect the stained glass. Many churches do that here in the states. Not only does it protect the stained glass, but it also serves as a little insulation.
Billy, sounds like you had more of a “Hang around” than a hang over! Feel better. The work on the convent is amazing. Love all your videos. Cheers from Florida, USA 🍻
I had small stained glass windows in my last home. In some areas of the States (I'm in Ohio), when the craftsmen finished building the rich people's homes for the day, they would share their expertise on building each other's homes. This means that in our area, there are a number of more modest homes that have beveled leaded glass doors, windows, and stained glass windows (as well as other features) that normally only rich people could afford. Our previous home, as well as our current one, was one of those homes; in another city about 20 minutes from here, there is a professional stained glass shop where you can actually take lessons. We had gone in there once just to see what it was like, and the owner very kindly told us some tips for protecting our windows. First, when you clean them, NEVER use any sort of regular window cleaner; it's much too harsh and can damage the glass. Instead, use warm water, soft cloths, and a very gentle dish soap (like Dawn), rinse carefully, and wipe dry. Also, cover the outside of the window with clear safety glass; that'll protect it against environmental dirt and emissions, and vandals. That's such a lovely window you have, and I'm so glad you're looking into fixing it. Yes, you're right, that would've been a great extravagance for a convent; parishes would've used donations from their parishioners and fund raisers to pay for their stained glass windows. A convent of working nuns, vowed to poverty, would've had a much harder time of it. Another great video; Sean is certainly enjoying the warmth from the heat/air con units in the kitchen! That'll make the work go easier for him and everyone. Drink lots of water, and see you tomorrow, Billy. 😊
Yes.. many churches in the Midwest US (tornado alley) have coverage over the stained glass windows. Many of them were made by Tiffany and in some cases the glass is not available because the old ones contained lead.
Oh my goodness! The stained glass window that needs repair is so magnificent! So many pieces & glass that has design patterns in them! Beautiful! I enjoy a few small stained glass windows. They have such special qualities w/sun shining through them!
Drink lots of water and get out for a walk in the chateau woods, Billy. Being outside is the best hangover cure. It will be really interesting to see the stained glass renovation (hopefully you will be welcoming volunteers by then).
Billy don’t forget you need to be able to get the upright back out the door way, maybe get Shaun to make a temporary door way that opens wide enough, that’s another video you can make, I love your channel really good, I’m sure one day your views will go from k to millions, all the best to all of you.
you guys always make my day I have to say . Ryan your editing is superb . The MUSIC is always wow to me. I could listen to that all day . Billy you are cute and adorable !! Sean is one of the sweetest men ever and so kind . I subbed to all above . THANK YOU ALL . much love from Montreal Canada
Billy, sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. Stopping off to enjoy life once in a while is a beautiful thing. (Even though we pay LOL) The stained glass is beautiful, it is so worth the restoration, I can't wait for the next video, you always keep us guessing. Thanks.
Great progress from you and the team. If you can find the money, getting the window out, straightened, repaired and cleaned may well be worth it. We did that with a 2.5m high window in our Victorian-era house and the results were stunning. We also got a single glazed panel made up to go over the outside aspect. Much warmer and protects the stained glass from the elements.
The window restored will be a nice repair to your place. It might be a tad expensive, so just save up. 😀 The kitchen is coming along nicely. Thanks for sharing your day. 😀
A lot of churches in the UK have a 2nd glaze to protect the stained glass from damage, definitely worth it for the stained glass panel, might be for the plain one if your keen on keeping the old glass rather than reglazing after an issue.
I keep wanting to switch to the next few videos so I can see all the wall board up!! Why doesn't it work that way?!! Lol! Very excited to see the kitchen completed! Looks awesome already! 😊
In Canada some churches put a layer of plexiglass on the outside of the windows to protect them. With yours so close to the road, that might be something to consider.
Once the windows are repaired can you put a sheet of Plexiglass or some variation there of over it. The stained glass windows in the churches in the U.S, are covered here for protection.
Over indulging is always tough the day after. Nurse that hangover Billy and feel better soon. Exciting news today on the restoration of the stained glass window. I hope that it can be protected on the outside to help preserve it for the future. ❤🇫🇷
I loved seeing the window... my Pops did some stained glass work... and I'm sure that window will be lovely when they restore it. Will be well worth the expense to have have it done.
Be careful with the aircondition and the dust. I am a sound engineer and I used to work with an orchestra. Part of my job was to record each concert and afterwards edit out the coughs of the audience whenever possible. I started to notice that a particular theater (which was fairly new) had 10 times the amount of coughs than the rest of them. I asked the theater technicians and they said that while the theater was being build and still full of dust, someone turned on the new air conditioning system and to this day it is still contaminated with that dust.
Your channel makes my day every day🥰. You are so honest Billie. Hangover indeed🥴🥺. You are still ‘cracking on’ with your mates regardless, so no worries except for yourself! There is always something interesting going on with your massive convent rebuild. Thanks for letting us in to watch👏🏻❤️
Billy, when you do have the Chapel window restored will you be placing a cage in front of it to stop any - let's say - accidents from happening. I was desperately hoping the window would be away from the road but to see it so close to the pavement it makes it an easy target. I hope you have recovered from your hangover xx
Self inflicted ! Good for Sean. Anyway, you might want to consider putting up a ceiling fan in the kitchen to help circulate the heat as it might stratify at ceiling level, given the room height.
Billy is it possible, after the stain glasses piece is repaired to put a clear glass piece on each side of the stained glass window to further preserve it? I have seen in done in the U.S. in churches and other buildings to help preserve the stain glass windows. Looking at your window I don’t know if there is enough room to add a ‘protection’ window to each side. You and everyone a doing a wonderful job preserving a piece of history.
Billy, in a couple of days go back out and look at the stained glass again. There seems to be a shadow under it that is irregular as if the molding has been removed. Possibly that woiuld need to be restored as well. You could use the lift inside and outside to take detailed pictures of both. If the windows are taken down to repair...you would have 2. One for each side of the chapel. Perhaps they could back it outside with aa sheet of resin to protect it from injury...
Thanks to Phil for dragging us outside to see the window. It was much easier to see the pretty details of the window.
I had no idea that anyone could just wak up.. good point
@@ciaobella8963 totally agree
Billy, you need what is called, “ hair of the dog” too fix that hangover 😂
@@ciaobella8963Good idea 👍
Seeing it from only the inside, I never realized it's touchable height! Also clear view of the damage & less than straight framework.
Great idea
This is what was done to our church. It is a real comfort to have that protection of the storm window. Ours is all so a historic church.
We had the windows in our church restored and the people who did it said that the "storm" windows that were added outside actually made the lead shrink and even decay and if they were installed with venting holes would have been ok. The new windows do not have protective glass or plastic outside.
What a brilliant idea
Maybe plexiglas, so it won't break?
Watching all the adverts for you Billy so you get the money you need to restore the chapel stainglass!
I've seen a lot of old stain glass windows being repaired and then sandwiched between two panes of glass to protect it so no further damage can happen to it.
Shatterproof glass. Being so close to street level its surprising it has survived this long,.
Thats sounds like a great idea protection and insulation win win

The stained glass restoration is a perfect Kickstarter project imo. I would back it.

The ceiling in the kitchen is just WOW. Good job on that !
Oh Billy. The pain we inflict on ourselves is always the worst! Good you've had the stained glass looked at - it looks like an expensive but worthwhile project.
I think for the room, both windows will need to be stained glass for the room. That is even more expensive, but will definitely improve the room.
@@jonnymelamet8029 Wow, I bet that would be gorgeous!
I hope you recover quickly, Billy.
Sean and the guys are making good progress. It was nice seeing Phil again.

I asked the theater technicians and they said that while the theater was being build and still full of dust, someone turned on the new air conditioning system and to this day it is still contaminated with that dust.
Interesting
Sean is so talented.
Well that was a brilliant video, hangover or not. Love the stained glass window and the new door. ❤
You’ve always got something exciting up your sleeve, Billy !! 🥰🌼
Your channel makes my day every day🥰. You are so honest Billie. Hangover indeed🥴🥺. You are still ‘cracking on’ with your mates regardless, so no worries except for yourself! There is always something
interesting going on with your massive convent rebuild. Thanks for letting us in to watch👏🏻❤️
Beautiful window Billy
It’s a beautiful window! It’s going to look nice in its new home!
Billy, when you do have the Chapel window restored will you be placing a cage in front of it to stop any - let's say - accidents from happening. I was desperately hoping the window would be away from the road but to see it so close to the pavement it makes it an easy target.
I hope you have recovered from your hangover xx
So glad that you will be able to work in a comfortable environment. (Just in time for spring and open windows...)
Hope you recover soon
You have a great team there
Hahaha - had a glass and suddenly the bottle was empty… I do love the stained glass windows - hopefully they can fix it up nicely
Good to see Phil. Hope you make a nice recovery.
Billy, tylenol, lots of water for your hangover. Thank goodness I don't drink anymore.
I hope you have good news for the stained glass.
Ah, a rum man; an excellent tipple, sir. I bet you sleep especially well tonight. Great episode, as usual.
