    I was having no luck in getting my Energy setup to accept my Consumed Energy variable, after following your lead in this video exactly. Then, I realized that I wasn't recording any of the power/energy variables. Adding them to the Recorder fixed the problem. Thanks for the video.

    Thank you, I finally managed to got my energy dashboard working with on/off peak because of your video . 😎

    Thanks for the video! I’m in CA and we have off peak - mid peak - peak - mid peak (again) - off peak. And it changes based on Summer and Winter rates!! You explained it well enough, I think I was able to make the changes I needed.

    For my multi time tariff power (Peak, Shoulder and Offpeak M-F, and Shoulder and Offpeak on weekends) I was able to create a Helper Template that sets an entity to the current tariff. A change in this entity is then used as a trigger in a single automation that sets ALL of my power meters into the correct tariff.

    Thanks. This video helped me setup my ha and power adapters so I could see how much actual $$$ my homelab is costing me. :)

    Great video as always Chris. Quick question. I got a plug that monitors the energy usage for the freezer. Is there a way to also get cost of that usage? I got a template that gives me the total cost of the energy every hour. Here in Norway we got variable price pr hour.

    Useful video, thank you. I had a quick question - is there a way to stream data from Tesla solar panels. I have just the Tesla solar setup at home but dont have an electric car or battery backup. Tried looking around but didnt find a working solution

    I do not see the cost sensors for the individual tariffs in home assistant. However, the cost column is displayed in the energy dashboard by the ui. How do you get these cost sensirs to show up?

    Thanks for a great video! I have a question regarding some cards I see on your dashboard that you show 17 min into the video. There are some cards that are filled with color to a certain percentage. How do you do that?

    • @mostlychris
      @mostlychris  Рік тому

      I use the bignumber-card for those and set the severity to change colors at certain values.

    would this still work if you get a net reading from your meter? For example, I receive the total kwh from my meter into HA so I see like 27,273 and it just always increases.

    Have the same Aeotec energy clamps and a recent update broke my energy page. Do you have a github or code anywhere that shows how you made that sensor?

    amazing,; Works fine! thanks again!... there is a way to has a individual cost for items . like freezer, ac , hvac, etc? specially with variable rate of the energy

    • @mostlychris
      @mostlychris  Рік тому

      If you want to monitor individual circuits, grab an emporia and put it in your panel. Or you can use power monitoring plugs. All of those type things should show automatically in the energy dashboard if HA recognizes them as an energy device.

      @@mostlychris yes, thanks.. but im talking about cost managment more than consume. already install a few plug

    I am getting frustrated with the utility meter helper. I am using Emporia Vue and my service is SRP in Arizona and there are 6 different tariffs based on time and month. Peak and Off Peak rates change from winter to summer and then again for Summer Peak rates. Do I need to build 6 different Tariffs and 6 automations to switch out then add all of those helpers as sources in the dashboard? Thanks for any help. Youre right Tariffs are difficult.

    I am a bit late but I have a curly example for you. Here in the Solomon islands we have very expensive power $7.33SBD/kWh which is about $0.88USD/kWh where as in Australia I pay 0.23AUD/kWh which is $0.16USD/kWh. Like you we have a monthly stepped tariffs of off peak, shoulder and peak. Also it is very hot here and as an expat we love the air conditioners and have the running just about all day so it is very expensive to run. Lastly We have cash power which is prepaid electricity, so even though the tariff resets at the 1st day of the month, it really doesn't kick in until you purchase your first lot of cash power in the month and it means you could not start using your off peak until 10-15th of the month depending on how much power you had left over from the last month.
    My background is that I built utility billing systems for Electricity, water and gas companies that would bill 40-100k houses every night and this is doing my head in.
    I would like to be able to accurately determine the cost of the air conditioners but I do not know when my first kWh is going to be used. I think I am going to ignore this and reset at the beginning of the month.
    Ideas will be welcome.

    • @mostlychris
      @mostlychris  Рік тому

      You have a good challenge here. The hard part, as you mention, is figuring out the start of your billing. It sounds like it varies based on usage and how much cash power you purchase. I would be interested as well if anyone knows a good way to track this. Tariffs are the worst ever for consumers. Probably make lots of money for providers though.

    I had the Energy Dashboard working correctly until I updated HA from version 2023.2 to 2023.3.2, the graphics and information on Emergy stopped work, I no longer had electricity usage data and CO2 says "Consumed low-carbon energy couldn't be calculated", I already updated to the latest version of HA 2023.3.3 and everything is still the same, and the devices are working fine and with kWh information. Some help ?

    • @mostlychris

      I would add a template sensor and add that value as part of the math in the template.

    Hey Chris we got the same Aeotec energy meter ...mine throws weired numbers at times and it is a known issue how do you compensate for that? thank you

    • @mostlychris
      @mostlychris  Рік тому

      Well...just today (and once a couple of weeks ago) it did this exact thing. My kWh usage is 6 million now. Useless for this month as there is not a way, without modifying the database, to remove that erroneous value. Having praised that device in the video for its reliability, I now think I need to get the newer version and see if it suffers the same issue.

    How about base charges? Noticed you left out the connection cost of $9 out. Mine is closer to $30.

    • @mostlychris
      @mostlychris  Рік тому +1

      Didn't include it for simplicity as everyone is likely to have some sort of differing set of charges. The charge can be added as part of the template sensor.

  • @jmr
    @jmr Рік тому +1

    Sounds like you are on hillbilly peak demand. Me too but they figured out how to make mine more complicated. I don't even know what day my billing cycles will begin and end.

    hi! the last update 14.2
    change the way to use currency.. any idea?
    Unit of measurements CLP, CLP, CLP of input sensors sensor.power_comsuption_day_cost, sensor.power_comsuption_peak_cost, sensor.power_comsuption_night_cost are not compatible and can't be converted with the device class monetary of sensor group
    sensor.costo_diario_energia.
    Please correct the unit of measurements on the source entities and reload the group sensor to fix this issue.
    Warning - 2/7/2024

      My area is fairly inexpensive. There are probably more expensive areas of the US. Early on, we located datacenters here because of the cheap power.
