    Great video! Chris is reading my mind again. I was just thinking about something like this(as he said that time of year). I use text to speech notifications for important notifications. Severe weather would be a good one to use that for and it's simple to use.
    I got a confirmation the calendar offsets update is very likely to be in the June update. I'll be reworking some of my calendar integrations when that hits. As I mentioned before I think that would probably be a good time for an updated video since users that don't do yaml will be able to finally do all the cool things.

      You are correct. The offsets just showed up in the 2022.6 release. I hadn't thought about voice alerts. I need to parse that NWS alerts file and speak the alert. I can also speak the lightning is close by alert. More rabbit holes to go down.

    Great video, got my weather dashboard looking better than ever. Would love to see a followup on the templating of the weather alerts messages, templating is new to me. Thanks

      Thanks for the reminder. I've had enough Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories I should have already had enough opportunities to figure it out!

    It appears you live in the neck of the woods that I grew up in :) Miss that place sometimes. TY for the video, I just did a fresh install of HA and was looking for some new weather ideas so this ought to keep me busy for some time.

    I bought an Ecowitt weather station and gateway a few months ago after watching your videos. There is a lightning sensor (WH57) that you can add too which works great. I don't know what model your station is but the Ambient Weather WH31L might work for you.

      I thought about getting one of those. The 2 or 3 paragraph disclaimer kind of turned me off. So many things could cause false alerts or no alerts at all. I guess I could try one and see how it compares. It transmits on 900 mhz so I might just be able to grab the data regardless of the station I have. I have the WS-2902A.

    Hello Chris, can you provide some steps on creating the Lightning and WX Alert cards?

      Hey Sam. Those are custom button cards. I'll add that to my list of video requests.

    5:48 that's not a METAR code, that's an ICAO code. METAR code looks like this:
    EGLL 141450Z AUTO 08005KT 050V140 9999 NCD 31/08 Q1005 NOSIG
    and yes, i can read that code 🙂
    BTW, blitzortung is german for lightning (blitz) location (ortung). i had massive problems getting it to work. turns out it couldn't get through my firewall. but that's fixed now 🙂
    9:29 yes, it will climb. i set my time window to 20 minutes, and the counter kept increasing well beyond 20 minutes. it didn't come back down. even after an hour.

    Now I know why you didn't show us how to get a NWS API key. The government-written instructions are impossible to follow! The lightening map is cool, though. Thanks.

    • @mostlychris
      @mostlychris  2 роки тому

      They key was easy when I got one awhile back. While filming, I even used some bogus key and email and it worked. I don't know if that is valid or would eventually get flagged and blocked.

    • @Mrdsmith500
      @Mrdsmith500 2 роки тому

      Same here. Official NWS instructions show 3 steps. I followed them, but I got nothing back after entering the URL with the grid points it created when I entered it in HA. SDMA3 Daynight, unknown. No forecast, temps, nothing. States nothing about an email address either. I never had issues with "normal" API keys on anything else.

    The National Weather service page to get the API key isnt there ... Kinda lost there with NWS Help

    It seems that NWS has added some annoying text that breaks the radar card in the video. Do you have a work around? Thanks for all the amazing content.

    • @mostlychris
      @mostlychris  Рік тому

      How is it broken, other than the paragraph at the top? My renders ok, but with less radar real estate.

      @@mostlychris that’s what i mean by broke, it’s 20% of the space

      @@TheDiverJim I don't like that either. I'll have to look around for a replacement. I've heard people embedding windy.com but not sure if that is a similar replacement. I need to look.

    Can you do a short video on how you modify the channel notifications on Android? (or link a page showing how?)

      On your android phone - settings - Compagnion App - channels - notify... select your channel (see the video) - modify

      Hit me up on Discord. YT comments are not meant for code blocks and would mess it all up.

    The official English name for met.no is Norwegian Meteorological Institute, its pronounced very similar in Norwegian and English. So your try at pronouncing it at 6:50 was very very close, you were just missing one of the o's, which is also present in the English pronunciation. Americans living in Norway for half their life would happily pronounce it mee·tee·ur·uh·lo·gisk, basically the English pronunciation with the common Norwegian isk prefix instead
    of course if you are a remember the shape of the word reader, then it is obvious a slightly different spelling will require thinking to read properly
    Of course institute is pronounced
