    This set would be so effing awesome if it was in color.

    • @TaylorTalksComics
      @TaylorTalksComics  Рік тому +2

      I agree, that with the original colors, it would be awesome!
      But, the black and white is great too. You really get to see the line work of all of the great EC artists!

      I agree! These would have been wayyy better in color and would have sold more... but at the same time they would be way harder to find.

      @@TaylorTalksComics > You really get to see the line work of all of the great EC artists!< That's becoming kind of rote excuse for these. I'm not sure the "great line work" justifies a decision to cut production costs and avoid color. The EC Library was in black and white too, and it could easily have been in color, they did color for the MAD releases. The EC Archives are digital color so a totally different beast.

    • @TaylorTalksComics
      @TaylorTalksComics  Місяць тому

      @@ericmartin2778 coloring would be an exorbitant cost here. The original color files for these comics no longer exist. Which is why Dark Horse has recolored them with modern colors for their releases. So, Fantagraphics would likely have to do the same thing. Which would bump the price up of each of these books to around $50 each - retail.
      But, it’s not an excuse. Seeing the original line work of these artists is a tremendous thing. The EC bullpen had some of the greatest comics illustrators in history.

    Daaaaamn. I'm so jealous. I read Corpse on the Imjin from the library and loved it. I wasn't super familiar with Kurtzman's work outside Mad, and it was beautiful and moving. Great collection. I really want to get Wood's Spawn of Mars but am pretty open to all genres, so after that not sure what to pursue next.

    • @TaylorTalksComics
      @TaylorTalksComics  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! This took a few years to curate! If you loved that volume of Kurtzman war stories I would recommend “Came the Dawn.” More war stories written and laid out by Kurtzman, but this time drawn by the great Jack Davis.
      Wally Wood’s “Spawn of Mars” would be my top recommendation for Sci fi from this collection. And for crime I’d recommend Johnny Craig’s “The Woman Who Loved Life.” Happy hunting! And let me know what you think!

      Thank you so much for watching! And no.. Bernie didn’t start his career until after EC comics. He was certainly a fan and influenced by EC though! And Wrightson did go on to do work for Warren publications “Creepy” and “Eerie” magazines, which were influenced by EC comics in their own right!
