The restricted control inlet is an Control Orifice we used to design a lot of storm water control manholes. Some would have a wall between the inlet and outlet pipe with an oriface in the wall,and the wall ( weir wall)would be a certain height ( like the high water elevation) If the concrete guys made the mistake and built it wrong, send it back.

How they make water detain? Is it by making the outlet pipe size smaller than what is actually required.? Where that water is going out from the basin,is it to the roadside ditch?
Maybe I have this all wrong, but you have a 24" outflow pipe running into a what 8' pipe under the driveway, or is the water supposed to flow away from the driveway pipe in the other direction? I know that's your building to city specs.
It’s a 16” pipe under that road I asked the engineer about at that and he didn’t have much of an answer lol. I think in two years they are planning to widen that road and put in storm drains so this thing will be pointless. Thanks again for watching

It’s 345’ of 24” pipe, with a 5’x5’ precast concrete catch basin and then gravel around the pipe, digging with excavator and using a skid steer to backfill the trench and backfilling a big hole he dug. Would you mind giving me a rough estimate of what you would charge on it? He chose me but said my bid was higher than the other guys and I don’t believe it because I’m always cheaper than everybody. We do drainage full time, but haven’t ever done this specific job type before

I’m curious why you take the bucket off to lift the pipe. Also, you can tell that machine ain’t a rental. So gentle. I’m pretty smooth but I also like to hit stuff with the bucket. Except trench boxes. I hate when guys beat on a trench box instead of just taking some dirt out or rocking it down corner by corner.
Ohhh boy! Was it bypassing a pressure relief on that backhoe or do the cylinders just leak that much past? Seems like it just let itself down lol. Little booboos happen, probably not a big deal. Awesome video! Thanks for sharing!
I think it’s just the cylinders I think that backhoe has 12,000-14,000 hours on it. It’s definitely not in its prime any more 🤣 Appreciate you watching buddy

Personally, I would have changed that design to stick a 6" Schedule 40 PVC pipe into the inlet far enough to allow a cap to be screwed on the inside and tee off on the outside. Drill the holes into the cap inside the inlet, place a tee on the outside with 2' sections going in each direction and capped on the ends. Drill that pipe with multiple 3/8" holes and cover with clean 1/2" - 3/4" gravel. Then I would have had the overflow weir above this low flow. All of this would have been on the front of the structure and not the sides.
After reviewing and approving stormwater management plans for the County over 32 years, our group usually found out the hard way what worked and what didn't. It got to the point where often times the engineers were coming to me at the beginning asking for advice. The perforated PVC protection works. It is also easy to install and maintain 👌
I see what you meant about the box being built wrong. Fortunately the engineer swallowed his pride and let you work through it!!! Those boxes are built hell for stout. Aren’t they? I am not sure why they would pick such p.i.a location if this is the kind of town council they have to deal with all the time. You seemed to have a perfectly good retention pond prior to this before you began this phase 2 project, if I remember back it seemed to be working just fine. Kudos to your patience though. I would be the same way but when I got home the blender is going to be running a lot of margaritas every evening :^)
I guess not was really brought up until after the fact he started building. And the reason for redoing it now is there were two separate engineering firms working on this project because it’s on the line of two towns. The one that signed off on the first pond made the other company mad over this project and a few others so it pretty much turned into a huge pissing contest and this firm wants the last laugh. Supposedly this is how the second firm always wanted it I just never got these prints. So now that the first firm is out of the picture these guys got their wish at the owners expense. A lot of bs if you ask me. Lol thank and yes plenty of margaritas 😁

When the city or whoever required this pond to be built drew up the plans, did they come out and do a site survey and shoot elevations, etc or did they just draw it up and tell you to make it work? Sometimes I wonder what the engineers are thinking when they come up with those plans. We had one at a local fire station that was on a huge lot. The detention pond was in the front yard and was a huge eye sore while the vast majority of the property was behind the building and sloped away from the detention pond. Im standing there looking at the plans wondering what "genius" designed the system and never made any sense of it. Oh well, what do I know, I just get paid to move the dirt. You did good work on this one.

It runs into the basin and there is a plate with two 1/2” holes in it where the water flows in then goes to the ditch out front

FYI: The low flow with the two small holes is the orifice (or in this case, orifices). The larger cut out is the overflow weir.
