While seeing your old videos is a source for a good chuckle, it shows not only your progress on UA-cam but your progress as a company as well. When we stop learning and improving we stop being better. Keep up the great work!
My goals with the videos greatly changed too. The early ones were a place I could direct callers to see my work, so they were not a priority. When I realized people were actually watching and learning from my stuff I knew I had to respond by increasing the quality. I really don’t know much about making videos and it was a steep learning curve for me.
Well said
Has anyone thanked your employees? I give them a 👍 Thank You boys for working so hard and taking pride in your work 😊.
Yes! I thank them all the time!
I was wondering when he was gonna post lol. Excellent video as usual.
I have been slow with the holidays and all. I'm trying to get back into production.
My dad had open heart surgery today. This is the kind of video I needed to unwind on an incredibly stressful day.
Thank you Gate City from Perth, Australia 🇦🇺
Yeah I've gone back and watched everything and now I eagerly wait.
@@GCFD how much does something like that cost?
I love the new driveway! Looks so much better and the water control worked really well!
Thank you! We were pretty happy with how things turned out too. No more speed bump at the road anymore.
Brother. Your patience to be able to do the jobs film them and then wait for the rain footage to post them is absolutely mind blowing. Keep up the great work. Awesome vid
Your attention to detail is good ,the channel drain looks like a good solution ,what I see other out fits do with a heavy concrete truck is use old ply wood laid down in the driveway keeps it from rutting it out .
I knew we would be in there fixing the approach so we fixed the ruts and compacted. It's a trade off between using the buggy to move the concrete or get the truck in there and then fix the ruts.
I work for a asphalt company here in Missouri. Just an idea for you, we have smooth buckets and have slide on teeth for them that we use heavy duty bolts to mount to the buckets.
I almost always prefer tooth buckets!
Glad to see you back with another great video highlighting you and your company’s great work
Thank you Mike! More on in the works
I’m certainly glad to have found your channel as I must access a flooding issue in my back and side yards.
This video touched on a no-go for me. My number one rule for myself is to never by a house sitting at the bottom of the driveway. The house is on the other side of the street would be my preference. As alway, great video!
That's a great rule. I always head downhill to new clients.
Best video and job yet Shawn! Always love watching a finished system working in the rain.
What I like is that all your guys look engaged and happy to be at work. Even in the background when they aren't aware of being filmed. Concrete crew too. That's good for your business and the customer. This job is looking efficient and clean. Not my aesthetic choice but each customer is different.
The blowing fog looks cool on the sped-up parts. 🙂
I think so too! I like those shots.
Nice job! Two questions why no rebar and why no felt/brown board between the house and concrete?
Rebar is not typically used in our climate for non structural. I have seen it in tear-outs maybe five times in the last seven years. The expansion is the same..some use it but most don't.
Thank you for not running the plate compactor over the dirt before seed. I hate when people do that because it leads to the grass raising the level of the dirt over the concrete. It makes me insane.
The grass will rise as the basic process of soil formation over time.
@@GCFD agreed so why come at it from too high to begin with! People compact the soil to exactly the height of the concrete then wonder why it's 2 inches high the next year and having drainage issues. No compaction should ever be used in the top 4-10 inches of soil.
I work in concrete I was taught no pad bigger then 10ft some say every 12ft. But my rule of thumb is every 10 feet joint and try to joint off corners. Only thing I would say is I feel like the whole middle of that driveway needed a joint. The middle one put on the bottom of the apron should’ve went all the way through it’s likely a crack will chase off that and go up the whole driveway in years to come
Excellent teamwork ✔️
These are my favorite videos! Great Work!
What a transformation!
we save all the old concrete to put down as a base then rebar on stand,s then 6" of new over the top higher than the road by the way ace job on the drain,s
Sounds like you have freezing temps and bentonite in your area!
Crazy that there is no rebar for concrete but if that’s how it’s done in that area came out awesome.
It took name forever to get used to no rebar being used in this area.
Tremendous outcome!
Great work. 👍 It’ll be interesting to know why the front gutter is overflowing (debris?).
I would guess it's clogged like you said. Easy fix.
Shawn, and to all the guys and gals on the crew WTG great job 👍
Nice mono pour with the step Sean you guys this team is awesome
Just curious, why wouldn't y'all put a control joint down the middle of the driveway?
Very nice job
Also could you do a video explaining why concrete instead of pavers. Easier pipe repair and inspection with pavers. Surely. Pros and cons please.
Great job Shawn and your team; an interesting video of how to do things right.
I saw your aerial, that WHOLE house should have been raised about 2 feet and the yard built up to slope away, with drainage thought out well in advance.
Very nice work you and your men,👍👍👍👍🇬🇧Manchester uk 🇬🇧
Thank you Thomas!
Happy New Year Shawn to you and both crews. Man, it amazes me how satisfying the work you guys do gives me great pleasure. Always fun
Thank you Allan! Happy new year!
nice work but a littel rebar maybe?
I presume you suggested another downspout near the front door, and the customer demurred.
I would have liked a ground level shot of the hump in the driveway concrete near the road. It's a bit difficult to see, when it isn't raining.
Nice to see a video of yours again.
Everything else looks fantastic. We'll done.
New subscriber here in Michigan. Love the consciousness of all y’all’s work ethic. Really enjoyed the content. Wish you much success. We’ll keep watching, liking, subscribing, and commenting to help.
sheets of plywood for the truck to roll on, keep it from tearing up that nice bed ya made.
Great work guys..
Thank you!
Another quality project Shawn. It is amazing how quickly you company has grown including your cool, time saving equipment armada and video production. Quality work and customer service has not changed with your success. 👍 What is the rationale for use of foundational wire with concrete, just a preference ? It obviously is not always required. When I see the outfall volume, I always say to myself, “ where did all that water go before” ?
The wire is not needed in our climate for non structural concrete. But in other areas with freezing temps and less stable subsoils you need it. Where I lived in colorado you couldn’t use enough wire!
Looks like you need a full size dump truck. No wire mesh or rebar?
The problem with a full size dump is I'm the only one on my crew with a CDL and I don't want to be married to driving. No rebar needed in our area (stable subsoils).
did they get the gutter over the door sorted? great job / your work guys are great
I would love to see how they recycle concrete. Please try to obtain video on recycling concrete for your viewers. Blue Sky's.
They run it through a crusher....
Very Nice job!
Thank you Jasper!
Great video
Good job Shaun 👍
The concrete work had to be very demanding and it turned out great. My only question is why you did not use any rebar?
Rebar is not required with our warm climate and stable subsoils.
Seem like that pipe under the concrete would make the concrete on top of the pipe much weaker. Hope the car doesn't flex that pipe too much.. I'm sure it's thicker than it appears on video though
@jeepinass haha I hope not but maybe.
I would have loved to see the amount of water coming out if the gutters weren't clogged.
I'm sure it would be more water for sure. I think they have gotten them cleaned out by now...
Didn’t see any markings for the utilities in the ground?
Nope! Since the house is on a corner, everything was coming in from the other road. 👍👍
What is down here in cape Breton Canada the same that is going on there
Why the big pipes under the gutter, there should be somethin out there that wont make it look so big an weird, love the way u comunicate with the owners first
I seem to like @VictoryOutdoorServices finish work better, however, your guys are WAY more mindful of the initial pour. They watch the slope really well! Though, that might be your influence on them. ;)
Yes it might be my influence! This was a very very tricky pour so I was trying to stay on top of things.
Has this driveway turned to gravel yet? Why no mesh or rebar in the drive way? That’s insane
Mesh and rebar are not needed in our area with our mild climate and stable subsoils. From your comment, I'll be your area has a frost line, subsurface water, and possibly bentonite?
What grade of slope are you aiming for from the car port cement edge to the New channel drain location? Are you using a Level with a bubble or a numeric value?
Gotta ask, where is the reinforcement in the concrete? Seems like it got skipped altogether.
Great work. This is exactly the same kind of work I want done for my driveway. You have associates in Bergen County, NJ?
At 32:34 that would be a low slump, I know what you meant but when ordering or talking to concrete pros a low slump means it sag less distance in inches when tested. High slump sags more so wetter concrete is higher slump.
@jeepinass I think he knows slump but it was just said backwards. I bet compared to many of the contractors around he is at the top of the pile. As far as rebar, their area doesn't see as much freeze/thaw. He could certainly go 6 inches thick, haunches edges, rebar at 12" but that would price him out of work and be unnecessary for the service life of that work.
@@jeepinass that would certainly make a good 100 year driveway but we don’t know what the customer bought. Everything has a price. I oversee work in Boston, the sidewalk are 4” and never get rebar, city spec. They last long enough till they get torn up the next time. Driveways for trucks are min 6” with mesh or bar and amended sub grade. But we see far worse freeze thaw. I’m sure Shawn doesn’t sign a contract with a whole spec section but if the contractor and customer agree on the method and the price then that’s a sound agreement. I don’t think this work will fall apart in 2 years by any means haha!
Hey Shawn, What make and model is your orange dump truck and trailer, and do you need a CDL for that setup? Thanks!
Another great video Shawn. You surround yourself with good people and you all do a great job. I'm constantly looking out for your videos. Your channel is one of my main go to channels. I always like to see the end product when you revisit in the rain, it proves you are good at what you do. Thanks 👍
Thank you Roy! I have a bunch more videos in the works.
I was concerned to see the driveway channel drain and the separate pipes picking up the roof gutter water just go into a ‘Y’ junction point that was the same diameter. The second pipe should have gone all the way to the road pit.
At the end of the video showing the pipe in the road pit, hardly any water was coming out. I know the gutters were over flowing into the path channel drain so the flow should have been better. The old drain that all the pipes connected into may be partly blocked.
“Proceed with caution” 🤣👍🏻
I still can't get used to seeing concrete poured on basically sand, with no rebar or wire mesh.
It took m forever too Eric. It just seems wrong, but that’s how they do it around here. Rebar is not even on anyone’s radar and it blows the profit margin when we find it in a tear out. It’s only happened a couple times though.
Edit: it’s sand rock which is mined around here and is not sand! Sandrock is angular and makes a stable base. Sand is not angular and shifts around.
@Gate City Foundation Drainage I completely understand. Coming from the Midwest and then living in California has shown me a lot of hard-core strength building construction. Great video as always!
No rebar or steal mesh for driveway ????
Nope. Reinforcement is not typically used for nonstructural concrete in our climate with our subsoils. I do see rebar in tear outs maybe once every couple years.
wow, she could've run a remote-control fan-boat on that yard. cue the Flipper theme song!
Hi ! Can you recommend someone who can do the quality job you do in Rockland County New York Area?
Drive way should have had wire mesh.
Mesh is not needed in our area with our climate and subsoils. Maybe 1 in 100 driveways I tear out has mesh, so I have seen it a few times.
why no aggregate or rebar ?
NONONONO, WHERE ARE YOUR POWER BUGGIES
Haha the buggy was parked at the street but they wanted to use the barrow instead.
Nice Job. What do you fill the expansion joints with?
Why do you not put a fresh felt where the new pour meets the old concrete road?
There's an endless debate on if that is needed or not...
@@GCFD Maybe your weather doesn't get that cold for that long. Idk.. ; )
Yyeessss absolutely love these long videos. But uuhhmmmm🤔🤔 why is there zero rebar in the driveway. The walkway I can understand but zero on the driveway 🤔🤔🤔🤷🤷
It’s not needed with our climate and subsoils. I know that’s shocking to people living on other subsoils. My first properties were in Denver colorado where you can’t use too much rebar and things still crack l. I couldn’t believe no rebar is used here.
@@GCFD I think you might consider putting text on the screen during the pour "Rebar is not needed in our climate and subsoil." Then again, the question does generate more viewer engagement!
did that claw came with those big eyes or did you add some cosmetic stickers to it? 😁😁
I know this when you did the concrete you never installed any rebar or any wire mesh to give the concrete strength how come
We have very stable subsoils around here so the causes of concrete cracking are not prevalent in our area.
No mesh?
No. Not needed in our climate and subsoils.
Is a psi 3000 concrete good for a back yard slab and a sidewalk?or I need at fibra at the concrete?
Can you not get the concrete dust or concrete off the red brick by garage doors? That looks bad. She needs some cover over front porch and gutter work.
That spider is both awesome and not awesome. 😬
An origin story?
When you stuck your head into the storm drain I was half expecting Pennywise to grab hold of you and to drag you in. !! 🤡🤡
AND WHY WOULD YOU SET UP THE DRAIN CLEAN OUTS IN THE MIDDLE LIKE THAT YOU COULD HAVE PUT THEM ON A ANGEL TO THE FENCE SO THE CLEAN OUTS ARE OUT OF THE WAY. . WAS THIS YOUR FIRST JOB
Unsurprisingly, yet another great job!
Hey, there you are…..
Haha this was a big project to edit!
So that slab of concrete is hanging on some plastic pipes? Without reinforcement?
Great video
Thank you Andrew!
Great job! I speak Spanish bro and your workers say some funny stuff throughout the video lol had me laughing lol 😂🤣
Yea I had to run this by a spanish speaking friend to make sure it was age-appropriate. Usually they're talking about the job and these guys don't really talk trash.
Of all the videos ive watched... Hows come you never use rebar on concrete jobs ? Care to explain? Cause i would like to know why beings is im your northern neighbor as we have to use rebar on concrete jobs like this.
Hi Sean. I noticed it in the driveway and sidewalk that there was no rebar or steel wire used to reinforce the concrete and just wondering is that something that’s not needed in your area? I am certainly not critiquing your work. I think you do a great job and go above and beyond. I was just wondering. Thanks for the video.
Yes it should have weld mesh put it, otherwise it’s just a sub-standard job!.
Many driveways are fiber reinforced concrete 4 to 5 inches thick.
We don’t know the psi rating of the concrete.
Some guys do not use rebar unless it is subject to heavy vehicle traffic.
The UPS truck will not hurt it .. but … a ten wheeler loaded .?.. rut-roh 🐕
Just caught up on your videos was hoping you would post again, great work
Thank you John!
Love that you come back when its raining to check on your work. Great Job!
Thank you Jarrod!
You guys really knocked it out of the park on this job!!! Very very good job!!
Thank you! They’ve been very happy with the extra space and no speed bump at the road.
My main question is how on earth do homeowners afford to have this kind of work done!?
LOANS!! Or Federal. income tax return if you get a large amount.
What a great outcome! Sean, I owe you big time for educating me on how to get rid of the backyard lake I found after moving into my house last winter. 400 ft. of schedule 40 pvc, a sump pump, and lots of french drain, and not even a puddle has shown up this winter! You inspired me to film it all too: ua-cam.com/video/bdZB_H3Ud1U/v-deo.html.
Awesome video and project Josiah! Your video skills are very good!
@@GCFD thank you Sean! That means a lot. Now I just wish I had more drainage projects to do/film! I’ll still keep watching all of yours.
Sorry, you have a lot of people saying good job, but it’s because they don’t know better. That’s pretty ugly concrete, and because you didn’t put in all the control joints it will last maybe a year before the first crack.
Finally! Something to watch!
Hahah I hope you enjoy this one Bill.
Nice job 👍 I was wondering why you didn’t use rebar for the concrete driveway?
We always pour our driveways 1.5 inches higher than pavement. That helps for water and future asphalt
That is crazy flooding, does she live in the middle of a lake ? Wow that must be the worst type of flooding we have seen you deal with. Definitely going to be fun watching this video.
This was a very tough job for my third system (besides my own houses), but we solved it!
Had you already been working in drainage prior to 2019 for a company? Or was it a total career change?
Ben I had done some drainage work for my houses and my HVAC friend was so impressed with my results he told me I needed to do drainage work. I was working as a biology professor at a local community college.
@@GCFD Wow! quite the change!
I always looks at the quality of concrete compared to todays quality. How much poorer the concrete is today. That old concrete looks just looks solid.
Great job! I love the larger entry way. Very sweet house with better curb appeal! Happy New Year Shawn!
Thank you Leslie! Happy 2023!
