I was down the front for this. Some guy next to me had his girlfriend with him, she was screaming at him for them to move back. This was during the intro tape, Slayer hadn’t even hit the stage yet. There is nothing like a Slayer gig.

I was 19 years old when I was at this show. I swear the ground was literally shaking! Slayer were a force of nature. Paul Bostaph's first show, I believe? He was unbelievable.
Yeah, I gutted on the day to find out Dave Lombardo had quit but wow did Bostaph smash it. Superb.
I can only imagine how powerful the sound was.

I was there too. I was 17 and came with 4 Friends all the Way from Germany. For me the best Moshpit ever. Intense, loud, fair, Metal. Everybody went to the ground... 28 Years ago and it is in my mind like 3 Months ago.

this was the first time I heard Slayer,I taped it off the radio cos the radio 1 dj said they were the heaviest band on the planet. Still my favourite band of all time
Back when metal was in the key of e and sounded evil, not like now where everything is tuned that low you couldn't hear a mistake.

@@SKONJIE Are you deaf? Paul is loud and accurate here and at every show he’s ever played. Lombardo is awesome too don’t get me wrong, I mean he helped write these two tunes but he’s nowhere near as punchy and tight as Bostaph.
Paul has declined in recent years, dave invented the fast double kick

Hell Awaits, truly one of their best songs. Hell Awaits was my first album I bought from them, it blew me away, and I thought I at that time Metallica was the loudest, heaviest and fastest, I was wrong :p
The Antichrist is also one of my favorites of this awesome band! 🤘
Why all the slayer gigs from the 80's and 90's sounds so much better quality-wise than all their recent live performance... i dont get it... they should keep that sound forever!

@@chadmarx7718 This was Paul at his very best and he did great in the early 90s but he was never on Dave's level. I say this as a drummer of 24 years experience.
Some changes in equipment, sound techs and personal preference over the years. Metallica did the same thing and they don't sound as good either.

Yep - there was a phrase that I'd heard used about old acid rock bands like Blue Cheer , that they "turned the air to cheese". Well when slayer kicked off that day that's what happened, the air seemed to go thick and time slowed down. Just awesome, a real rush.
Just a great atmosphere in the pit that day, last day I experienced it, blokes who picked you up if you went down and knew what they were doing.
Thanks to the poster and well done for mixing the radio broadcast to the video.

I was there still remember it no band as heavy as Slayer had played Donington
1:35 - 2:05 cool, evil, bad ass, heavy and catchy riff all in one... I just can't think of other riffs from any other band like that.
