I was out there and saw you out there! Said I loved the vids as we passed by. It was my first time halibut fishing and hooked up on a 34 inch for my first ever halibut around 3:30 and then I hooked up on a 28 and a half. My friend also hooked up on one as well so three in the boat for my first time and two for me.
Great video, Chris! Nice presentation on catching smelt as well as the patience needed to catch halibut. Some of my best halibut fishing has been done with smelt, which stay lively much longer than anchovies. Also, you demonstrate the “big bait, big fish” motto very, very well! Thanks!
Thanks for the video dude! Nice to see a report when I can’t make it up there. Fishing there used to be very fruitful, but has gotten tougher over the years. Striper started showing back up tho. Keep up the videos!
Go Chris Go! I can’t imagine having to fish for my bait first! Lmbo. It’s tough stopping at Walmart to get worms for me… lol. Hugs from Aunt Tere in Kentucky 💞 give Alice and the kids a hug from me.
No smelt is to big but its relative to the size of the halibut or striper. A 20" halibut or striper would eat a 10" smelt. A 10" halibut or striper would not eat a 10" smelt. Maybe try having the weight at the bottom of your line and a hook some place between 2-4 ft above it.
More great vids Chris, one thing you could check, once u have a salmon on the boat you can fish for ground fish but you need to use barbless hooks and if you use bait on the hook the hooks need to be circle…
There's been a few times fishing for bait and tamales catching little baits willing them in then catching hell a bit never got them in because we use such a lot line but it happens more than often
Chris, I think that fish that broke your line was most likely a halibut. When I lived in So Cal. me and my brother went out and while fishing for bait my brother hooked something huge he finally got it to the surface and where we got a look at it and it was a halibut about 35”. We were fishing off a boat dock and I didn’t have a net. It ended up breaking the 4 lb test he was using.
Hey Chris - is it tough to get to the Ocean from Nick's or Lawson's landing? Have you ever launched at Lawson's? I'm trying to plan a combo salmon halibut trip and the Google Earth pic shows a lot of white water going around Tomales point. Love your videos by the way.
I live in East bay, let me know if you ever need a fishing buddy, I’ll bring the food, hold a go pro if need be and help you get some more halibut in the boat
Did you launch at Tamales or Bodega? Is trolling inefficient in those waters? Would drifting anchovies work better there than smelt if you had them? I think most prefer an incoming tide when fishing for halibut in SF bay…why do you like an outgoing tide at Tamales? Lastly, like you I enjoy having company when fishing in my boat and I totally agree with you that fishing solo can be fun too…freedom to do what you want and to go where and when you want without approval, tacit or otherwise. I can always live with decisions I make on the water…not always the case with guests.
Nice Fish Chris!!! I remember watching your first video in Tomales Bay, hoping to catch one there myself this year. Do you fish the south end of the bay?
Hey Chris, I was just out at Tomales for the first time crabbing and was planning on trying to catch a halibut in between pulls. We ended up not Halibut fishing becuase we were pretty busy with our nets and couldn't find a good spot to catch Smelt. What part of Tomales do you typically find the smelt? Closer to the mouth, near Hog Island? Appreciate any pointers you can provide. Thanks!
If ya ever want to make the drive north to Humboldt county and experience another great Cali hali fishery let me know. Bring your boat or I have a 16 foot tracker bass boat I fish the bay with
At what foot tide is it okay to launch your boat? I watch the tide charts and it moves from -.07 to 6. Is it okay to launch at say 2 foot tide? or what is the lowest you can launch before getting stuck?
boat size matters. if your at 1 foot with an incoming tide you can most likely get in. 2ft you will have no problem unless you have a monster. hope that helps, thanks for watching
Hey man. Can u recommend a charter boat for a few guys to do something similar to what your doing?? Like half moon bay or San Francisco bay trip. Even a delta trip?? Thanks man really like the content
@@ChrisPfish2 hopefully not Much longer. It’s going to cool off again this week! Seems like spring is taking its sweet time. Hopefully by the end of the month!
Another Great video. I'm getting closer to getting out there myself. I've been wanting go but i'm still being a big wimp lol. I've never had my boat in the bay, not sure where to launch or what routes to follow (as far as depths and running aground etc). It looks calm enough for sure. Anyway, thanks for the confidence booster. Like, if you can do it so can we or I. haha.
Dude, take me out with you for my first Butt ever!!! I live in Santa Rosa and will pay for gas, bait ect...Down to hit it during the week/any day!!! Double edit, I'm also a solid first mate and know how to fish, can net fish, and can rig my own shit!

Nice fish, you are a pro, by yourself, you bring it in and gaff it, nice.
one of the best fisherman that puts out great videos to help the community. Thanks
Tomales bay is a nice area. Interesting, seeing it from the water, I've only driven by.
Thanks for the video dude! Nice to see a report when I can’t make it up there. Fishing there used to be very fruitful, but has gotten tougher over the years. Striper started showing back up tho. Keep up the videos!
bro, now you are smiling a lot more and looking super positive! Your subs will start to increase exponentially. keep it up!
Great catch Chris!!! Nice dancing...lol
Those r the best trips . Cold drink in ur hand and thinking of life! Lol. Nice halibut
Nice job. Way to make it challenging!
Way to go bro. Nice halibut. Love your videos, lots of good info. Tight lines.
Thanks for watching!
Looks nice an relaxing and little wind compared to SF Bay. Persistence paid off. Nice fish.
Great adventure Chris! Keep em coming.
Bro! That one hand gaff game is tight!
The bait you caught were nice, also! Nice hali!

Good content again Chris thanks bro ,
Been waiting for an episode 🤝
Cool thanks buddy for sharing
Great stuff, I’ve learned a ton! I’ve got to try the bobber sabiki up here on Humboldt Bay.
How big of a smelt is too big for striped bass and halibut? And how can you fish live bait from shore

I went on a charter out to sf bar and we did really good biggest one was a 42 inch halibut
Where do you launch your boat when you go out to tomales bay?
There's only 1 boat launch. Miller boat launch. If u have a fiberglass boat watch the tides the water can get pretty low.
Ok, awesome, thank you for the info. Fish on 🎣

Never apologize. You are living the Dream 💭

Another great video 👍🏻
Did he retrieve his bobber ?
Nice! Do you use any baits on the sabiki to catch the baitfish??
I could even set you up with a hobie kayak if ya wanted. Plenty of other fishing as well
Whats the point of 3 way swivel on top if weight can be clipped to bottom clip of pitbulls rig?
Nice, excellent job👍

Hi Chris, Nice Catch 👍🏼 , You’re allowed to use four rods at the same time there at TB? Thank you and Stay safe.

fish for smelt around the eel grass. They like to be in by the protection.
Glad you hooked up… 👍

I learned the hard way when i was young not to use to light line fishing i had a salmon attack my sabiki while reeling in 3 anchovies

Go on the lovely Martha out of sf, they the best. But this is their last week of halibut, salmon coming up
Bodega Bay to Tomales Bay, I prefer fishing in July, August, and September.
I think catching bait is better than buying bait because smelt work better than anchovies in my opinion
I peed a little when he admitted he had a 4 incher...lol
What’s up Chris. How do I contact you about sponsorship

Nice Hali Chris! Didn’t want to drop a crab pot while your at it?
I tried this today but no luck on the halibut ☹️
Thanks for the report. I am waiting a few more weeks for that spot. What was water temp?
@@ChrisPfish2 it was 55-56
@@iReelyFish Thanks for that info. Warm enough for a bite, at 58 it should be a go!

Tie another rope to the front of the sea anchor........Makes pulling it in reel easy.
Inside Tomales is considered ocean? Multi rod
it is believe or not
